I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great book by an awesome author. Highly recommend to everyone.
I would do a full 5 stars except for the use of the f-bomb and the explicit sex scenes. Another milder 4 letter word could have easily been used and the sex scenes could have been left to the imagination.
A great storyline and sweet romance in which one can only begin to imagine being in such an abusive relationship. We know abuse like this happens and what she describes is probably accurate information of how victims feel and the torment they endure.
Fast paced quick read, but as noted, could be better with the omission of the explicit sex and language. I am not a prude, but those did nothing to enhance the story.
I received this book as a complimentary copy for an unbiased review. The opinions expressed are my own.
A lot of people will love this book, but I didn't. It had a good story line but I don't read books that authors think they have to use the F word to get attention. This was a new to me author, so I know not to get any more of her books. Thank you St. Martin's Press via NetGalley for the copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
"A Cowboy Like You" by Donna Grant was a very good read. It was a fast-paced story with suspense and romance. I loved the interaction between Danny and Skylar, as well as the drama Skylar brought into Danny and his friends' lives. I thoroughly enjoy a book that keeps me turning the pages (even keeping me reading into the night) and this book did just that. If you like a book that has both romance and a storyline that keeps you riveted to its pages, then this is a book that you will truly enjoy. (I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.)
A Cowboy Like You is a wonderful romantic book with a great storyline.
Danny the Sheriff of Lone Star has a hectic but lonely life, not having settled down with anyone he’s home alone most night with a bottle of bourbon for company.
Into his life comes Skylar, previously his childhood crush, she left Lone Star for the bright lights of Houston but has now returned to escape an extremely abusive and violent relationship. Her ex is not going to let her go, determined if he can’t have her no one else will.
As Danny fights to protect her their relationship grows both passionately and lovingly, meanwhile the ex is going all out to harm those close to Skylar and plotting to get his hands back on her.
I’m not writing more about this plot it’s too good to give away! all I will say is it’s a cracker of a story with a very satisfying finale.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
I finished this book and I enjoyed the first half however it became way to unrealistic for me to picture. I thought it was just over the top and not for me.
**I received a copy of a Cowboy Like You from Social Butterfly PR and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions and thoughts weren't solicited in any way.**
A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant is the fourth book in her Heart of Texas series. I've read all of them as well as her Son's of Texas series too. But I have to tell you I loved this book, because of the TLC Ms. Grant took with the subject of a possessive and abusive boyfriend who doesn't understand the word NO. *There are triggers Domestic Abuse and stalker boyfriend.*
Danny Oldman is the Sheriff of Lone Star and longs for the family that all of his friends have but when he happens to be in the right place at the right time to rescue Skylar Long from her abusive boyfriend. They went to school and lost track after they graduated. Now Skylar needs his help when her ex-boyfriend follows her to Lone Star. But what she doesn't know is there is a lot more she didn't know about Matt Gaudet and his family who think money will solve everything or make it go away. It takes everyone from Clayton,Abby, Caleb, Audrey, Brice, Naomi and Cash to help dig up dirt and keep Skylar and Danny safe when Matt goes way beyond threats.
Danny had a crush on Skylar in school but never told her so when she ends up back in town years later, he's shocked. Her goal was to go to the big city and she did as soon as she could. But now Skylar's back running from her abusive ex and lucky for her, Danny is the local sheriff. They won't miss their chance this time if they can survive. Romantic suspense at its best.
Overall I enjoyed this book. The characters are good, although I would have liked some of the secondary characters were a little more developed. I did like the story. I had an unedited version so of course it needed to be edited.
ARC received for review
Another great book by Ms. Grant, not only can she do dragon kings but also cowboys. Danny is the local sheriff and he once loved Skylar. She left, but now she's back and trouble is following her. Danny is her knight with a shiny star, and lots of hot lovin'. Lots of help from the previous couples, as well as couple of yummy friends who I hope get their own books.
A Cowboy Like You was quite the read! Intense drama, great suspense, one charmingly sweet cowboy, and a stronger-than-she-knows heroine, there was so much happening, I couldn’t turn away! I haven’t read previous books in this series and had no trouble following who’s who. However, my curiosity was definitely engaged about recurring characters and I can’t wait to read this backlist!
Possible triggers-domestic abuse/stalking
I received an ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest review.
