I can't believe I have not reviewed this one yet. Such a fun yet also thought provoking read. It also makes me really want to own a bookstore.
What would you do if you had premonitions that could hit at any time and you had to figure out how to react/manage them? Evie Lindsay has this issue and it is part of why she lives on San Orcanita Island, a tiny island with her family. It is part of why she hides in books and her bookstore. Family secrets start to come out as her sister preps for a wedding no one thought would ever happen. The small town/island is not prepared for what comes out and it may ruin every thing Evie has done to maintain her peace. Read to find out!
This was a nice, relaxing, fall into read and I thank Netgalley for the ARC.
One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Evie was an incredible and relatable character. I definitely felt her pain. The island community she lived in sound amazing. This book went through a roller coaster of emotions for me. I would highly recommend All About Evie.
Absolutely enjoyed from start to finish, u didn't want the book to end. Highly recommended, if you like books that keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat.
Three Words:
Books
Premonitions
Identity
Al About Evie was everything I've come to love in this author's novels: quirky, lovable, powerful female characters, some tragedy, a little mystery, a dash of romance and solid friendships.
Evie Lindsay owns a store called Evie's Books, Cake and Tea. She gets super book bossy with her customers, but smooths it over with tea and cake.
Evie's mom, Poppy, Aunt Camellia and Aunt Iris sell flowers, lotions and erotic flower photos...and maybe a little medicinal marijuana out of their greenhouse.
Evie has a delightful menagerie of animals, which gives her plenty of opportunities to see handsome vet Marco, her not so secret crush.
Annnnnnd did I mention Evie has premonitions? She does and has since she was a child. None of her family shares this particular 'gift.'
Evie's sister Jules buys DNA tests for all the women in the family----and they are stunned at their mother and aunts vehement refusal to participate.
Then the results arrive...….
I want to be Evie's friend. I want to buy books, eat cake, drink tea while gazing at the ocean and looking for whales. I wasn't ready to leave Evie and San Orcanita Island, Washington.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Kensington Books and author Cathy Lamb for the free digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
All About Evie by Cathy Lamb
Brief Summary: Evie experiences premonitions often they are of bad things about to happen and she deals with what to do about them; sometimes trying to intervene and save people other times avoiding people all together. As her sister Jules plans her wedding, they both undergo DNA tests shattering everything Evie was told about her family growing up; so she sets out to find the answers herself. This is my first book by Cathy Lamb and she lives up to the well deserved hype.
Highlights: This is a really unique and clever story; showing both the benefits and disadvantages of getting glimpses into the future. Sometimes her premonitions are a gift other times a burden. The guilt that Evie experiences when she can’t positively change the future is akin to survivor’s guilt. I also found it interesting that premonitions were perceived to be like delusions; as others didn’t know how to make sense of them. I did get frustrated with her resistance to Marco! The ending of the book answers a lot of questions and brings the story full circle..
Explanation of Rating: 4/5; this is a very original, unique, and clever premise with some quirky and enjoyable characters!
This would be a great book club pick!
Thank you to Net Galley, Cathy Lamb, and Kensington Books for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review
In All About Evie, Catherine Lamb has created some very quirky, fun, endearing, and lovable characters. This is a story of love, relationships and what it means to be family. I was drawn in from the start. I was not sure as I began reading where the story was going to lead, but I followed and I am glad I did.
The story centers around Evie, who has premonitions and is never quite sure how to handle them. This “gift” has caused Evie many problems, leading her to leave the city. Evie returned to the familiarity and safety of the island she grew up on for a more peaceful life. A big question for Evie is where did this gift come from? And why does she keep having the same premonition over and over, though it is not always exactly the same? What does it mean? Neither her mother, her sister nor her two aunts can help. None of them have the gift.
The story is one that evoked many emotions. I laughed and cried with Evie and her mom, aunts and her sister. They are such amazing people living their lives they find it. I held my breath each time Evie had her recurring premonition. It was chilling.
