Lovely festive read. It was a heart warming romance. It was a wonderful book to read. It was well written and flowed well.
Three Christmas novellas to get readers in the mood for the season. A quick read and rather predictable. My favorite was Mistletoe and Mimosas because it a had a little more depth. Just an okay collection.
“A Snowy Little Christmas” by Fern Michaels Tara Sheets Kate Clayborn
I requested an ARC from the publishers for this 3-novella book. Yes it was granted, thank you very much, and my honest opinion of these stories is this. IF you like sweet contemporary short stories with a twist of romance, a few road-blocks and mis-directions along the way to the possibility of a HEA then I think you will like these stories just as much as I did. This book is worth the read. Happy Reading !!
Honestly, I wanted to read this book because the first novella was from Fern Michaels. Plus the stories are all about Christmas so win win!! And I wan’t wrong about the Fern Michaels story. Starry Night was definitely my favorite of the three novellas. Jessie Richmond must clear out and sell her Uncle’s beloved bookstore right before the Holiday Season. The descriptions of the characters and setting makes me want to move to rural New York. (GASPI Did this southern girl just say that!) Fern Michaels has a way of character development that makes me think these are real people and she has just changed their names. The story is fun and Christmasy and snowy, plus the sparks that fly between a couple of characters will keep a Yule log burning for awhile!
Mistletoe and Mimosas by Tara Sheets was surprisingly enjoyable. I say that because I am not familiar with Tara Sheets and the story was a little more serious. Sheets develops a story around past hurts that are sometimes misunderstood. The forgiveness them is strong in the plot line. We deal with high school bullying and families that aren’t always what they seem to the outside world. Because the story is written during the Holiday season the plot is definitely kinder and gentler than it could have been. All in all, I did enjoy the story and will definitely add more Books by Tara Sheets to my library.
Missing Christmas by Kate Clayborn was disappointing. I felt like the story started in the middle of the book. I had no clue who the characters were, what was going on or even what the story was about. Little clues were given the further I read but I just couldn’t get interested. Sorry.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Netgalley.
This was a fun collection of Christmas novellas - all with different voices which was lovely. My personal favourite was Kate Clayborn's story about the best friends/business partners who discover they're in love with each other. Jasper was so well written that I could FEEL his angst!!
This set of stories were a delight! Prior to this book, I had not heard of Tara Sheets and Kate Clayborn but now I'm going to have to add them to my list of must read authors! I feel like all the romance tropes were covered here - new love, enemies to lovers, and friends to lovers. I enjoyed them all pretty equally! Kate's was a bit more steamy than others but all were pretty closed door. So if you want a feel good, light, and easy PG-13 romance set around Christmas time, definitely pick this up!
This is a collection of three short stories, each with the common thread of folks who thought that their chance for love had passed them by only to discover a new romance. I really enjoyed two of the stories, but one of them was not my cup of tea. Given that two of these authors were new to me, appreciating one of them is not too shabby!
Okay. I honestly only requested this ARC for Kate's story because I heard there was a n only one bed situation! And it's set in the chance of a lifetime universe with some side characters from book 1. I loved that story most of all! Jasper and Kris were just soooo great and the feelings. swooon. they're friends and they work together and they kiss! Which leads to feels city and all the complex emotions that involves.
Kate's grasp on human emotions is so masterful. She captures alot between Jasper and Kris with this novella. Their fears of what the kiss means for them working together. Why Jasper doesn't like Christmas so much. how much he cares about Kris, enough to try to recreate her family Christmas for her when they get stranded because of a blizzard. That is one heck of a sweet gesture. And it just works so well because it's not generic at all. And is tailor made for his LI! That to me makes the difference between a just okay read and a great read! It's all about the gesture. it doesn't have to be something grand and over the top but it has to work for the other person.
My second fave story is the one by Tara Sheets, set in her Pine Cove Island universe. It was sweet too.
i have to admit I didn't finish the first story, because I felt like all the details were too info dumpy and bogged the story down. The premise was interesting but ultimately the story itself didnt grab me.
But I did enjoy the other two which were quick little wintery reads.
I adored Kate Clayborn's novella in this. I didn't realize how it was connected to her lottery series and that connection, while small, was done really wonderfully. It was woven in beautifully and not jammed in there. I thought the motivations and relationship of the couple was really clear for such a short book.
Not going to lie to you, I was basically in this one for the Kate Clayborn story, which as expected was perfectly delightful! I love a good Christmas novella, and this totally delivered. It was perfectly crafted. I loved that they are trapped with one bed--is there any romance trope more delightful? And all of the LONGING between the two of them gets resolved in a pleasing way. The meta commentary on Hallmark movies was perfect.
This is a delightfully cozy Christmas anthology, but I need to call out MISSING CHRISTMAS by Kate Clayborn -- it's possibly the best novella I've ever read, and it made me cry, and I think Kate is truly one of the best new romance writers out there.
I am going to be honest and admit that I read this anthology strictly for the Kate Clayborn novella. I was not disappointed. The premise of two best friends and colleagues who have so much mutual respect for the other that they absolutely refuse to address the fact they are stupid in love with each other was so splendidly well done. The juxtaposition of a grumpy who doesn't like Christmas for very valid reasons and the sunflower who does love Christmas coming together over some baked holiday cookies and sweet love making under the holiday lights is my perfect Christmas romance story. The end.
