What has Charlotte got herself involved in marrying into the Carlisle family and having Tom as her beloved husband that she can not trust or un-love. Not to mention her mother in law who only wants to control and dictate their whole marriage. Are things as they really seem though?
The plot was good and fast paced over a long period of time which meant that it sometimes lacked the detail to build suspense as the story line just kept moving forward in chunks of time but it was still an enjoyable read.
Charlotte seems to have it all. She's married to Tom, a wealthy businessman, and all she has to do is attend beauty appointments, have lunches with her mother-in-law, and help organise charity events.
But under the surface hides an unhappy woman who is not allowed to make any decisions of her own.
So when she meets Ewan, who is attentive and caring, she quickly falls in love with him.
They soon decide to start a life together, but when Charlotte leaves her husband and arrives at the place that she and her lover had arranged to meet, he's not there. His phone is disconnected, and the flat he used to live in turns out to belong to someone else.
Admitting defeat, with her tail between her legs, Charlottle agrees to go back to her husband after he convinces her that her lover catfished her.
Time passes and after some struggles, Charlotte and Tom patch up their marriage. But it's only superficial.
And things get more complicated when one day Charlotte discovers that Ewan was in fact hired by her husband to seduce her...
I really enjoyed this book. It is a fantastic domestic thriller, full of twists that one moment make you believe one thing only to prove you wrong the next one. However, I'm on the fence about the rating. My initial thought was to give it 4 stars, but I found myself bored at times. The story starts with a kick and sucks you in immediately, but about 30% in, it slows down dramatically to the point that I actually thought "is that it?". It does pick up after that but only to slow down yet again.
The story is spread over several months, and I felt that it was a bit excessive. Also, after initially feeling for Charlotte, once the events unfolded, I got frustrated with her decisions.
Nevertheless, having given it a lot of thought, I decided that even despite those faults, the book does deserve 4 stars as the plot was very engaging and kept me wanting to turn the pages to find out the truth. I had a few guesses along the way, but every time it turned out that I was wrong.
It's a highly recommendable debut, and I will definitely reach for other books from this author.
First book I've read written by named author. It was certanly an edge of your seat, with plenty of twists and turns. I really enjoyed this book.
Thank you netgalley, the author and its publisher for the arc, in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and are completely biased.
I wasn’t aware of this author until I saw a publisher post on Instagram advertising her latest novel, The Stranger in Our Bed. I was lucky enough to receive an advance review copy and found it impossible to put down.
It’s dark, it’s disturbing and it will totally captivate you with each turn of the page. A brilliant debut psychological thriller full of secrets and twists and turns galore.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
This psychological thriller was a good read. It keeps you on the edge of your seat with all the twist and turns throughout. The plot and the characters were great. The first book I have read by this author and it won’t be the last. I’ll keep an eye out for more in the future. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading this genre.

Cleverly written, a dark story with lots of suspense. Not always believable in places but a good read nevertheless and very enjoyable.
Without spoiling the book, I'll just generally say that I liked the beginning but really disliked how it ended. The ending is clunky and the way that they explained it to the reader was strange. I rated it 3 stars because I did enjoy the premise of the book and found Charlotte's situation with her husband, her new lover, and her mother-in-law so interesting. The book was really suspenseful at times.
Oh, my! That must be one of the most toxic relationships I've read lately, and that's what make "The stranger in our bed" such a dark and twisted domestic noir. Charlotte's character gave me mixed feelings. At the beginning I felt so sorry for her, seeing how her husband and mother-in-law treated her, but after she goes back to her husband I started to feel frustrated cause I couldn't understand some of her decisions. The story takes several twists and turns, making you doubt everything and everyone, leading to a surprising finale.
Fantastic example of domestic suspense that will make you keep turning the pages. My only regret is that this is the author's debut novel, so there's no more of her books to delve straight into.