I thoroughly enjoyed All About Evie. It was at once a fun read with a quirky character and then a story with a strong emotional twist. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Another Cathy Lamb winner! This story was charming, funny, sad, sexy....it had all the "feels"! The characters were eccentric and charming .....and I would just love to have a slice of pie and cup of tea with them! The writing was Cathy Lambs usually awesome unique style and so very hard to put down.
4 stars!
I absolutely adored this novel and Evie Lindsay is such a likable character! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and not only do I highly recommend it, I also recommend anything by Cathy Lamb. She has an incredible talent.
I don’t want to share too much and ruin the plot, so I’ll simply encourage you to read the book. There’s laughter, love and friendship, romance and tears, tragedy and danger as well as a wowie kazowie ending.
Evie Lindsay is one of my favorite characters so far. Everybody in town knows her and knows about her, but they don’t talk about it… well not too much. Evie has an unusual ability to know things before they happen. The people on the island love and try to protect her. She uses her ability to try to help people; she can’t control it. It just happens when it happens.
She and her sister are just about as opposite as you can get but they’re close. Their mother and two aunts, all quirky - might be witches, the good kind, or they might just be quirky. Either way, they offer relevant advice and wisdom and much comic relief.
A fun gift leads the family down a difficult path and when outsiders come to the island, the life as they all know it is threatened.
I received an advance copy of this novel; all opinions are my own.
I couldn't imagine the burden that Evie harbors. Having premonitions may seem like something exciting, but I can see where it wouldn't let you live a "normal" life. Feeling responsible for other people's lives isn't something that I would want bestowed upon me.
Because of this "gift" Evie lives a very careful and monotone life. She deprives herself of happiness day in and day out. Putting others before herself constantly, but for her its got to be enough. Knowing your own fate can be draining as well.
When Evie takes a DNA test for fun she doesn't realize that it will disrupt her carefully put together life. Bringing her closer to the vision that she's had all her life. The one vision that she can't see the ending to.
A heartbreaking and heart warming story about self discovery and family love.
Amidst this eclectic cast of characters, Lamb pens the story of a strong woman, who reconciles the secrets of the past that collide with everything she has known about her life. The pages of this story are bursting with a wonderfully eclectic cast of characters, from the wonderful free-spirited aunts to the strong survivors of abuse. I could not help but laugh at Evie's love for books and her ability to push or broaden the reading taste of those around her. I have read stories where the Irish second sight is mentioned, but I have never read it in a contemporary story setting. I loved how this is tied into one's awareness of community and helping others.
While there is a small romance, this is a story of family. It is a story of survival and a story of love focusing on the many relationships we share in life as a parent, child, lover and friend. This is my first book by this author and I was a bit hesitant at the beginning of the story, but I am glad I continued because I found it a be an enjoyable read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the author/publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The plot has humor (I found myself laughing out loud), adoption, domestic abuse, imprisonment, foster care, suicidal tendencies, books and flowers, and some romance. Evie has lots of animals which brings in humor including their names! Evie proclaims her pets: “I love my animals, and when I’m around them I feel better, calmer.” Evie owns a small bookstore on an island where she also serves food and drinks. I can relate with Evie – especially her love of books. Hoarding them, reading them voraciously and “…my slight obsession with books.” Evie reads to keep premonitions at bay. Premonitions is an undercurrent plot throughout the book. The food also provides some levity to the story. “Pumpkin cake has pumpkin in it, therefore it is part vegetable.” Evie’s mother and aunts are hilarious. Evie’s love of her animals is heart touching.
Evie describes herself as “…a tough bird on the outside but not so tough on the inside, hence: breakdowns.” Evie reads to keep premonitions at bay. Premonitions is a frequent undercurrent plot throughout the book and Evie is frequently protecting people.
Evie is a gal I would love to meet. She’d keep me laughing with her love of books, animals, people, and food! While there are sad moments and, at times, heavy topics, I felt the humor outweighs sadness. I recommend “All About Evie.” It’ll bring some smiles on anyone’s face.