Absolutely enjoyed reading 'A Cowboy Like You'. It is not often that i read books where there is a cowboy, but the more i am doing so, the more i cannot wait to read more. Loved the two main characters, Danny and Skylar and their friends. Loved the ending, All in all, a well written book and one that i can highly recommend. Hope to read more books by Donna Grant.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy. This is my honest review, which i have voluntarily given.
Donna Grant tells another great cowboy romance!!! Love this series! The characters and the story draw you in and you just can't put it down. I highly recommend.
Danny is an the overworked sheriff in his Texas hometown. While he is surrounded by close friends who treat him like family, he feels alone.
Skylar is running away from an abusive boyfriend and without even realizing it, has driven to the hometown she always vowed to escape. What she doesn’t realize is that her boyfriend has been tracking her and finds her there. Fortunately for her, the sheriff sees him threatening her and comes to her aid.
After arresting the abuser, Danny realizes that the woman he saved is Skylar, the one he has always felt got away. After pressing charges, it becomes clear that this won’t be an easy prosecution. Skylar’s ex hails from one of the wealthiest families in Texas, who will stop at nothing to protect their name. They also begin to find evidence that Skylar’s ex may have left a trail of abused women in his past, all of whom seem to have been paid off by his family.
Can Skylar stay safe while her ex stalks her, and can she and Danny find the happily ever after that they missed out on when they were younger?
Donna Grant has done it again. Not only has she written a shifters romance, she has written a
series about cowboys as well. Who doesn't love a romance series about cowboys. I know I do. I highly recommend anything she writes.
A Cowboy Like You is another wonderful book by Donna Grant. Danny Oldman has never forgotten the girl that got away, his high school crush whom he never asked out. Skylar Long never thought she would be in an abusive relationship, or that she would be running to her old hometown in order to escape her battering boyfriend. When Danny saves her from her abuser and realizes that she is his long unrequited love, he doesn't let the chance pass him by again. However, her circumstances have changed, and their attraction for one another puts them both in very imminent danger. As the clock ticks down, will Skylar's abuser finally get the upper hand and kill Danny? Don't miss this one!
Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this book for my honest opinion. Thoroughly enjoyed this novel, as I have Ms. Grant's others. Definitely one of my favorite authors!
Donna Grant is an auto-buy for me - and this book did NOT disappoint. I love these Texas boys and their ladies. I have loved Danny in every installment of this series so far. I was hoping he'd find someone and Donna Grant has provided!
Danny and Skylar knew each other in high school - but never connected on a romantic level, even though both clearly were interested in each other. For Danny, Skylar is definitely the one who got away. Now they are brought back together again in less than ideal circumstances. Skylar is trying to escape from an abusive relationship with a really really bad guy and her encounter with Danny seems guided by fate. Seeing this tightly knit group of people come together to help each other and especially Skylar was awesome.
There is a lot of action in this book and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I already can't wait to read the next installment!
Love this book and this series!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review - and that is what you got!
This was a very sweet book. Low angst between the hero and heroine, and a sweet hero that was still a little bit alpha. This was a new to me author and I'll definitely be reading more of her work!
Danny and Sklar are wonderful characters from Donna Grant! Danny, small town sheriff who's lonely, but has a heart of pure gold. Skylar, small town girl who left for the big city to find her dreams.
Danny is in the right place at the right time to save Skylar from her abusive ex. She's always been the 'one who got away' for Danny, so when they reconnect, even under terrible circumstances, his protective instincts shine through as well as the true feelings he carries.
This story has drama, mystery, suspense, passion, friendship and unconditional love. The other characters in this book are caring, funny, witty, strong-minded, and would do anything for a friend in need.
This was a great book - I really enjoyed it. Thanks to NetGalley and Donna Grant for the opportunity to read such a wonderful story!
That's right! Everyone needs a cowboy like Danny!!
This was the best of all the series so far. I have read and loved each one of the stories in this series. I see many more characters about which to write. Every one of these characters is an entity unto himself. These are the friends I would want to have should the need arise. Abby and Clayton are the best. Ms. Grant, if you've based them on real people in your life, please send me in their direction. And Danny....what can you say about a hero such as him. He's a man who puts everyone else first. One can't even say he puts himself last because he doesn't even enter the equation. He's been active in each story and always a hero in my book.
I cannot wait for the next installment! If the next one's are as well-written, we have a long reading life ahead of us.
This book was gifted to me by NetGalley and the author in return for an honest review.
