This was a good story and I really enjoyed it!
I thought it was fast paced and there was action on every page and it was a fun novella to read.
I thought that the characters were really good and they worked well together to make it an addictive plot.
It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended!
Rescue Me is a quick, exciting and emotional story of second chance love and the extenuating circumstances that drove the perfect couple apart. Danger and mystery provide a chance meeting between these long-lost lovers and the debilitating secret that has plagued Frank for 20 years is set to be revealed. I liked it but there were some things I didn’t like. But I can’t exactly put my finger on what it is.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book! I really enjoyed it. I wish there had been a bit more building up of the relationship, hints of what’s to come, flashbacks, etc. but still very enjoyable.
Thanks to the publisher for an arc to read and give my honest opinion.
Martha and Frank.... what great character names! Made me feel like I was reading an incredibly old book but since this is a novella, rerelease from being published in 2015 it was short and sweet. Ex high school sweethearts meet years later in a fire, one a victim and one a fireman. Frank thinks he’s s Phoenix since he can control fire and Martha is just your average starving artist.
What did I like? I’m not a fan of novellas since I’m not a big believer that you can properly flesh out a character in a few pages but the chemistry was there.
Would I buy this book? I don’t like anthologies and don’t really care for novella length so I usually skip buying them. If you wait long enough authors are always giving novellas as freebies periodically.
Thoughts for the author? Looking forward to your next full length book!
I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the easy flow of the storyline, and the character development of Martha and Frank from teenagers to mature adults. It was heart-warming to witness the depth of their love, and to know that time hadn’t diminished their passion and connection. This story is easily finished in one sitting and leaves the reader with a smile and feeling hopeful that true love not only exists, but can stand the test of time and seperation.
This was a good quick read. It really is quite a short little novella, so I managed to read it almost in one sitting. The only real problem with it, is that as it's so short, it leaves you wanting a bit more.
The main characters were lovers when they were teenagers, but after Frank discovered that he was not who he thought he was, he ran away. Worrying that he might be a danger to Martha and his family, he has not seen them in 18 years. By chance, he rescues her from a burning building and it soon becomes clear that their love has not diminished over the years.
I liked the romance between the two main characters and I'm always a fan of second time around romances. There wasn't a great deal of room for much exploration of the other parts of the story and I felt that there was quite a lot left unanswered by the end of it.
Ideally, I would have liked to have seen Frank get some answers about who and what he was and what the implications for the future. I'd also have liked some explanation as to why the initial fire was started. (We learn who, but not why.)
For a quick read, this was enjoyable and it wouldn't put me off reading other books by the same author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I received a free copy of Rescue Me from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It was sweet and romantic. The premise was good.
I wish it would have been a longer read.
I recommend this book.
A quick read with enough fire and passion to last forever.
Martha and Frank have a history, they dated all through highschool but one day Frank disappeared from their lives.
Almost 20 years later Frank rescues a woman from her burning apartment only to find it's his lost love, Martha.
A fast-paced book with the rekindling of love and fiery passion.
I liked this second chance romance, but wanted more. I wanted more details on the characters and more on the paranormal aspects. I think I was spoiled with this author’s Tapestry series.
Frank is a firefighter. He has a special talent that makes him a great fire fighter. When is childhood sweetheart, who he hasn’t seen in years is caught in an apartment on fire, Frank has to rescue her. Can Frank and Martha find the person trying to kill her., and will Franks special talent affect their relationship?
I read this book as an arc from NetGalley. I gave it 5 stars
I love this author's paranormal stories so I was excited to pick this up. It was originally published as part of an anthology. This is a sweet second chance romance with a bit of suspense thrown in.
Frank and Martha knew each other as teens. They planned to spend their life together until Frank had an 'episode' and ran away without a word. Fast forward to a burning building and Martha trapped in side. Frank rescues her and they seem to be able to pick up right where they left off.
This is a short read with a lot of action packed into it. My only issue was I wished for more information into Frank. He really spent 20 years just saying--ehhh, whatever this is it is. Didn't try to reach out to anyone about what was happening?? He guesses he is a phoenix but I would have loved more of the mythology around that. It would have rounded out the story for me.
I'm ready to read more about these two. The story peaked by curiosity.
RATING: 4/5
HEAT: 5/5
PACING: 3/5
RESCUE ME is a quick, one-sitting read about high school sweet hearts Frank and Martha. Martha is reunited with Frank, who ran away 18 years ago, during a terrible fire in her home. As a fireman, Frank has a secret, the reason he ran away from home and from Martha.
I enjoyed reading this quick little romance, and couldn't help but swoon at Martha and Frank's sweet reunion. Frank's secret (the ability to control fire) most definitely comes in handy with their situation as the possiblity of a serial arsonist trying to kill Martha comes up.
I love stories where the characters have a messy past and have to work through their past transgressions before they can have their happy ending. With two big sex scenes, they were quick and fiery, like a match, but the warmth of it settled in like a long night curled in front of a fire place.
Personally, I felt the pacing was a bit off and there was LOTS of room for the author to write more (especially about Frank's powers) but that's just a personal opinion.
With a HEA, this is a perfect late night read before bed!
Thank you Beyond the Page Publishing and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this e-arc!
Great love story, with a twist!
Martha and Frank were high school sweethearts with plans for marriage after college. One night, Frank discovered a secret about himself so terrifying he left and never looked back. Years later, Frank saves Martha from a burning building and the love between them is as strong as ever. Problem is Martha is in danger not only from a psycho stalker, but from the secret that sent Frank running in the first place.
Easy read, wonderful story about love, second chances and acceptance.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Very nice story!! Loved it from front to back!! Definitely one you need to pick up. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did.
A hot novella filled with all the emotions a second-chance romance can give you. The action of the plot isn't what captured my interest here, but the reunion of these two characters. I would have liked a heroine with a little more agency in the plot, but I still enjoyed the ride—who doesn't love a firefighter rescue?
