Juicy, well written, totally addictive story of wealth and black magic in the south. When the recently widowed, elderly and extremely rich William returns home from a trip to London with a beautiful new wife it throws the entire town into a frenzy. Williams new wife Keisha soon gets close to Marcie, who is also a second wife to one of the towns rich elite. What starts as jealousy when Keisha shamelessly flirts with Marcie’s husband soon turns to something else when Marcie realizes she is the object of Keisha’s attention, not her husband. Lots of twists and turns in this excellent atmospheric thriller. Very difficult to put down. Highly recommended.
Sadly this was a hard one to read, and I was so excited for this author. The characters were just blah! The entire book had my head spinning....what just happened?
I couldn't wait to start this newest release by the author the wrote Behind Her Eyes, which was one of my favorite thrillers in 2017.
The first half of the book was intriguing and I wanted to find out more about Keisha, who has recently married the wealthy, and older William Radford IV. She isn't the only trophy wife in town who has recently landed a wealthy hubbie though, Marcie is now Mrs. Jason Maddox and living her best life.
When these two women meet, the past, the secrets and their insecurities threaten to bring someone down, but who?
I was into this one until the weird voodoo/black magic plot line made its way into the story. Suddenly the domestic drama turned into an unbelievable, quite insane and confusing ride with the most dreadful characters I've encountered in a while. Just couldn't get on board this train.
Sadly, this one wasn't the thriller I hoped it would be.
Wow! This is the second book I've read by this author and it certainly won't be the last! I never once lost interest and felt compelled to keep reading to see where she was going with all this! This has all the elements to make an exciting thriller, lies, murder, infidelity, and even a little voodoo to liven things up a little! also...will there be a sequel?? The ending was wrapped up BUT still open-ended enough in case you didn't get enough of the main players in this little gem! Don't miss this one especially if you loved "Behind Her Eyes" by the same author.
Sarah Pinborough does it again a twisty turning novel.a strange twisted read. I picked it up to read a few pages found myself reading late into the night,Grab this book #netgalley#harpercollins,
I love this author but to me this book missed the mark. I didn’t connect with any characters and for a thriller it was too slow. That with the voodoo talk I just wasn’t interested. This author is still a favorite but this title just isn’t. Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook.
I LOVED Behind Her Eyes and was excited to get this ARC. Set in Savannah, this novel has an appetizer of social scandal, main course of murder and the dessert is voodoo. Go ahead and pre-order! ☑️☑️☑️☑️
I love ‘second wife’ psychological thrillers and after what I thought was a slow start, this one exploded into one of the best in years! Starting more as standard women’s fiction, set among the priveledged Savannah society, this suddenly developed into a twisted story of greed and holding on, no matter the costs. Excellent, just like Pinborough’s earlier Cross Her Heart.

Oh yeah... Love me some Sarah Pinborough! DEAD TO HER is a cross genre, hard to categorize novel of suspense. My best best advice is not to read spoilers, and just skim the description of the book. Just jump in and go.
The twists turn in on themselves and weave from Britain to the Southern United States. Grab your warm fuzzies and stretch out for a terrific and satisfying read. It hit all the right places for me. Recommended reading for all.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. After the first few chapters, which took me a couple days to get through, I absolutely devoured this book. I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book but based on the author, I was expecting a mystery. However, after the first few chapters, I was convinced it was more of a women's fiction book. Oh man, was I wrong! I'm giving it 4 stars because of the slow start but once the book gets going, it really doesn't stop!
This book has everything you love about a mystery...juicy twists, unlikable characters, unreliable narrators, and an unsympathetic victim. This book does have a bit of a voodoo aspect to it which can be unsettling at times. It felt like a way to get plot lines in to avoid further explanation so I felt a little cheated at times. But overall, it doesn't take away from the glory that is Sarah Pinborough. I will read all of her books going forward because she knows how to keep a reader hooked.
Holy twists, Batman. I started this novel yesterday and had to burn through more than half of it today because I just needed to get to the conclusion. Yes, the characters are unlikable, but when everyone is scheming to get ahead in elite society in the South, it's fun to watch them flail and fight. Dark backgrounds clash with current conflicts when William brings his beautiful, young, British bride Keisha home to celebrate their marriage. Having followed Pinborough's career for years, I love that she's brought her sharp English wit and female-oriented thriller style Stateside. The ending may or may not land for everyone, but for me, it was a devilishly fun conclusion to a feisty novel.
This was a brilliant domestic psychological thriller!! Oh I really could not put it down! A beautifully woven plot and crazy fun characters. Some I loved, some I pitied, lots I did not trust. But the author takes the reader down a delicious dark and twisted journey.
Well placed bombshells throughout the book. Just when I thought I had it all figured out it took a hairpin turn. All the way to the final sentence.
Oh I highly recommend this book!
