I absolutely love this concept. This topic was something I’ve been curious about, and the author broke it down in such an accessible way. I appreciate the history and research put into it, while also breaking it down into steps, discussing alternatives for the “what if” questions about using this method.

I have recently been getting into non-fiction novels, and I am so happy I started with this one! Such a great and important novel about how the internet has changed our lives, and how sometime away from it can benefit us so much. As a Jewish person, I loved the tid bits about Jewish history and how Judaism has impacted Tiffany's life.

Facts and personal anecdotes keep you interested in addressing your tech time and the value and challenges experienced. Benefits of devoting 'time-off' in a Shabbat are well presented for the general public (not only the religious). I found that this book helped me quieten down and consider a slower life much more effectively than many others.
Valuable references are given in a historical timeline that appreciates the changes within our own lifetimes. A book worth having on your shelf to refer to.
The irony of reading this book on-line was not missed, but if I had this book in hard copy it would have been covered in sticky notes to go back to and consider more deeply.

24/6 by Tiffany Shlain is by far one of the best books I have read in a while. Her topic is important to all of us in the Western world, and Shlain has a couple of messages that I firmly believe all of us need to hear. Even though I fully support her different messages throughout the book, I love that she did not bring it across as a 'must do', but more of a "this really works well for me and it might be something for you too". Keep in mind: she actually loves technology and believes all we need is a more balanced on and off life. She does an excellent job with explaining why a break from screens, and thus a change in lifestyle, is so important by using factual and researched data. Shlain knows what she is talking about and that becomes very clear throughout her book. The other thing that I much enjoyed was that she did a great job of placing this topic of always being on and being online in the bigger picture: what does this mean for the way we communicate with others around us, how will a newborn be effected by our love for screens, what is happening on the scientific side of our brains with this new technology following us everywhere we go, etc. Shlain links a lot of our humans skills (creativity, connectedness, empathy) and even tools (enjoying silence, forest bathing, meditation) to the impact of technology on our lives and how/why we need to rethink our way of working with them. She makes you think on a higher level, without pushing you to do so. She writes in such a natural way that it is easy to follow her flow and even shut the book at certain times to sit still and think about the questions she poses. There is no other way but to give 24/6 by Shlain 5/5 stars. Amazing work! Highly recommended to EVERYONE (but especially to those who keep saying: oh I don't need less time on a screen, because we all know they do the most).
