I really enjoyed this book. I have read all the previous books in the series so i was happy to go back to it.
Danny is the town sheriff, and is friends with the Easts who feature in the previous books. Danny is having some take out when he witnesses a man attack a woman in her car and intervenes. It turns out that the woman in the car Skylar was Dannys school crush and he pulls out all the stops to help her.
A great read and a good addition to the series.
I just loved this book. It was so well-written that it captured my mind and I was dragged along for the ride. Once I started reading I could not put it down until I read the last page.
I really have enjoyed the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant. Each story can be read as a stand alone but the characters pop up in other books. Each story is about a hot Alpha male & a sexy damsel in some form of distress. In A Cowboy Like You, Skylar is trying to escape an abusive relationship from a member of a rich political family. In her fear, her subconscious had her steering her car towards her old hometown. Danny is an old classmate of Skylar’s & is now the Sheriff. He was at the rest area when Matt attempted to forcibly pull Skylar from her car, threatening her the whole time. When Danny attested Matt, it started a series of events pulling all of the friends in to make sure Danny & Skylar survive.
The author gets all of the details right - from the small town attitudes to the rich privilege. I really liked the way the town pulled together behind one of their own, believing her over Matt’s lies. The possessive, dangerous vibe from Matt’s character & the belief he could get away with it would spark fear in anyone. You could feel the fear in Skylar’s actions, prose & movements. This was a really good second chance at love story & a great addition to the series!
Great handling of the difficult topic of physical and mental abuse. Skylar’s attempt to run from an abusive, wealthy boyfriend sends her back to her old hometown where she is rescued by a high school friend, now sheriff. Her small town pulls together to protect her from her abuser, but he’s not ready to give up. Very emotional, well thought out story line with very appealing characters.
Danny had a crush on Skylar in high school, and hasn’t seen her in the years since she moved away after graduation. Danny is the county Sheriff and tells everyone he is married to his job as a reason for not having had any serious relationships, but somewhere Skylar is also one of the reasons. Skylar is back in town and his life, on run from an abusive ex, and Danny will do everything in his power to keep her safe.
Having read about Danny in the previous books, I was really looking forward to his story and was not disappointed. A cowboy like you is a fast paced read with some intense drama, action, superb suspense and romance. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more in the series
How dare he think he can get away with abusing Skylar? Doesn't he know that she has an army of friends and a very protective, honest and loyal alpha man? Reuniting with Skylar finally gives Danny a chance at not being lonely. She is not the one that got away, she is the one that he made the mistake of never feeling secure enough to take the shot. When Skylar comes back to town dragging a world of trouble behind her, he is at the right spot at the right time. He is the perfect guy to help her. And this time around even when circumstances are not the best, he is not missing his chance with her.
Getting away from a crazy powerful ex is a really tough situation. So in this story you can find a strong willed woman, action, excitement, a big protective, dedicated and honest man and a big supportive group of friends that are more like a family than anything else. This book is full of great entertaining edge of your seat moments and good romantic ones too.
3.5 stars.
This is my first read by Donna Grant and I think the word I am looking for is delightful!!!!
I really liked the small town romance feel this book had while still incorporating a very real and true to life situation here- Skylar the heroine was being stalked, terrorized and physically abused by her Ex.
Danny the local sheriff was beyond charming.
Loved this Cowboy!!!
This book ended up having it all, some intense drama with wild action and great suspense plus a wonderful second chance romance in a charming setting.
I absolutely need to check out the rest of this series by this author.
***ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I love this series. Its mostly sweet and focused on the connections between family and friends while still developing the individual stories about each couple. Matt, Skylar's abusive ex, won't let her go. He becomes a grave threat to her life. Danny intervenes in his official capacity as sheriff but old feelings for Skylar make it very personal.
I think of this series this one had been my favorite..We get reacquainted with Danny the towns sheriff and he finds himself lonely, and on one specific night he was remembering his high school crush the only girl he ever really thought of. Skylar is running for her life from her abusive boyfriend, while running she stops at a rest area and about to get killed when Danny comes to her rescue, Danny the guy she had a crush on in high school. Danny rescues Skylar but could not believe it, it must be fate. Lies are revealed about the ex and just trying to keep her safe, luckily for them they have the help of the Harpers and Eastons..Enjoy!
Danny leads a very lonely life. He works long hours as sheriff. One night he comes to the aid of an old high school crush names Skylar. All the old feelings and memories of her come flooding back. He wants a second chance but the problem is her abusive ex-boyfriend. He wants her back and he will do anything to make that happen. Danny will do anything he can to protect her. This book was filled with heat, romance, and lots of drama. The author did a really good job of writing about the issues that are in this book. I am looking forward to going back and reading the previous books in this series. Thanks to Net Gallery and the publisher. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Money can buy most things. Impressively it can't buy Skylar.