Thank you NetGalley and the amazing Sarah Pinborough for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I absolutely loved Behind Her Eyes, so when I saw a new release by Sarah Pinborouh I jumped at the opportunity to read and review it. I gave this book my complete attention and read it cover to cover. Sadly, I have to say that I’m completely underwhelmed. The cover and description don’t seem to match the story. The creole/voodoo elements don’t feel like they make sense to the story, and the characters are extremely hard to follow. Overall, I just didn’t care about these characters. I somewhat enjoyed the first half of this book, but I was honestly happy when it ended. This was such a disappointment and I feel bad about leaving such a harsh review. I’m still a fan of this author, but this story missed the mark for me.
No one does crazy, messed up relationships like Sarah Pinborough. She's not afraid to go dark and that's why she's one of my favorite writers. Once you start reading this you won't be able to stop so make sure you clear your schedule as you start one of the craziest books of the year but also definitely one of the best.
Sarah Pinborough has a knack for immediately hooking the reader and she proved that to me once again in Dead to Her! This twisty turny novel had me creating so many possible conspiracy theories, but I have to say the ending still threw me for a loop! The character development was on point! I enjoyed that there were several different mini storylines to ultimately create a large one! I finished in record time because I had to find out the who, why, what, where, and how! As per usual, I am already looking forward to reading Sarah Pinborough’s next novel!
Sarah Pinborough does it again with her newest mesmerizing psychological thriller!
Keisha, a young beatiful woman from London, marries a much older William after his second wife dies. Set in the historical city of Savannah, Georgia, Keisha must adjust to this new lifestyle among prominent wealthy families. She crosses paths with Marcie who is also young and also a second wife. Both young women are from poor families and have a lot in common, and Marcie immediately feels threatened by her new competition. Marcie becomes paranoid something is going on with her husband and Keisha. Lies, betrayals, secrets, affairs interlace this fast-paced thriller.
Like Pinborough’s previous novels, Dead to Her is an easy read that will have you guessing until the very end. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers.
Thank you, Net Galley, for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing a digital advance reading copy in exchange for an honest review. I have ready all of Sarah Pinborough’s books and found Dead To Her to be a very quick read. It was suspenseful and filled with twists and turns.
Unlike her previous novels, I found the main characters to be unsympathetic. Her two primary characters are Marcie and Keisha – both young trophy wives – second wives - who find themselves unhappy in their life of Southern Belle’s. Naturally, they gravitate to each other and become “thick as thieves.”
Dead to Her will have you guessing (most likely incorrectly) about what will happen as relationships begin to unravel. Sarah weaves mystery, suspense and supernatural into her book with her usual “surprise” ending.
Overall, it was a good book. The first half was a bit slow as she set up for the second half which really picked up speed. Another very enjoyable book by Sarah Pinborough!
What began as Women’s Fiction, maybe, quickly turned into a strange mystery surrounded by superstitions. I guess the two genres could work together all right, but here it didn’t work for me; the characters were too unlikable, all of them, men and women. And it’s hard to feel sorry for them, let alone to relate. Very rich people with very rich problems. That’s too bad because some aspects were very interesting—the new wife being black and immigrating from Africa for example—but instead it went down to dirt, greed, and sex.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.
Among the Savannah elite and wealthy you have to be willing to do whatever it takes to stay on top. Marcie, a second wife to the determined and successful businessman Jason Maddox, knows this all too well. When Jason's boss William Radford IV, returns from holiday after the death of his first wife Eleanor, it’s with a new, young, foreign wife in tow. The stunning, sexy, wild, and outspoken Keisha is turning everyone's head including Jason. In a world of power, secrets, and money everyone is willing to do the unspeakable to keep what they have...possibly even kill for it.
I was very excited to get a chance to review this new novel by Sarah Pinborough. Dead to Her is a new exciting and twisty tale of wealth, power, sex, secrets, murder, and voodoo...what's not to love. Southern hospitality takes on a whole new meaning in this sexy new murder mystery. Did I mention sex? Fair warning...prepare for lots of Viagra popping, power humping, and orally stimulating action in this one. As with her other novels, try to go into this novel knowing that there are going to be surprises and twists...especially at the end. I find, with her novels, its best just to start reading them without trying to figure out what they are about...it's just more fun this way. The characters in this tale all have secrets, some more shocking than others, which are slowly revealed throughout the story. Everything comes together to create a fun murder mystery with a fantastic twist.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Like so many others I adored Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough. I couldn't wait to get my hands on Sarah's latest, Dead to Her. I loved the idea of this book and I loved the cover. But I will say this didn't meet the bar set by Behind Her Eyes. Either way this was a great book set in Savannah Georgia.
Very descriptive and fun with a touch of super natural elements. I would definetely recommend this to fans of Sarah Pinborough and for those who enjoy domestic thrillers.
