Wow, it has been a while since I read a book this quickly. Once I picked it up I didn't want to put it down. I found it fascinating how the author decided to focus her story around social media. She included an author's note explaining how she happened upon it. I also just put a sticker on the webcam of my kindle! I enjoyed the social media aspects of this book and it was interesting how this influencer merged her life with her brand. The characters were somewhat stereotypical, but I wanted to keep reading about them. It was also predictable, but that did not detract from the story. I really liked the switching of perspectives and getting into the heads of three of the characters. The ending was a little underwhelming, but the rest of the book made up for that for me. I would recommend this book to anyone who like suspense books.
I thought that this book was really good! I have had a digital copy of this book for quite a while but hadn't picked it up yet for some reason. Recently, I came across the book again while browsing my library's collection of audiobooks and decided that it was time to give it a try. I am so glad that I finally got around to reading this book! I was hooked by the story right away and it kept me guessing until the very end.
Everybody loves Audrey. She has hundreds of thousands of followers online and is often recognized. She is hired by a museum in Washington DC to handle the social media for a new exhibit. She moves to a new city where her old boyfriend and friend from college currently live so she's not alone. Audrey has lost friends due to her oversharing online and it was eye-opening to see just what went into her carefully created image.
We see this story from three points of view. We see things from Audrey's perspective and also from her friend Cat's point of view. Cat is much more serious than Audrey and sometimes resents Audrey's constant need to be out doing something fun. The third narrator is the man stalking Audrey. We see different aspects of this man's life and get to know how he sees Audrey but his identity kept me guessing until the very end.
I thought that this book was really exciting. I had absolutely no idea who Audrey's stalker until the author wanted me to know. There were several characters that I suspected but I just couldn't pin it down. I was also very interested in the relationship between Cat and Audrey. Cat seemed to fluctuate between admiring Audrey and being annoyed by her attitude. I loved how many layered this story was and I found it really hard to quit thinking about even when I wasn't reading it.
I thought that the narrating team of Corey Brill, Erin Moon, and Emily Tremaine did a fantastic job with this story. I really felt like each narrator was able to bring their character to life. I like that they used three different narrators to perform this book since it made the shift between perspectives flow easily. I thought that all of the narrators had a very pleasant voice that was easy to listen to for hours at a time.
I would recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a very well done thriller that kept me guessing and felt relevant in today's social media-obsessed world. I wouldn't hesitate to read more of this author's work in the future.
I received a digital review copy of this book from Gallery, Pocket Books via NetGalley and borrowed a copy of the audiobook from my local library.
Audrey has over a million followers on Instagram where her life is like an open book .which also invites a stalker in her life. When she gets a job opportunity of a lifetime she's ready to make a move from New York City to Washington DC but there is no way that the stalker will let this little move stop him .
Told by three Pov’s Audrey , her friend Cat, and the stalker ‘Him’ Follow Me is an interesting dark creepy thriller with a few nice twists and turns
I would like to thank Gallery, Pocket Books & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

