This was such a twisty read and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Woman on the Edge is suspenseful, thought provoking and will definitely keep you on your toes.

This book follows two women: one, a new mother struggling with postpartum depression and psychosis and, the other, a widow who wants nothing more than to be a mother. These two women’s paths collide in a tragic way and we are taken on a ride that will keep you turning the pages!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this great thriller!

The beginning of this book hooked me immediately. The woman handing her baby to a stranger and jumping in front of a train. Why would she do that?

Nicole and Morgan's perspectives were both equally interesting to me and I liked that we saw both stories leading to the encounter in the subway.

This book has it all - secrets, mystery, twists and turns. It is so addictive that you can't stop reading.

I would recommend this if you enjoy interesting, can't put down thrillers.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me a free e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A woman approaches a stranger, hands her a baby, and then jumps in front of an oncoming subway train. Who is she? And why did she pick this woman to give her baby to? How are they connected?
The story is told from two perspectives: Nicole, before the incident, and Morgan, after the incident, and gradually their plotlines converge to uncover the mystery of the woman on the subway platform.

This book was super fast-paced. It wastes no time in getting to the heart of the matter, and then racing a break-neck speed to its climax. The anxiety of the characters felt so real to me that I actually felt anxious at times reading it. The author really captures the woman's descent into paranoia without it coming across as a caricature. Despite some obvious personality flaws in both women, I found them very easy to care about and root for. Morgan's character, especially, surprised me quite a few times.

The only criticism I have, and what ultimately knocks my review down a star, is that I figured out the "whodunnit" part fairly early on. But even having said that, how it was done was still a mystery, so my figuring it out didn't necessarily make it less enjoyable.
Recommended for the avid thriller reader, and those who love fast-paced novels.

Trigger warning: suicide, mental illness, murder, stalking.

Addictive, thrilling, and edgy (see what I did there!). This book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat as you flip through the pages to see how the story unfolds and see what will happen next. Imagine you are standing and waiting for your train to come, and a stranger approaches you saying “take my baby” then places the baby in your arms and falls in front of an oncoming train. Wow!

I love how this book dives right into the heart-pulsing drama from the very beginning of this story. Woman on the Edge is told from alternating POV’s – Morgan in the now, and Nicole from before. I loved how it was written this way to show both sides of the entire story from each woman’s point of view. and also reading from Nicole in the “before” helps us to understand what was going on in her life that led to the events in the here and now.

I enjoyed reading about both Nicole and Morgan’s characters, and they were both likeable and fun to read about. I loved learning about their individual lives, and the events that led to their fateful meeting that day on the subway platform.

Full of twists and turns, darkness and secrets, this book will draw you in to the very end! Way to go Samantha, I look forward to reading your other novels!

I first saw this book on Netgalley, and was so excited when I received an ARC. The plot sounded like it would make for a perfect thriller, and I couldn't wait to crack it open. I honestly flew through this book in two days, and enjoyed every second! This debut novel was a fun thriller, and even though some of it was a little far fetched, I found myself flying through the chapters. I have to admit that the writing and characters were a little simple, but it was great work for a debut! I'm excited to check out this authors next book, and will definitely keep my eyes open for her next release!

Morgan is standing on the platform waiting for her train when a woman comes up to her and says “take my baby” then proceeds to jump onto the tracks.

“Woman on the Edge” alternates chapters between the two main characters, Morgan and Nicole. This novel kept me hooked from the very first page! I inhaled it in two days and anyone who knows me knows that that only happens when I’m obsessed with a book. I needed to know why Nicole jumped, why she had to give her baby up. Why was it Morgan? Was it just happenstance or more? What will become of Morgan and the baby? There were so many questions and so many twists and turns. I absolutely loved it! Every time I thought I knew where the story was going I was completely thrown for a loop. And that ending was everything I hoped it would be! .

