I am always drawn in by the details and level of characterization in these books. Salvatore is a master storyteller who weaves fantastic tales of lore that last through the ages. This one is no different as the characters battle the age old quest of good versus evil.
Brilliant end to this trilogy! Salvatore never disappoints!
I loved the detailed continuation of the world building from the first two books. Where the first book set to introduce characters/scenes in vivid details, book 3 just bangs out the action scenes and concluding battles.
If you're into worldbuilding, magic systems, and character development - if you want it all - then just take it all with this epic end of the saga!
The story seemed like fairly generic fantasy to me. If you liked the earlier books in the series, you'll probably like this one.
R. A. Salvatore always writes really good books, and this book was no different. I really enjoyed reading this, the plot was good and the characters were great..
This is the final book in the Coven saga and whilst it can be read as a standalone reading the previous books would be a benefit .
The Usgars dominate not just the mountain region but also the lakes and surrounding villages - their brutal attacks and kidnappings shape the lives of all he live there
However not all Usgars are so brutal , the female protagonist Aoleyn is the heart and soul of this series .- it's not just her compassion but her expertise with the gem magics that paves the way to success.
With dangerous discoveries made by warrior monks , Brother Thaddius and Sister Elysant , whilst exploring the Southern Wilderlands settting a cascading series of cataclysmic events into motion - it leads to an ultimate showdown between mortals and gods
This is book and series with a difference - originality ! with great worldbuilding and characters you become invested in .
The blend of mythologies , fantasy elements , magical gemstones, dragons, shape-shifting, elves, and knights
make for an enthralling read - the Author at his best .
I was given an arc of this book by NetGalley and the Publisher in exchange for an honest review
Oof. What a freaking book.
I discovered a new favorite series after having read the first book, The originality of this series is astounding, I already miss this world and the character, its like nothing I’ve ever read before.
This book made me cry more than anything I’ve ever read in all my life, at the same time it made me laugh and fall in love with the characters. I love that the responsibility of saving the world was not just one person’s responsibility but everyone helped in their own way.
The world building is just ecstatic and I love it, I felt like I was part of the world whilst reading this series, I have a clear picture of Fireach Speuer and the other towns in my head.
I don’t even have words to describe the character development, damn that is what I call a work of art.
Aoelyn, she made her way to the top and became my favorite female protagonist, Aoelyn grew and changed from the scared paranoid girl we met in the first book to this confident woman, She is not arrogant nor selfish and I adore that part of her. She loves her people a lot and her relationships with them always makes me smile like an idiot.
There are some fantasy series you read and you know that the author is just sorta making it all up as he goes along. Later in the series stuff from earlier books starts to fall apart and holes in prior world building become a little obvious. I never feel that way in a Salvatore book. I always feel like he had every part of the magic system and world building figured out before he ever started the first book. Everything came full circle and the (ending?) was emotional, as I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to many of the characters in this.
I loved the first two books of this trilogy. The ending was a bit of a let down. I enjoyed the sections with Aoelyn but the rest was a bit dull.
I did enjoy this book. I liked the links to previous stories and characters. I thought that the development of the main characters flowed reasonably well. Perhaps I am a little behind on RA Salvatore's books, but I would have liked a little more information up front about the culture of the main antagonists to help me understand some of the motives. Overall, 4/5 stars for an entertaining story with potential for some spin off characters in the future.
I loved this book! I love this whole series but this one was just so good! It was nice to be back in this world R.A. Salvatore has created and to see more of some of my favorite characters. The plot and story arc of this book as well as the whole series continuously sucks me in and I fly through them. This one was no exception! 5/5 stars!
R.A. Salvatore has been one of my favorite authors since I read Demon Wars series YEARS ago. This series does not disappoint. Set in the same world as Demon Wars, this series has captured my imagination. How this author world builds amazes me.
This is the last installment in this series- It does not disappoint. It's filled with all the imagery and action I've come to expect from Salvatore. He remains one of my favorite authors.
5/5 Stars for Corona.
***I received a copy of this novel from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review***
An excellent ending to an excellent series.
