I was glad to see a full length book within this series. The last few novella aren't long enough for me to get my fill of South Cove. Jill and her friends seem like such a pleasant group that you could really like IRL. One of the topics that ran through this book resonated with me as it had to do with scams on the elderly. As my parents are becoming elderly this is a concern to me. I felt that it was relevant to today's issues and was glad to see people rallying around to counteract it. Oh, and there is a mystery to solve among all that. overall, a good read.
Lynn Cahoon succeeds again in bringing to close another cozy mystery in South Cove. This book focuses on two mysteries. As the novel opens, Jill is hosting a speaker from the local center for aging. Not surprisingly, her appearingly mismatched boyfriend, a center volunteer is found murdered. While Jill, against Greg's wishes, snoops around the edges of this mystery she's more concerned with Aunt Jackie's state of mind and health. Aunt Jackie has broken her engagement to Harrold who's broken hearted and is distancing herself from everyone who loves her. Could these two events be related? Maybe, maybe not...you'll have to read the book to find out! The author is continuing to move the needle on Jill and Greg's relationship which is a welcome move for long time readers. And, she's started mentioning new names, introducing a local pastor in this volume. Hopefully the new blood will keep this pleasant series going for a long time.
I have been so richly rewarded by my wait for another full length book in Lynn Cahoon's A Tourist Trap Mystery series. 'Memories and Murder' has it all - a great mystery, romance, family, lessons in loyalty and humor. It is just plain wonderful. I have read each book in the series and can't recommend it highly enough. I look forward to more for many years to come.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This is the 11th is a long running series that I seem to have missed prior to this book. Its a really cute cozy with lots of interesting and likable characters and just enough mystery to keep me interested from start to finish. Now I need to go back and read books 1-10 and see how this all started. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
Memories and Murder by Lynn Cahoon is number eleven in her Tourist Trap series. I feel like I've been waiting forever for this book because readers finally get to find out why Aunt Jackie broke her engagement to Harrold.
Jill discovers why her aunt as been acting so strange and the topic is contemporary and too prevalent currently-seniors being scammed/victimized by unscrupulous men and women hoping to feed off of their emotions. Greg is involved in a murder case so Jill decides to do her own investigation into this scam. Are the two crimes connected? I enjoyed getting to know Deek more in this one. He's smart, quirky and a fantastic addition to the Coffee, Books & More "family". South Cove is a spot on the California coast that I want to visit. Since I've read every book in the series, I want to meet Jill, Greg, Amy, Aunt Jackie, Harrold, Toby and Deek. A quickly paced plot with red herrings, twists, turns and those red herrings that hide in plain sight kept me turning the pages until the finale. I highly recommend this book to cozy mystery fans.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In this visit with Jill Gardner is trying to figure out who is targeting her Aunt Jackie by pretending to be her late husband Ted. Jill learns that there are scams out targeting vulnerable seniors. Jackie confused by the reappearance of her "dead" husband doesn't know what to believe.
The mayor is running for re-election and is convinced that Greg is leaving the police department to run against him, even though Greg tells him over and over that he has no interest in politics.
This book has some important warnings for seniors everywhere to be careful with their information.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Lynn Cahoon wins the gold with another excellent tourist trap mystery!
This time Jill is worried about her aunt who may have been getting calls from her dead husband and the boyfriend of an advocate for the elderly who is found shot to death.
Great small-town vibe and characters
I really enjoy this series and the progression in the lives of the characters. Jill Gardner, owner of a book store/ coffee house lives with her boyfriend Greg, police chief, and a town full of interesting reoccurring regulars. There is always a murder which Jill can’t resist trying to solve a lot of reading, and a lot of eating.
In this latest, Jill’s aunt has broken off her engagement to Harrold without explanation until Jill discovers Jackie’s being targeted in an elder scam with someone trying to convince her, her dead husband is alive. A good mystery, great characters, I always like this series and highly recommend
Jill Gardner loves her life in South Cove, California. She’s got it all with her Aunt Jackie, her handsome boyfriend/sheriff Greg, her Aunt Jackie, their dog Emma, her friends and her coffee and bookstore family. Life is good. Well, it was until Aunt Jackie broke off her engagement without even telling Harold or anyone what prompted the decision.
When the bookstore hosted a talk on elder abuse and care, Jill had no idea she would be calling on the speaker for advice before the day was over. Turns out someone is conning Aunt Jackie with calls claiming to be her late husband. But things aren’t adding up and she’d already lost a lot of money in a Ponzi scheme many years ago. But how to protect Aunt Jackie and get her back with the man who loves her?
Luckily there are many people in South Cove who love Aunt Jackie and want to help make things right. But will Jill and the gang be able to find out who is behind the scam before something bad happens to Aunt Jackie or someone else in town?
I have read this series for awhile and always, ALWAYS love anything by the talented Lynn Cahoon. This entry is no exception. Heck, when Jill says
“I’ve always related problems to books”, it was just another reminder that this series is a personal favorite for me. Can’t wait for more from Lynn Cahoon!
I’ve been reading this series since the very beginning. The Tourist Trap series is set in South Cove, California and features Jill Gardner as our main character.
Jill owns Coffee, Books and More, which is exactly that, a coffee shop with a bookstore. Jill isn’t the only one in this ambitous endeavor, she shares the shop with her Aunt Jackie, a spry senior who believes in living life to its fullest.
Jackie has had her share of heartbreak in her life, including the death of her husband Ted, which this book focuses on.
When Jackie suddenly calls off her engagement to Harrold, everyone is shocked, especially Jill. Eventually Jackie spills the beans about her decision, which sets the scene for an incredible storyline.
It seems someone is scamming Jackie, using Ted as the bait. While Jill knows her aunt is very independent, she hates the thought of someone taking advantage of her.
