#TheShadowsBetweenUs
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan for the E-arc copy of The Shadows Between Us. A vividly written novel that will blow your socks off. I love Tricia Levenseller novels they are each unique and exciting. The Shadows Between us is no different. It is filled with dynamite characters, a no regrets novel.
I cannot sing the praises of this book loudly enough. The Shadows Between Us has a ruthless MC who puts her needs before anyone else. She's not exactly a good person but there's nothing wrong with it. She's been left behind by a selfish father and a horribly naive sister, who are only out to save their own images. She's ruthless and feminist, willing to do anything to achieve her dreams.
Alessandra is the kind of woman that people are afraid to write. Although she changes across this book, she's unapologetically herself. She's not afraid to blackmail people or toss them aside when she doesn't need them anymore. Alessandra is one of my favorite characters of all time and I truly think you'll fall in love with her too.
Besides the amazing characterization, the unique shadow magic and kingdom dynamics bring this book to another level. The kingdom and castle that is the background of this novel are such a fantastic setting that made me swoon. The friends she makes brought a smile to my face and I loved watching her meddle into the politics at court.
All of this merges together to become one of the best fantasy books I've read this year. If all of this didn't sway you to pick this us, there's a shocking twist at the end that had me absolutely floored.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Feiwel and Friends through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.*
A first for me is to read a book where I am not a fan of either main characters - that being said, I really enjoyed The Shadows Between Us because of that reason. Alessandra is an awful person but easy to understand in a world where she is being sold off in marriage by her bankrupt father. Her ambition and greed for power will settle for nothing less than being Queen; once she is queen, she can then kill then King and rule alone. Her defiance of the court and its roles placed on women make her an odd champion -- however I'm not sure that redeems her for the path she chose. A fun and entertaining read, The Shadows Between Us made me root for the villains and understand their complexities. I'll definitely be following Ms. Levenseller's other works.
I love Tricia Levenseller's other books but this just doesn't do it for me. I think its because I am veering away from fantasy
This book was received as an ARC from Macmillan Children's Publishing Group - Feiwel & Friends in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
A unknown woman destined to become queen and the only way she thinks she can do it, is by killing the newly crowned Shadow King and take the reign herself therefore, everyone will know who she is and is at her command. A plan so brilliant gone wrong because of love. I am a huge fan of all novels that were expected plans take an unexpected turn and then the newly formed plan is even juicer than the original and the book just keeps getting better and better with all the conflict and situations going on and The Shadows Between Us is no different. I really hope this becomes a series and I know our teen book club will love it.
We will consider adding this title to our YFantasy collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book but I decided to give it a chance. It was very entertaining but i am not sure if I would read it again. I would still recommend others to try it.
This book was a cheesy mess and I'm not even sure how I got through it but I did and here's the review. While this book had been interesting things about it: i mostly enjoyed the lead character, and she had a great, sex positive outlook which is uncommon to see in these kinds of books. And this book was hella sexy at times. I bought into the romance aspects more than I bought into the actual friendship of the two leads, so it was kind of hit or miss. This book was also very dialogue heavy and was basically set almost entirely inside the same place; it was very limiting, though, again, I did enjoy parts. I think this book is meant for a certain kind of reader and that reader is not me, but I still enjoyed the experience.
