Evie Lindsay has had premonitions since her childhood, being raised by her mom and quirky aunts, who are currently growing and selling pot to the local residents, including their police chief! While Evie prepares for her sister’s upcoming wedding, her premonitions are more frequent, more powerful, and more troubling, as they portend misfortune toward anyone Evie becomes romantically involved with. Meanwhile, Evie and her sister take a DNA test to figure out their genealogy, receiving shocking results.
There are several subplots that intermingle and make this a fun read. Cathy Lamb has mastered the twisty, turny plot twists that keep the story moving and the reader engaged.
A uniquely riveting tale of family secrets, heart-wrenching fates ruled by violence, sometimes overly detailed, but with a happily ever after that's as satisfying as the dogs, cats, goats and alpacas are cute!
All About Evie follows two women with the gift of premonitions. We are first introduced to Evie, who loves animals, her family & friends and her neighbors. She grows up in a tight knit community. Her mother and two aunts are free spirits. As the novel progresses, the point of view alternates from Evie to Betsey, another, older woman with premonitions. They both have similar premonitions and the novel moves toward the mystery of how they are connected. The novel is definitely quirky with colorful characters and a hunky veterinarian. It was a fun read but dealt with many serious themes.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read and offer an honest review.
This is one of the best books I have read all year!! Oh my word, I have no idea how Cathy does it but she is a very diverse writer. This book will hook on the first few pages and not let you go till the end. And speaking of ends, what an end it is! I could not put this book down. I am recommending this to anyone looking for a new story and who has nothing on their plate for a few evenings, I had to finish this book!
A first by me by this author and I must say finding her was like christmas day!!!! Without a doubt one of my new favorite authors of the year!! This book had everything I love, magic, family, sadness and love! Evies love of books and her magical giftleaves her shocked and questioning everything shes ever known -will she be able to forgive those who kept her truth from her and will she be able to embrace her newfound power? Youll have to read to find out! Without a doubt one of my favorite books of 2019!!
All About Evie would make a fantastic gift for the holidays. This mystery book is well written and entertaining. The characters are well developed and interesting. Well written and worth the finish.
This book was hard to put down for me. It is part romance and mystery. We see Evie ‘s character through the people around her and the past as shown to us thought the eyes of her mother. I don’t want to give anything away. You have to find these things out by reading the book!
I was really excited that I was given the opportunity to read and review this book by Cathy Lamb!! She definitely did not disappoint. Evie character made me feel lits of emotions. This was very well written and I'd highly recommend it. If I could I'd buy a copy for everyone I tell about this book.
I thought, even as a child, that I felt alone because of the premonitions. That is was the premonitions that were making me feel so isolated. No one else in my family had them, so that right there, plus the fear and stress they brought on, set me apart in a terrifying way. And yet. There was always something else there, too. Something I couldn't put my finger on. It was a loneliness, a tearful well, a hole that was unfillable, settled deep in my soul. I never understood it, but I've come to terms with it.
Evie Lindsay has a special gift that at times has been a curse. She has premonitions and many of her premonitions she has seen death, violence and a happy endings. With these premonitions she can help a happy ending by making a connection or if premonition is violent or leads to death she can give warning. Evie lives in a hippie like community in Washington state. She loves her community, her book store, and her family. Her sister Jules, also her love sister is Evie's complete opposite. But they make it work. Where Jules is crazy, Evie is reserved but not stuffy. Jules like to go fast, and Evie likes to be safe. Her mother and her aunts live on the island with her and add to the charm of the life of Evie. Evie loves her crazy family, the acceptance she has and the support she is given but she knows with this gift, she is better alone. She is haunted by two premonitions. Each one confirms that she must live life with just her animals and away from people
Evie does'nt know that she came from a line of women that can see in the future. Some of these women use their gift for good with bravery and some have cowered with their gift. Evie comes to the knowledge of where she came from and with that knowledge where she can go.
The characters are a mixture of crazy fun, crazy stupid, crazy sad. It is easy to like Evie has she desires to use her gift for good. She stands up for herself and is a loyal friend, daughter, and animal lover. She always sees the good of eating any dessert.
A Special Thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Evie's sister, Jules, is getting married. And not in the usual way! Jules decides to have a DNA test done on her and Evie. This throws a huge kink in the whole family's heritage. This explains at lot about Evie's special gift...among other things.
Evie has premonitions. She can see if someone is about to get hurt. This is a curse as well as a gift. Sometimes she just can't save everyone. It is heart wrenching for her. Plus, she is having a premonition with herself involved and she cannot figure out what is going on. She is also being stalked by the new law enforcement officer in town. She is completely unnerved by this man, and not in a good way.
This story is just full of unique characters and creative imaginations. Evie's aunts tickled me to death! And Evie is a character I fell in love with. I related so well to her, minus the premonitions 😂. She is an introvert but yet, she loves people. She also loves books! I enjoyed all the book references. But, that is just a small section of this tale. This story is about love, family and overcoming difficulties. I highly recommend this extraordinary tale!
What a great book! I enjoyed the characters so much, Cathy Lamb did a wonderful job creating her characters. I liked the way the story was told in current time and then to make you understand more of the story a chapter would be included of past time.
Such a good book, be sure to read it!