The characters and the world building are as amazing as usual and I found it an engrossing and entertaining read.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
This is the third and final installment in R.A. Salvatore's Coven trilogy. The Xoconai empire, led by Tzatzini, have declared war on the humans that are west of the mountains. Only a few people stand in the way including Aoelyn and Talmadge. Far away, an ancient tomb is uncovered that may help them win the war.
I thought the last book of the this trilogy was very good and enjoyed the action.
Will have to read the other books in the series to get the full story.
This concluding installment of The Coven saga of secular versus religious zealotry works as a stand-alone and begins with dangerous discoveries made by warrior monks Brother Thaddius [sic] and Sister Elysant. What they unearth while exploring the Southern Wilderlands sets a cascading series of cataclysmic events into motion, leading to an ultimate showdown between mortals and gods. A prologue and three parts lay out separate story threads about powerful witch Aoleyn, exiled King Aydrian, imprisoned Egard, and assorted groups of refugees, priests, politicians, and warriors with conflicting motives, ethical quandaries, and agendas. Incorporating an engagingly distinct blend of ancient mythologies, and SciFi and fantasy elements like magical gemstones, dragons, shape-shifting, elves, and knights, Song of the Risen God is reminiscent of Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and it’s somewhat biblical in the scope of its ideas. It also evokes shades of a sinister, truly powerful Wizard of Oz.
Threads about annihilation and manifest destiny are woven among recurring themes of menacing interpretations of the gold standard of expectations from false gods and their empty promises. The narrative pacing is brisk, especially in the immersive hand-to-hand combat scenes and massive battle sequences. Believable characterizations, meaningful dialogue, strong world building, and noticeable organic inclusion of women as powerful authority figures and respected leaders make this saga a memorable read. Sometimes muddled and abrupt transitions between scenes and points of view barely distract from this story’s many strengths. Heroic people who are working together for the greatest good for all despite the daunting odds against their success anchors Song of the Risen God.
Loved it. It was just as fun as the first two and I would happily re-read the series! I really enjoyed the way things wrapped up and that little cliff hanger at the end.
A perfect ending to this action packed trilogy. If you have been following my blog, you know how the first two books went. But I’ll sum up anyway just in case!
This story centers around a very brutal and savage mountain tribe called the Usgar. The Usgar dominate not just the mountain but the surrounding lake villages full of a people that suffer their attacks and kidnappings. The Usgar refer to these skull-shaping captives as the Uamhas, and honestly, their treatment of them could be so bad at times I had a hard time reading it.
However, not all Usgar are bad, especially the female protagonist Aoleyn. She is the heart and soul of this series. In each book, it is her compassion that ultimately wins, not just her expertise with the magic gems. But the magic helps! The magic system in this series is really interesting. It’s based on finding the song within different gems to create unique and God-like powers.
Aoleyn is a fighter. She is a tough young lady, and her heart is in the right place and always leads her true. The first book ends with her battle against the Demon Fossa, and the sequel left me hanging for a minute with the introduction and domination of a new Empire led by the God Scathmizzane.
I was really worried while reading Song of the Risen God about how all of this could be wrapped up. There are more introductions to new characters, primarily from the far away Honce-the-Bear lands and their major cities. I found the ending to be very fitting for this series. I wont say anything to give it away, but I was impressed with how Salvatore wrapped everything up.
This was another wild ride! One thing though, be sure to read the epilogue! This whole series was a unique look at detailed cultures set in a land that teems with magic. I think that is what I enjoyed most. The whole story is great, even if a little harsh at times, but the creation of these belief systems held by the differing people is so distinctive.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!!!

This is one of the best books in the entire series. I really hope we get more and its not the last in the world of Corona.
Once again, R. A. Salvatore has shown fans and new readers alike the power of his story-telling skillset. Salvatore returns us to the world of the Coven with Song of the Risen God, an intriguing, edgy and engaging story. Dark Fantasy in it’s purest form!
RA Salvator is a go-to author for me when I’m in need of quality world-reworking fantasy. This title brings an interesting blend of spirituality, adventure, and imagination. Highly recommended for those who love this genre (or just want to do some exploring).
