Much like "You" this book follows the perspective of the stalker. It also follows the perspectives of Audrey and Cat. Unfortunately, the characters in this book were just boring stereotypes with no personalities. Like a lot of thrillers I've read recently, it got repetitive and boring very early on. The stalker in this book was way too whiny in my opinion and his chapters were the hardest to get through for me. Though the other characters weren't much better. I read the authors previous book "Are You Sleeping" and I didn't like that one either, I think her writing just isn't for me.
Audrey overshares her life on social media and then is stalked by a follower who feels it is fate they are connected. I was constantly guessing who the culprit was until the end and really enjoyed how this book played out!
Audrey enjoys the attention she gets from her many admirers. They follow her through instagram. Most of them give feedback to her stream of instagrams. She tells her admirers she leaving New York to go to Washington D.C. for her dream job. She will be a social media manager. She impresses her new boss and reconnects with a socially awkward girlfriend from college, Cat. Audrey doesn’t like her dark basement apartment or the creepy neighbor. She meets a guy who becomes a friend at the trivia games. As time passes, she becomes aware of a stalker. When she goes back to her apartment, she finds someone has “torn.it up.” She calls the police but is really scared. She has no idea who her stalker is. Who is he? Will she find out? Will she be okay?
It’s a fast-paced novel with interesting characters and unsettling events. It made me aware of the dangers of social media and the internet. It is a suspenseful thriller.
this was well-written and really engaging, but ended up being pretty predictable. Audrey was super unlikeable but she was meant to be and I honestly liked that aspect of it! I thought it definitely could have ended a little better and on a creepier note. overall, I enjoyed it but it wasn't my fave.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Gallery Books, and Kathleen Barber for the opportunity to read her sophomore book - great read! I was a huge fan of her debut - Are You Sleeping? - which was turned into a gripping TV miniseries entitled, Truth Be Told. Be sure to check them both out!
Barber used a very timely subject for this thriller - social media and stalking. Our subject, Audrey Miller, seems to have it all. She just got her dream job as social media manager for a museum in Washington DC, leaving her life in NYC behind. She's also a big social media influencer, with over a million followers on Instagram. But someone has been watching Audrey for a long time and is ramping up the stalking. Audrey's best friend from college, Cat, also lives in DC, working as an attorney putting in long hours to try and move up in her firm. Audrey's presence makes it hard for Cat to focus on her job the way she always did.
Enough said - hopefully you aren't living alone in a basement apartment while reading this book because there is plenty of creep factor to make you scared!
This thriller was a quick read. It was certainly timely, dealing with the contemporary issue of how much people should share online and the potential of stalkers, particularly when intentionally setting out to be a social media influencer.
Although this book was entertaining, I also found it to be a bit slow moving because the set up took a long time and I wanted to see if I was correct about who the stalker was. Once the twist and reveal occur, the conclusion felt rushed and unsatisfying.
I believe that many readers will enjoy this book. I enjoyed it, and I think that a lot of readers will enjoy it even more than I did.
This thriller was fast paced and kept me turning the pages. I really enjoyed the reality of something like this happening with how we use social media in this day & age. I found the characters to be believable and not overly dramatic.
This book was chilling. I am really glad I didn't read this at night while alone.
This story is about Audrey Miller a woman obsessed with putting her whole life on Instagram, Doing so leads her into danger.
The story was told in three different perspectives. This aspect of the book I enjoyed. It was a fast paced read with good character development. The story was engaging and has made me think twice about what I share on social media.
As an Instagram Influencer, Audrey has a following of a million people, she also has a stalker. Someone that knows everything about her. Someone that is totally obsessed with her. When Audrey moves to DC for a new job opportunity, he knows it’s fate as he, too, lives in DC. He decides to take it to the next level, he does love her after all. This book has enough red herrings that you might need a net! There’s a chance you might figure out who her stalker is, but it’s doubtful you’ll figure out how it will ultimately end. After reading this book, I may never post anything on social media again!!
If I had to sum this book up with just one word, I've have to go with Clever!