I know so much has been said about this book already, but I just have to mention what a fantastic heart-pounding read it really was.
In a quick no nonsense way, I want to sum up why I liked this book so much:
1) it’s a fasted-paced and heart-pounding thriller
2)the chapters are relatively short, which is perfect for people on the go and love to read but can only commit to 15-30 mins at a time.
3)like most great thrillers, it had me guessing until the end
4)this debut from Samantha M. Bailey is so fantastic (I also believe she mentioned on Twitter that after 17 years her debut novel finally out), and I look forward to her next one.
So now the details.
Nicole is a female CEO of a prominent Athleisure company. Mother to her first child, she is currently on a short maternity leave. However, a red-haired mystery woman is causing havoc to her marriage and over-all life. Over-come with worry and fear, she does the one thing can save the life of her new daughter.
Morgan is the woman whose once exceptional life has been turned upside by her husband (whose crimes have financially ruined many of their friends and family), and now keeps a quiet and simple life. Imagine her confusion when a dishevelled woman comes to her (while waiting at the subway station) and places a baby in her arms, then jumps. Morgan is once again at the center of an event which places her as a person of interest.
What a pleasure it was to read this book. I would like thank Simon & Schuster Canada and also to NetGalley for this great read.

This book started off strong stayed strong until the end. There were quit a few twists and turns to the story and I sort figured out where some of it was going but still a very engrossing read.

This is a debut novel for Bailey, who lives in Toronto and has previously written extensively for magazines, etc. The premise is simple…Morgan is waiting on the subway platform and another woman begs her to keep her baby safe, forces the child into her arms and then jumps in front of the train. Police consider her a person of interest as the dead woman was a wealthy entrepreneur and has left Morgan not only the child (complete with legal papers naming her guardian) and also leaving her in charge of money in trust for her daughter. Morgan must try to find out why she was chosen and clear her name. In alternating chapters we follow the new mother and what drove her to commit the desperate act. This is a domestic thriller and in this popular genre Bailey has managed to come up with a different approach that makes for an entertaining read.

Woman on the Edge, Samantha M. Bailey

Here’s a debut by a Toronto writer that’s tough to resist. Social worker Morgan is standing on a subway platform when she’s approached by a dishevelled, wild-eyed stranger with a baby. After the briefest of exchanges, the woman thrusts the infant into Morgan’s arms and pitches herself in front of the oncoming train, departing with the words, “Love her for me, Morgan.” Morgan is stunned, plus she has problems of her own, foremost among them the death by suicide of her husband under shameful circumstances.

Well, that was fun! This book grabbed from the first chapter and sucked me right in with a fast paced start. Morgan Kincaid is standing on the subway platform when a frantic looking woman she’s never seen before shoves a baby into her arms and then jumps in front of the oncoming subway. As the investigation and questioning begin Morgan realizes that the woman actually called her by name and asked her to take care of her baby before she jumped. Morgan is confused by this and consumed by the need to find out how this successful business woman named Nicole Markham knew her and why she wanted Morgan to care for her baby. The story is told in alternating perspectives; with Morgan’s perspective beginning after the events on the subway platform and Nicole’s perspective from the days leading up to the events on the platform. This book was fast paced, gripping and mysterious and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
What a great debut by Samantha Bailey, I will definitely look for more books from her in the future.

This psychological thriller by Samantha M Bailey was a fun, page turning book that definitely kept me on the edge.

The story alternates between Morgan in the present, who has just had a baby thrust at her by a stranger in the subway station who then proceeds to jump, or was it pushed?, into on oncoming train and is killed. The woman implores Morgan to take care of and love her baby. Morgan, who has struggles of her own, wants nothing more than a baby and is instantly bonded to this one, determined to protect it.

The alternating story is Nicole in the past. She is the woman in the subway with the baby. We follow her descent into paranoia and learn why she made such a desperate decision.

However, along the way, there are many unexpected twists and turns. I loved how the characters developed and found Nicole's postpartum struggles well done. Occasionally, I found Morgan a bit predictable and frustrating, but also liked how he wasn't going to leave her fate up to anyone else.

The author did a great job weaving together past and present to bring the characters together on the train platform on that fateful day. Definitely a thriller that kept me guessing.

Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the review copy of this book.

From the dramatic first line of this novel, to the last few pages that finally untangle the twists and turns of the story, WOMAN ON THE EDGE will prevent you from thinking about anything else. The alternating voices of Morgan and Nicole lead the reader into the lives of two women who have become inextricably and dramatically connected, but with no apparent reason why. Bailey’s debut novel is a classic tour de force of a thriller. Her taut, descriptive writing creates strong characters and a diabolical plot that kept me guessing and changing my mind repeatedly … precisely what I crave in this genre. (As a side note, Bailey’s obvious research about postpartum depression deserves mention.) A debut not to miss!