I enjoyed reading about the East family again. I love how they stand up for the little guy. The fact that Danny finally gets his lady too is awesome. I don't think it's necessary to read these books in order, but it did help.
Romance, suspense, HEA. It’s all there. Danny and Skyler knew each other in high school. Unbeknownst to them, they each had feelings for the other. But the time just wasn’t right. Fast forward several years and fate brings them back into each other’s life. Danny is the sheriff of the same small town and Skyler returns from the big city looking to escape a bad and violent relationship. Sparks fly and this time the time is right. If she can survive the ex-boyfriend and his wealthy family. Donna Grant always a pleasure to read! I received an ARC from NetGalley to enjoy and review.
The local sheriff gets a second chance at love in this book. When Skylar leaves Danny thinks well that’s it but then she comes back and Danny gets to be her white knight. Grand slam on this one Ms. Grant!,!

Donna Grant is an author you need to watch. She takes romance to a special level.
In this book, Danny and Skylar has a high school crush that neither knew about. When Skylar returns to town running from an abusive boyfriend, Danny is still there. They fight for her freedom from abuse brings them closer and their love to the forefront.
This book started off great but lost me a bit towards the end. It felt a bit too preachy like it was trying to educate me about violence towards women, rather than just be happy to be a romance novel. However, mostly it was enjoyable, although be warned about triggers around domestic violence, torture and narcissistic behaviour.
I received a free digital copy from NetGalley but the opinions expressed are my own.
I kind of expected a "feel-good" small town romance with this book - full of quirky characters and some angst. Instead this turned out to be what I'd call romantic suspense. The main character Skylar is fleeing her abuser, and drives to her high-school hometown. Danny, the local sheriff, helps her, along with his friends. The bad guy is really bad, as is his family, and Danny and his group are great. This really made me want to check out the earlier books in the series, which I haven't read, because I liked the characters so much, and I liked the action too.
I don't usually read cowboy stories but this one was excellent.
It's a page turner that you can't put down with a great cast of characters and an engrossing plot.
Recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
3,5 stars
A wonderful addition to the series (I've read other books in the series before) in general, and a story I just really enjoyed reading from beginning till end.
It wasn't anything overly spectacular and quite predictable, which is why I didn't rate it higher than 3,5 stars. But nonetheless, it was a book I was always excited for to pick up at the end of the day, when I read it on my Kindle in bed.
It was a fast paced read thanks to the enjoyable writing style.
I like the main characters in this one a lot, as well as the minor characters that we've come across in previous books (although, the book can be easily read as a stand alone as well btw!). They are all such a great bunch of people to get to know.
The Second chance romance was really well written in my opinion and I liked the small presence of suspense present in the story as well.
Overall, a contemporary romance that's a good in between read. I'd definitely recommend picking up the entire series, so you get to read the stories of all the characters you come across. It makes it that much more fun when you read later written installments and see characters reoccur in each other's story.
The next installment in the Hearts of Texas brings us the very loyal Sheriff, Danny, who has played an important role in all of the books starting with book 1. Skylar is the one that got away and Danny finds himself in the right place at the right time to save Skylar from an abusive ex-boyfriend who has followed her from Houston. He doesn't even want to think about what could have happened if he hadn't gone out to the rest stop to eat dinner. Skylar never thought that she would return home, but when she runs from an abusive situation, home is exactly where she ends up and runs into her high school secret crush, Danny, when he comes to her aid. From the get-go, the sparks and attraction between the two are obvious to all and when her ex-boyfriend ends up being from a prominent Houston family, the Harpers and Easts come to her aid and return all of the favors Danny has done for them in the years they have known each other. Their story was sweet, with a bit of adventure, a nasty bad guy, and a dramatic conclusion. I enjoyed their story, but I think I liked the other three more than I did this one, not sure why, but I think it was missing something. Not sure what though.
While trying to escape an abusive relationship Skylar Long is rescued by the local sheriff, Danny Oldman. Turn out the Danny Oldman has had a crush on Sklyar since high school. He’s in the right place at the right time to help. Will Skylar finally be free? I thoroughly enjoyed this story not realizing it was set around Christmas. I did feel the story drug on at some points to whereI it could have been wrapped up sooner than it was. The story is a tough one because of physical and mental abuse. The author did a job developing the characters and keeping me in suspense as to when the “villain”, Matt, would strike again. The tension between Danny and Skylar was pretty hot and their time between the sheets was written well. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