-Clever use of showing how one person's obsession with being 'liked' can lead to a multitude of problems
-Clever use of showing how what we see on social media and what the truth really is are completely different
-Clever use of keeping the plot fresh and unique with offering 3 POV's that totally kept me off kilter
-Clever ending that didn't so much as surprise me but left me feeling satisfied.
A bit creepy and fun, this one will keep you turning those pages!

Stalker stories are forever going to be compared to You and if I'm going to do any comparison, I'd say this is a bit like You on a diet - You Light, if you will. Told in three different POVs, we get to follow this story through Aubrey, Cat and 'His' eyes. Aubrey is a huge social media influencer and a character I loved to hate. She is so shallow and it seems everyone falls immediately in smitten with her, which I found fascinating as she lacks depth. Cat is annoying with her constant paranoia and continuous low self esteem. It was painful at times to be inside her head... and yet I found her the most fascinating of all the characters. And... I always love being inside the head of the villain - it just gives that added oomph to a story.
Social media, with all its perks, is also absolutely terrifying. The opening author's note sent chills down my spine and I love how she got the idea for this book. I just wish I got those same chills as I read this crazy ass story. Believe you me, I am now putting little stickers over the cameras of all my things and side eyeing anything and everything around me. It's a weird feeling to think that you're probably being filmed in some capacity at all times. To think that someone out there may or may not be watching your every move... **shiver** and that people in the dark places of the web may be selling you like a slave.. UGH GOD WHY IS THIS IS REAL THING?!
I binge read this one on my flight yesterday and it's an absolute insane story that will suck you right in. Will it stop you from using social media? Probably not. Will it make you more wary of your surroundings and what you may or may not put out there? Maybe for a few days... *wink* but it definitely will make your skin crawl in the realness of it all. The only thing that I didn't care for was the ending. WHAT - I appreciated the crazy but the epilogue ... no. Sorry, it didn't sit well with me but I'm zipping the lip because no spoilers here.
A cautionary tale about sharing too much- and knowing when following has turned into dangerous stalking. Audrey is in a good place- she's got a new job at the Smithsonian, she's reunited with her friend Cat, and she's an influencer. Unfortunately, she's also got a stalker. Told from the POVs of Audrey, Cat, and "Him," this never gets as crazy as it could but it's still creepy. Audrey isn't as sentient as she should be, both about her surroundings and about her impact on others (notably Cat, let alone the stalker.). No spoilers but know that there are several options for that one! Thanks to net galley for the ARC. Nicely plotted and written, this is a page turner.
I feel like books about stalkers are a thing right now, but I totally understand why. We’re sharing every second of our lives on social media and sometimes we don’t even realize how dangerous it could be. Posting Instagram stories everywhere we go and tagging the location; it all became part of our lives.
Audrey has the “perfect” life - she’s beautiful, she has a million followers on Instagram, she posts amazing pictures, and people adore her. When she moves to Washington D.C., she contacts an old sorority friend that she hasn’t seen in years. Cat is successful and she is the opposite of Audrey. She’s not good looking, she takes life too seriously, and she’s not into social media. Nonetheless, she loves Audrey; maybe a little too much... Audrey also contacts her old boyfriend who adores her and is always there for her.
The chapters switch between Audrey, Cat, and “Him.” We know that “Him” is a person who’s obsessed with Audrey, following her around, and imagining a future when he finally gets to have her all to himself. The author did an amazing job on keeping it a mystery. I confess I had an idea of who “Him” was but I wasn’t positive. I really liked the way that the author revealed his identity.
This book really hooked me - not only because I wanted to know who Audrey’s stalker was but also because of Cat. She has a weird past and I really wanted to know what happened years ago. And the ending was not what I expected at all. It was insane and I could not put the book down. Prepare your emotions for the last chapters of the story.
This book is creepy in a real-life kind of way. I highly recommend it if you’re into thrillers and especially if you liked You.
Kathleen Barber returns with a gripping suspense story about Audrey, a popular Instagram influencer who's being harassed by a stalker. Told from varying perspectives, this creepy thriller will keep you reading late into the night - and make you think twice about what you're sharing in today's social media-driven age.
Follow Me by Kathleen Barber brings home the dangers of social media and of the attention-seekers, wannabes, and unstable people who rely on it for various reasons. In this wild ride of a read, young women and men seeking validation through a virtual world discover real life consequences, some of a very unbalanced and dangerous kind!