Well this is a gripping book which I have finished in just one sitting. There is literally no way I could of predicted what was going to happen next during this one. I cannot wait to read more by this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This book was a domestic thriller and was very unpredictable which is a nice change. Lots of dysfunctional relationships which kept me wanting more . I found it easy reading only down side was I felt the ending was a bit rushed.
Charlotte is married to the man of her dreams - at least until she starts to feel trapped and hemmed in by not only her husband but her mother-in-law. She embarks on an affair with the mysterious Ewan, who sweeps her off her feet. Charlotte is ready to tell her husband, Tom, that she's leaving - only to discover that Ewan has disappeared off the face of the earth...
While I loved the premise of the novel, and did enjoy the story, I felt like this could have benefited from a much more rigorous edit. The writing style is a little basic at times, and repetitive, and parts of the story were very far-fetched. It was a fun read but it didn't leave me wanting more.
Thank you to NetGalley, who provided me with a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A very good psychological thriller with lots of twists. It is very confident writing for a debut novel and I will look out for future books by this author
Lots of twists and a fairly good story. I dunno why but it didn’t hook me like I hoped. I definitely had to keep reading to see what happened. Overall I enjoyed it!
This book frustrated me, but in a good way because it kept me engaged and unable to put the book down. (I took a longer lunch today because I just couldn’t put it down until I reached the end) I keep going back and forth about what the truth was and what was going to be the conclusion. I was surprised but happy with the ending.
Char has a perfect marriage with a very wealthy man, Tom who adores her but sometimes she feels trapped. She finds comfort in an affair with a stranger, Ewan, who makes her feel alive again and she falls completely in love with him. She decides to leave her husband to be with Ewan but on the day that they are supposed to leave together, he never shows and seems to vanish. Char goes back to her husband but finds it hard to trust anyone after being betrayed by Ewan. Tom believes he owns Char and won’t let her go. But what truly goes on behind closed doors and what secrets are held in a seemingly perfect marriage...

I loved this book, one of my favorites I have read recently. The twists were good alot of them I didnt seem coming. I love a book I cant put down!
Brilliantly dark piece of domestic noir and for me unpredictable which I always long for these days.
This tale is as twisty as you could hope for from a psychological thriller, it also has the benefit of having very engaging characters that elicit an emotional response, be that positive or negative – as well as a cleverly obfuscated plot that makes it hard to unravel until all is revealed.
The themes explored here are relevant and thought provoking, sitting nicely in the background of the ongoing drama so by the time the end comes you are looking back for all the insights – I read this in one sitting, utterly caught up in Charlotte’s dilemma and forever changing my mind on who was friend and who was foe.
Clever and involving. Recommended.
I cant believe this was a debut thriller. The author wrote like someone who has been writing thrillers all along. There is a lot of food for thought in this book. The book is very disturbing and shakes you! Good read overall.
Hard to belief this is a debut psychological thriller for Samantha Lee Howe but it is!
How would you feel when you marry the man of your dreams to find out your living a lie and don’t want to be married anymore.
Maybe you have an affair with a gorgeous man called Ewan and fall desperately in love with him? To discover one day after you’ve plucked up the courage to disclose this to your husband and leave him that Ewan has disappeared off the face of the earth.
Charlotte seems to have it all, until it all goes horribly wrong.
Maybe the dysfunctional relationship Charlotte has with her Mother in law Isadora, and husband Tom is all karma for what she did.
An interesting story line that held my attention initially, but the last third of the book was a let down, The story was dark and held suspense but then became a little too far fetched and everything became a little repetitive. It’s difficult to be too critical as some parts of the book were really fantastic.
Overall a good read.
What a wonderful start for a debut psychological thriller! I thought this book was well-written with a compelling plot. This author pulled some punches that I did not see coming.
With a thrilling storyline and interesting characters, this read kept me enthralled. I found myself despising certain characters and rightly so whilst also being completely wrong about others. Definitely worth a read.