Jill and her boyfriend, Detective Greg King, soon begin unraveling the clues, which lead to a nefarious scheme that involves hurting the elderly.
Ms. Cahoon weaves a delightful tale, full of mystery and deceit, which leaves the reader begging for more.
Ms. Cahoon also pens other mysteries, which includes one of my favorites, The Cat Latimer series.
This is definitely an author to watch!
This is a new installment in the Tourist Trap Mysteries series. You don’t need to have read the prior books to enjoy this book. Fans of the series will not be disappointed.
Jill runs a bookstore/coffee shop in a quaint California beach town. Her boyfriend, Greg, is the local detective. Her aunt lives above the store and helps her out there. The town’s supporting cast of characters are back and encouraging Jill’s curious tendencies when it comes to a local murder where Paula, a shy advocate for seniors, is the prime suspect. Jill tries to stay out of Greg’s Murder investigation, she really does. But while trying to figure out what caused her Aunt Jackie to cancel her engagement, she ends up in the right place at the right time to follow up on leads that might help clear Paula, she can’t resist.
Lynn Cahoon makes South Cove and the locals come alive once again. This is a quick read that will bring joy to cozy mystery fans and fans of the Tourist Trap series. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Thank you to NetGalley for a free advanced electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.
Somehow, I missed a few books in the series, so will need to go back and find them. I enjoy the series and the characters, especially Jill and Greg. The other characters add interest as well. I also like the town of South Cove. Jill leaves the murder mystery mainly to Greg and focuses on the mystery involving her aunt Jackie.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley my eARC in exchange for an honest review. - Thank you for bringing this series back to my attention!
Jill is on the trail of a mysterious caller who is targeting her Aunt Jackie. When Jackie calls off her engagement to Harrold and starts acting out of character, Jill has to ramp up her investigating. However, someone wants to shut down Jill's amateur sleuthing career - permanently!
I enjoy this series for so many reasons - the writing style allows the reader to feel as if they are "in the book" solving the mystery, the bookshop/coffee shop setting, the character of Jill is level-headed and kind, the romance is a perfect balance with the mystery, the entertaining supporting characters and it's nice to see a character whose age and life experiences are relatable to readers. This book is fast-paced and the red herrings are very subtle but will make it a challenge for a reader to solve the mystery.
Memories and Murder is a perfect mystery to curl up with on a chilly Autumn day!
I received an ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review of this book.
Memories and Murder by Lynn Cahoon is the 11th installment in the Tourist Trap Mystery series.
This is the first book that I have read in this series and it was so enjoyable and easy to follow that I did not feel lost or out of place diving right in. I can see however, that by reading all off the previous books in order would most certainly add to my enjoyment.
This book was so good that I plan on reading all of the previous books.
I enjoyed the whole host of characters. They were relatable, hilarious, and a few were quirky (hello Esmerelda), and truly added to my overall enjoyment.
I love Jill Gardner as the main female protagonist and cannot wait to read more!
I am glad this book also brought to light the serious issue of elder abuse. As someone that is a healthcare provider, I know how widespread this is, and am very serious about this being addressed. I am glad that this book offered a step in the right direction.
5/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington for this ARC and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this to my GR account immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Bookbub, and B&N accounts upon publication.
I received a free copy of MEMORIES AND MURDER (Tourist Trap Mystery, Book 10) by Lynn Cahoon in exchange for an honest review. Having just attended a lecture on elder abuse, Jill Gardner discovers her Aunt Jackie is currently being victimized. Someone keeps calling Aunt Jackie and tormenting her by claiming to be a long-dead loved one. Jill’s detective boyfriend is on the case until he’s distracted by a homicide. Acknowledging that solving a murder is more important, Jill takes point on identifying the person harassing her aunt. When Jill also interferes in the murder investigation and insists her boyfriend is wrong about his primary suspect, will he crack the case, or will their relationship break, instead?
I liked this book. We finally learn why Aunt Jackie dumped sweet Harrold. I enjoy and recommend the entire series as well as the current book. This is a cozy mystery series featuring small towns, good friends, vapid politicians, a bookstore/café, diner dining, cranky relatives, a hunky love interest, and a sweetheart of a dog.

One of my favorite series. Jackie is getting calls from someone claiming to be her late husband Ted. Jill was worried about her so she goes to her aunts doctors office and they say she is perfectly fine. Jill sets out to investigate if her uncle Ted is really alive. In the meantime there is a murder in the town. While Greg is trying to find the killer. Jill sets out to find the person scamming her aunt. They dont realize it's the same person.
I really enjoyed this book. I've enjoyed the entire series but this book is close to home. The problem of elderly abuse and scams/frauds is so prevalent today. To imagine the pain of thinking a lost one has returned or needs help. The book is fast paced and truly engrossing. I'm so glad that Jackie and Harold get back together. #MemoriesAndMurder #NetGalley
This is a timely, thought provoking addition to a wonderful cozy mystery series. Jill Gardner, the owner of Coffee, Books and More is also the liasion between the city council and the business owners and, as such, she is in charge of the monthly business owners meeting. She has invited Paula, a representative of the senior center, to speak at the meeting. Shortly thereafter Paula's boyfriend Ben, who volunteers at the senior center, is shot to death in their home with Paula becoming the lead suspect. Jill believes in her innocence but she is busy dealing with a scam being played on her Aunt Jackie, someone pretending to be Jackie's decease husband. As the crimes become inter-twined Jill and her boyfriend, Detective Greg King, wind up figuring it out together. This was an entertaining, important story to remind us all of how vulnerable some of our elderly are and how important it is to be aware of it. As Jill says when she reaches the final volume of one of her favorite romance series - I wish this series could go on forever.