You know that creepy feeling that someone is watching you? You might be right about that...
Readers, this is a page-turner with a high creepiness factor. 3.5 stars from me.
Think about what you post...
My thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Being a social media influencer is Audrey’s way of life. Everything about her can be found online. Never before has she worried about all the things people know about her.
Finding a dream job that uses her skills moves her to DC where she reconnects with some college friends. Soon though, having all her information online causes trouble and someone is following her. With a large cast of characters with multiple issues it became unclear who the stalker was. As soon as I thought I had it figured out, the author surprised me with the reveal. I’m hoping the ending is preparing us for a sequel.
For me this was one of those books that just hooked me from the beginning and didn’t let go. It was an easy read that I just wanted to devour.
Audrey lives her life in the social media spotlight, sharing all the details of her day to day. After moving to DC for a job she soon attracts the attention of someone that is a bit more than a fan.
The book is told from three different POVs-Audrey (with her million Instagram followers and fancy museum job), Cat (Audrey’s awkward friend since college, lawyer, and also a resident of DC) and of HIM (our devoted fan of Audrey)
This was my first novel by Barber but not my last. Well written and all consuming-will recommend to all my friends.
What happens when a young lady who has, through constant posting and tireless effort, gains over a million followers on social media, but gets one who follows just a little too closely? We see fandom turn to obsession. In Kathleen Barber's novel Follow Me, Aubrey posts all about her social life and has become a well-known social media influencer. She lands her dream job in D.C., which works out great for one of her online admirers, who couldn't be more pleased that she is moving to his town.
Throughout Follow Me Aubrey's tension builds as the creepy men around her and the creeping online stalker seem to start colliding. There's the handsy coworker who she initially trusted and liked. There's the landlady's creepy son, who lets himself into Aubrey's apartment. There's Nick, the super cool college boyfriend with whom she rekindles a friendship (with benefits). There's the creepy guy who hangs out at the museum where Aubrey works. With the creeping she experiences online, will she be able to find a normal boyfriend?
At first, I thought, "Well, this is going to be predictable and a bit dull." Of course Barber knows better than that. My predictions were wrong, and she took the story in a direction I didn't expect. She accomplished her goal: to keep me eagerly reading to the end. There were things I didn't love about the book. Aubrey makes some dumb decisions. One of the key relational connections was just a little too coincidental. Some of the characters were just a little too cardboard cutout. However, Barber makes up for it with the tension she builds and the way she brings it all around. This is a good beach read or a keep-you-up-all-night-on-a-Saturday-night read.

I am reviewing a copy of Follow Me through Gallery, Pocket Books and Netgalley:
I would recommend this book to readers sixteen and older due to rough language, and subject matters.
Be careful what you share with your followers, be careful what you post.
Everyone wants more followers, until they follow you home
Audrey Miller has a new job at the Smithsonian that many envy. A body by reformer Pilates, the apartment door with a lock that has been broken, and hundreds of thousands of Instagram Followers who are there to bear witness to it all. Audrey who has just moved tinWashington D.C, Audrey busies herself with trying to impress her new boss, interacting with her ever growing online fan base, and staving of a creepy upstairs neighbors with the help of the two people she knows in town, the ex boyfriend she can’t stay away from, and one of her Sorority sisters, with a high powered job and a mysterious past.
The faulty door at Audrey’s place is the least of her security worries. Without her knowing it her move had brought her perilously close to someone who had been stalking her social media profiles for years from her first blog on Wordpress to her most recent Instagram story. The man is no longer satisfied with stalking her online, so he searches the dark web to find out how he can make Audrey’s his and only his.
I give Follow Me four out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
I devoured this cautionary tale about over sharing in the digital world. It was such a quick and fast paced read that will keep you guessing until literally the very last paragraph. Told from multiple perspectives, we follow Audrey as some really interesting things start to unfold in her life as well as her friend Cat, and "Him". Reading his chapters left me gutted with goosebumps and overall icky feeling. I finished this book around midnight and could not sleep after. I resisted the urge to walk around and put stickers over every camera in my home and throw out my Alexa.
