Gallagher is a new to me author and I am so thrilled to know of them.
Empire city was everything that I did not know that I needed. It was just dark and twisty enough to keep me on edge.
Will definitely buy a physical copy for my bookshelf! 3.5 stars.

This was an incredibly engaging and interesting book and not something that I thought it was going to be. Reading this in the midst of a pandemic and then also a new civil rights movement, really put the book in a different light than had I even read it maybe a year ago. I actually found the characters fascinating And even though the book is written in an alternate universe where somehow Frank Sinatra is a vice president it is woven with so many truths to our reality today that even the most outlandish pieces don't really feel that outlandish anymore. The writing style reminded me of the last policeman, which is also a book I really enjoyed, despite the darkness of the subject matter. Recommended.

This is pretty good overall. The author's excellent imaginations is evident with his creation of an interesting world and interesting characters. It starts slowly and has a decent ending. Recommended for alt historyfans (and are OK with some fantasy aspects).