3.5 stars. Evvie Drake is a quirky and lovable character who has struggled her whole life, claiming she is a mess and meant to be alone. Surrounded by a loving family and wonderful community she is living her life’s dream of running a bookstore and eating lots of desserts. Evvie has been plagued with the gift of the “Irish third sight” and gets premonitions, often resulting in stress and anxiety and sometimes guilt as she sorts out how to help people. I enjoyed this book, but felt that it was maybe a little overly descriptive at times about the animals and desserts and the sisters boyfriend without progressing the story. Overall, I did enjoy this book. I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
Quirky book that’s about Evie a woman who has premonitions and her eccentric family. The best parts of the book for me were the parts about Johnny and Betsy who we learn later in the book have a connection to Evie. I found other parts pretty repetitive and somewhat annoying. I think the talk about pie, and animals was a bit overdone. Every time Evie ate she talked about pie and how it was really healthy since it was a part of a “fruit group” in her mind. Everyday the animals were getting out of their pens, which was a bit much. Evie’s sister Jules was useless and only talked about how great her fiancé was in bed. The character of Jules could’ve had so much more depth, and it annoyed me that Evie never called her on the ridiculous conversations. I like Evie’s spunk and her ability to put people in their place when necessary. I think without the repetitive nature of some parts the book I would’ve enjoyed it a little bit more.
Such a heart felt story of love, loss and family. Secrets and truths. Warm and fuzzy feels. You'll fall in love with Evie and her aunts.
I was given an eARC of this book in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.
I really wanted to like this book. The premise with the premonitions seemed right up my alley. And the life changing discovery about the past? I called about two chapters in. This book wouldn't have been quite so awful if the characters weren't all completely obnoxious.
Evie- "Oh I love Marco but we can't be together for reasons I won't disclose to him". " I love him so much even though I avoid him at all costs and have never even been on a date with him because I flat out refuse all of his advances". And then there's the fact that she is super judgy to her customers in her bookstore, trying to force them to read what she wants them to read rather than what they would actually like. If this was the real world, and not book world, she wouldn't have a business.
Evie's sister who's name I can't even remember. Every time they asked her what she liked about her husband all she could talk about was how he was in bed. I don't know if that was supposed to be a joke or if the author thinks that is all it really takes to make a relationship work, but no.
Then there's the police officer. He was an over the top harasser. I know that sort of thing does happen, but it was like the author tried way too hard to make this cop seem like the bad guy, and it ended up just being very cringe.
All in all, I was hardly invested in the story and was just ready for it to be over. I don't know that I'll be recommending this one to anyone
This is my second book by Cathy Lamb. I elected to read this book because I liked the first. But for some reason, I had a difficult time with this one.
First, even though the first book was chaotic - the author jumps all over the place, it just didn't work for me this time. It felt like the book needed to be on Adderall.
Second, I hated the theme of the parents lying to adoptive child. There is NO EXECUSE. NONE! What did the parent think when she discovered the a DNA test was pending? That it still would go away.
I have always loved Cathy Lamb’s books but this one was a struggle for me. Some of the characters were so over the top they were unbelievable and distracted from the story. Jules especially. There was a lot of repetition. The big climax to the story was so predictable. I would have like to read more about Evie’s breakdown trip and followed her journey back to the island and her family. I’ll look forward to her next book as she’s always been on elf my favorite authors.
In Cathy Lamb's _All About Evie_, she. weaves a story of Evie Lindsay's search for her own idenity and past. Set in the San Juan Islands, Evie runs a bookstore of sorts where each day is matched with a dessert of the day and herbal teas and many interesting patrons. But unassuming bookseller is not quite what Evie is. She is blessed with premonitions or cursed with them depending on the premonition . She lives next to her mother and her aunts who add a lively quirky and funny element to the story. There are multiple storylines within the book, from how Evie acts upon her premonitions, to how she can avoid the temporary new sheriff in town, to her one true love, But the main storyline is Evie's past and her search for answers. This book was an unexpected pleasure to read. At first it was quite confusing as to where it was going, but after the first few chapters I was intrigued on how it would all unwind in the end. If you are looking for a book unlike any you've read, pick this one up
What a storyline! From family secrets to twists and turns finally to happy ever after. This book stir bunch of emotions in me. I cried, laughed and learned how to love a book again!!