Fascinating read! Lots of layers and interesting ideas to think about. Likable but far from perfect characters.
I was really in the mood for a compelling psychological suspense book, and this one intrigued me because of the social media aspect. Especially now that we are all in stay at home mode and turning to social media even more than ever to stay connected.
I don’t have a lot that I can say about this one. I enjoyed the book, but I didn’t find it as compelling as I had hoped it would be. The “on the edge of your seat” feeling I was hoping for never happened. It did make me think about my social media footprint. For some people, it might be a wake-up call not to over-share. Some other reviewers have found it to be more compelling than I did. I would recommend it as a decent story about social media if someone is looking for something like that to read.
Thank you to Negalley and the publisher for a copy to review.
My Rating: 3 Stars
This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
The big challenge with modern thrillers is having characters that you care about without wasting too much time before you get to the action. Follow Me balances believable characters with great backstories with the creepiest stalker action you can imagine. I would definitely say that this one is heavier on the psychological thriller side, where just like Audrey, you are looking over your shoulder and reevaluating your social media presence along the way. There are several perfect red herrings throughout the story, some which are believable and some which are perhaps all in your head.
I'm giving this 3.5 stars as I hate that thrillers these days don't end with the perfect macabre ending... which this story totally had, I was so thrilled. And then it carefully tip toed away from that into the perfect millennial wrap-up. So it was so close to being a perfect thriller for me but in the end it lands in the better than average category.
.
This book was a little predictable, but it definitely has me thinking twice about posting anything even remotely personal on social media. I've been so fascinated by this topic lately, with all the recent documentaries and books revolving around it. I was also super disturbed to learn about internet "slaves". Overall it was a pretty fascinating precautionary tale. Now, excuse me while I go scrub all my accounts!😳
This review is regarding Follow Me by Kathleen Barber, published on February 25, 2020. Yes, I would recommend this title through Readers’ Advisory, book clubs, events, etc. My library has purchased copies of this book, including eBook and eAudiobooks.
I read Follow Me so quickly because it was hard to put down. It is so suspenseful, and you never know what is coming next! The characters are all very flawed with serious hang-ups, yet as you're reading, you can't help but wonder if you are like any of them. Do you obsessively follow anyone on social media? Do you constantly post photos of yourself, your food, your clothes? Do you even think twice about sharing where you are at any given moment? Are you so insecure that you think if you don't drop everything when the friend you've pinned your identity to needs you for fear they'll NOT need you anymore? I could go on and on, but as you read Follow Me, you'll soon see the flaws in the others.
Follow Me took me on a crazy, wild ride with so many twists and turns it's a wonder I didn't get motion sickness. As I read, I really kept changing my mind about who the stalker was. Though I suspected the correct character several times, I really hoped that it was not that person. That's the only reason I gave it 4 /4.5 stars.
If you are a fan of You and you love thrillers, you will love reading Follow Me. I definitely recommend it! (Just don't get too attached to anyone LOL.)
The plot was bonkers and I'll absolutely watch the tv series. If I didn't love You by Caroline Kepnes so much, I probably would've enjoyed this a lot more without that gold standard of comparison.
Major "You" vibes with this book, and I mean that in the best way possible! I kept thinking I had this book figured out and it kept surprising me. Audrey was a great main character - just likeable AND hate-able enough for me to stay interested! I was fascinated by the other characters too, and it made for a good time figuring out who was stalking Audrey. Don't read this if you're home alone!
I loved Barber’s first novel but this missed the mark. The characters were all self-absorbed and horrible. The suspense was good, but I didn’t actually care about the people who were in danger. It’s a fast read about social media stalking, but not super memorable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Social media stalker thrillers are the new buzzy thing this year, and I am soaking up every single one! Kathleen Barber’s Follow Me is actually even better than her last book which got tons of great feedback and became an AppleTV+ series, Truth Be Told (aka You Are Sleeping). Twisty, salacious, and um-put-down-able!
What is it about stalker fiction that is so compelling? I was thinking about that in the wake of reading (and loving) Follow Me. It isn’t so different from why so many of us become fans of social media influencers. Sure, we might occasionally ridicule their over-the-top lives in ours heads, but for the most part I think it is natural to craft a story around what these people are sharing, and to feel as though we know them on a more personal level. Particularly when they post about things we are interested in, it can be hard not to covet their lives, and to think we know them better than we do.
In Follow Me, Audrey’s Instagram fame is contrasted with her actual life. I loved the way Barber juxtaposes the way Audrey sets up an Instagram-worthy picture and the messy reality of her life. For instance, she might stage a perfect table and flowers, but just off the edge of the frame, she has been living out of boxes rather than unpack. She might post about her amazing job, but then behind it worry about her creepy neighbor entering her apartment uninvited.
Audrey is a character we shouldn’t like. It would be easy to call her fake or superficial (and in fact, some do). But seeing Audrey’s messy side, and the parts of herself that are so far from perfect they are almost shocking compared to her public posts, it humanizes her.
When Audrey accepts a position at the Smithsonian, she moves to the DC area and accepts an apartment sight unseen. And while she tries to prove herself promoting a new true-crime miniatures exhibit at work, she has a number of characters circling her life who may be involved with some of the creepy goings on in her life. Or is it possible it is one of her thousands of followers?
In addition to Audrey’s perspective, we get some chapters narrated by her close friend from college, Cat, who is living in DC and becomes her support system when everything begins, and mysterious chapters from the villain “him”. I love getting to hear from the villain! I had so many theories about who I thought it might be—such a fun guessing game!
A thrilling read that will definitely have you rethinking your use of social media!
Thank you to Gallery Books for my copy. Opinions are my own.
I loved Barber's first book and the corresponding show so I was excited to read this one. It definitely kept me guessing and up late reading - I didn't expect where the story went!
Audrey Miller has jut started a new job at the Smithsonian as a social media manager.. thanks to her own 1 million plus followers on Instagram, where she puts her entire life out there.
She only knows two people ... an ex-boyfriend that she is still attracted to and a college friend, Cat, who lives a very private life.
Audrey, unbeknownst to her, has a stalker... one that has followed her for many years. Now that she is within reach, he wants to make Audrey his ... and his alone. He will do whatever he must to make this obsession come true.
Stories like these should make everyone think twice before putting their life in any online social media outlet. This was well written, with 3 voices .. Audrey, Cat and "Him". I can't say I liked either of the ladies. Audrey came across as narcissistic, while Cat was a little on the needy side. Suspense is maintained throughout with measured pacing. Many and varied subjects keep you riveted and playing the "guess who" game.
Many thanks to the author / Gallery Books - Pocket Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Psychological Thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Follow Me

“Everyone wants new followers…until they follow you home.”
Reading this thriller is everything I wanted to creep me out! Realistic and totally intense.
What if someone was obsessed with you and is able to watch everything you are doing by remotely accessing your device to watch your every move? So believable it's totally mind blowing.
Told in multiple POVs, the story moves fast paced with each chapters just giving you enough to keep your fingers turning those pages. This was quite the read and I highly recommend.
Thanks to the Internet—and to social media—nothing is private anymore. Our lives are no longer just our own. They’re shared with our friends…and their friends…and anyone in the world who cares to take a look. And in Kathleen Barber’s eerie thriller Follow Me, one woman’s online following could prove dangerous.

To me , the scariest and creepiest books are the ones where you are able to imagine it happening to you. I was so scared to take a shower 🚿 after reading #psycho. Every time I closed my shower curtain I imagined Norman Bates, and well, you know the scene.
Back to this book,
Follow me is about an #instagrammer , a stalker, and things not being what they appear to be. What a great combination.
I immediately got #YOU vibes with FM and really enjoyed the excerpts from the chapters titled “HIM”. If “HIM” reminded you of “JOE”, let me know in the comments.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to finish. An ending that you can’t miss!