This is an exciting and unstoppable thriller- it's also the debut novel for a new Canadian author, Ms. Samantha M. Bailey. The author tells us this book took 6 years to write...well it was definitely worth the wait!

Morgan Kincaid is a struggling social worker and current pariah of newsworthy stories, she's just trying to get by after her life falls apart.

She's taking the train to work.

Out of nowhere comes a disheveled woman carrying a baby. She thrusts the baby at Morgan and jumps infront of the moving train.

She's Nicole Markham, creative genius behind the "Breathe" empire, a new mom suffering from post partum depression or is it something much worse, something darker that no one can help with?

And so begins the rollercoaster ride of a story with a cast of characters that harbour mistrust, deceit, halftruths and love, you just don't know who to believe or where your loyalty should lie.

There are past sins and wrongs around every corner, all with debts that are coming due.
Strong women fighting to be heard, weak women who will stop at nothing to be strong and a baby who holds all the answers.

Let's hope it's not another six years for her next book...but even if it is I'll be waiting!

4/5 🌟

First off I want to thank @netgalley & @simonandschuster for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and straight to the point. I enjoyed the back and forth between Nicole and Morgan, that made you even more immersed into the story.

I loved the characters, the twists and turns kept coming and the motive I was not expecting. The plot was well developed, well written.

The ending was perfect, we got to know how the characters are doing and I love that about a book. If you're looking for a fast paced straight to the point thriller this one's for you.

Where do I start with Woman on the Edge? Hmm.. a debut Canadian author! Woot! This was a great book. I picked it up and got sucked in right away. I have read numerous thriller, psychological, crime books this fall I thought I can't read more, can I? Answer was a quick yes!

Imagine minding your own business waiting for your train home one evening when a lady with a baby comes towards you looking freaked out or strung out pushing her baby into your arms and telling you to take care of the baby and love her, adding your name in there. Only to watch in horror as she tumbles backwards to her death!?!?! That's what this book is all about. Morgan has always wanted a baby but that thought was derailed when her husband commits suicide because he stole millions from her clients and Morgan knew nothing about it. Morgan downsized her life and tried to lay low and keep to herself.

Things are very different know that she is a witness/person of interest in this woman's death. In a new debut novel of a who dunnit/thriller/suspense type novel you start to wonder if Nicole is losing it or if someone is actually messing with this new mother.

This was a well read plot along with great in depth characters. Yes, of course we all wonder why would Morgan keep doing some of the things she does but it all plays out and had me guessing and actually being wrong. Fast paced, thrilling, psychological that I am sure you will also enjoy.

I give this book a 4.5 stars out of 5! Can't wait to read more from this new Canadian author!

The chapters alternate between Nicole and Morgan, and alternate time between now and before. I loved the way this book was setup, we got to enjoy both sides of the story and were able to understand what led Nicole to hand her baby off to Morgan. This was an extremely well written novel with an amazing plot, and super flawed characters (in a good way). It was a slow-paced thriller with a lot of twists and turns, nothing super shocking happened but it was enough to completley hold my attention. This novel reminded me a lot of Lisa Jewell's writing, and we all know how much I love her writing style. Bailey manages to incorporate not only a thrilling plot but also the struggles that new mothers sometimes face, and mental illnesses that may also follow after giving birth. The characters and their development were spot on, the plot and theme was spectacular and that ending guys. It ended exactly as I hoped it would, I didn't guess where it was going to go but I was super glad with how everything wrapped up.

Woman On The Edge starts with Morgan standing at a subway platform on her way to work when suddenly a disheveled woman start talking to her. After a brief and confusing conversation with this stranger, the woman hands her baby to Morgan and then jumps in the tracks! While Morgan has no idea who this woman was or why she asked her to take the baby, she is suddenly involved in the investigation and forced to find out what really happened.

What I loved about this book was that it starts with this crazy event and then shoots full steam ahead from there! The chapters altered between before and after perspectives of the event and they were written short and addicting. I always enjoy when chapters end with little cliff hangers so you have to just keep reading!

While some of the reveals weren’t as spectacular as I would have thought, the plot holds steady none the less with a lot of backstory. I also have to give praise to Samantha Bailey for her dark but realistic look at postpartum depression.

Overall a quick, addicting read and I can’t wait for more by Samantha Bailey! This one comes out November 26th 2019!