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read and review, "All About Evie" by Cathy Lamb. Overall, I enjoyed the story. The premise was interesting enough for me to keep reading. I have read a few books by Cathy Lamb and I have enjoyed the ones I have read so far. The only downfalls of this story are: how long it takes to get to the premise and how many things are repeated over and over again.
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book took a little longer for me to read than usual, but this is because I didn't want to speed read through it and miss any of the special details this book had to offer. I absolutely loved the raw emotion described in this book. Evie was a likable character and you couldn't help by want a happy ending for her. I laughed, I cried, I re-read certain parts. I highly recommend this book and can' wait to read more by this author!
I love Cathy Lamb's writing, and this book just reestablished her place in my list of favorite authors. Evie has a gift of premonition, a gift which can be a nightmare when she can't intervene to change the future. Raised by a loving couple, and two quirky aunts, Evie still feels like something is missing in her life. A complicated character, Evie is a strong woman despite her depression and anxiety which can haunt her. I love the female characters in the book, the magical realism, and the warmth and love. Highly recommend for an enjoyable and hopeful read, coming at a good time. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the ARC of this fascinating book! My review opinions are my own. I am always a fan of Cathy Lamb books and this was a charming heartwarming book that has a likable sweet character with a extraordinary life.
Evie is a bookstore owner and a very talented baker. The recipes in this book are quite mouthwatering and outstanding . I love Evie as a main character. She has a secret gift of premonition and the book starts off very exciting when she saves a child. To better understand her gift she does research into her family history and makes some fascinating discoveries. She learns of gifted people in her family and grows to understand her own special gift and it's importance.
This was a charming book . I enjoyed the story and each aspect of Evie's life especially her great love of animals, her bookstore and unique gift. Very well done to the author.
Outstanding.
Evie is a book and animal lover who enjoys eating “healthy” sweets and looking at Marco. Evie also has premonitions - good, bad, and ugly, which make her day to day life interesting, to say the least.
This book will make you laugh; it will make you feel angry; it will make you cry. This is not a novel that easily fits into any one genre, it is romance, it is mystery, it is fiction - perfect package in my opinion. Basically, it’s a book unlike any other I have read, and I really enjoyed it. It is absolutely a feel-good novel and I highly recommend reading it.
I received a copy of this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This wasn’t my favorite which is hard to write because I love Cathy’s books. This one just seemed to repetitive for me which made me detached from the story. It could be because I figured out her premonition early on so I kept waiting for when it would happen. I know many that have loved it so it could just be my experience. It won’t stop me from reading more and referring her other books.
Despite having never read any of Cathy Lamb’s previous work, when I saw this book I knew I wanted to read it. The cover was absolutely gorgeous and the description was intriguing.
All about Evie started off strong. Evie had a premonition and the first scene begins with her running to prevent a little girl from being hit by a truck to save her from death. The first chapter was fast-paced and exciting and I couldn’t wait to fly through the remaining pages. Unfortunately, the chapters that followed slowed down dramatically and I quickly grew bored and unmotivated to continue.
One of the major hooks of this book was that Evie takes a DNA test and the results “blow apart everything Evie has grown up believing about herself and her family”, but this part doesn’t even happen until well into the second half of the book. Even once she takes the DNA test, it was such a small part of the book, and one that readers pretty much figured out for themselves at that point. Even with this detail aside, it still had the capability of being a decent book.
All About Evie took me quite some time to finish and it’s mostly because of the constant meandering and rambling of details in each chapter that had little relevance to the story. I grew bored with the endless descriptions and overstated jokes, such as Evie always explaining how her desserts were healthy because they were made from fruit and fruit is good for you. The characters were quirky and mildly entertaining, but Evie’s sister was a little too over-the-top for my liking. Her inability to talk about anything other than her time spent “in bed” with her fiancé grated on my nerves. I felt as though I could skip over most chapters that involved a conversation with her and not miss much.
Along with the overly descriptive and redundant writing, this book held many great qualities as well. I loved Evie’s menagerie of animals- dogs, cats, alpacas, goats, horses, and I’m sure there were others that I’m forgetting to name. The fact that Evie owned a book store made me quite envious, and the descriptions of all the delicious cakes and pies she served kicked my cravings into overdrive. I also enjoyed reading about Evie’s budding relationship with Marco, the local veterinarian.
Overall, I considered All About Evie to be an entertaining read, I just wish it was a bit shorter. I think I had overly high expectations going into this book after seeing all the 5 star reviews from previous readers. I will definitely read more of Cathy Lamb’s work in the future. The Man She Married has been on my to-be-read list for a while now!
A beautiful story which had me complete enticed with the richness of the writing and the way the author Cathy Lamb told the story of Evie who had the gift of premonitions.
The characters added to the story making it complexed. There was a different texture to it. I love books which have a bit of extra sensory involved in it. This book brought out a mystical flavor to the story.
A DNA test to check out the lore about their heritage brought out certain secrets. Evie was then compelled to go in search of the truths. Emotions were weaved beautifully in the tale, making me choked up at times. It is to Evie that I connected to, so I could feel her keenly.
The book had it all, emotions and romance, relationships and friendships, family and community all bound together with love. A beautiful read.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for the chance to read All about Evie. This was an excellent read by Cathy Lamb, the story of Evie, a book story owner who has premonitions all her life, who has a quirky family, and Betsy whose story is told in flashbacks. The story, sometimes funny, sometimes, sad, shows the good and bad side of people, and how everyone needs family, love and books.
