Lots of food for thought in this book. I've seen many of these films, but others I am going to have to go in search of to see for myself! I enjoyed reading the many essays and reviews of the movies.I don.t think anyone ever out grows any film, so maybe after a read of these, it might be fun to go revisit the films! Insightful.
A sprawling and varied collection of essays that are kind of about children's movies (as the title suggests), but that are really more about the formative movies the various contributors saw as children--whether they were intended for young audiences or not. Cinephiles will enjoy reminiscing with the authors about their own first moviegoing experiences. Some essays are fairly academic, others more like memoir. There's a little something for everyone, and it will probably inspire you to go back and rewatch the first movie you remember seeing.
I enjoyed reading the different essays that analyzed children's movies from past into present - I found it engaging, and I enjoyed reading about some films I love, and discovering others that I did not know of, or did not know as much about. I certainly had my favorite parts of this book, but I do think it was well put together on the whole.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rowman & Littlefield for the chance to read this book!
