This was such a well researched biography, as there were so many things I learned about Jay-Z by reading this. I love how the author focused on the impact his music has had on our nation politically. Highly recommend!

This title is just what I expected from a Georgetown professor's book about one of the greatest rappers ever. The author thoughtfully takes Jay-Z's lyrics and puts them in a cultural context, positing that hustling is just another aspect of the American dream narrative. If you're a big Jay-Z and hip hop fan like I am, you know the author is preaching to the choir on this one.
"I'm a hustler's hope, I'm not his pipe dream, so when they speak of success, I'm what they might mean."
