A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant resonated deep with me. It talked about a lot of issues such as stalking and relationship abuse. Women being abused by men-especially men with power and money. I liked how the play of small-town loyalty and real respect was shown in this book. Sometimes, the big and powerful players can force a small-town's hands. In this book, it was not the case. I truly enjoyed reading this novel. Women need to speak up more. To be heard, they cannot remain silent hoping it will go away. Abusers never stop. Until they're forced by the law. Even then, it can be a battle.

The bubbling romance between the two protagonists was done well. I could feel the tug of pull between them. It was irresistible. They were charming, funny, and real. I enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions this book dealt.

Overall, it was a great journey. I recommend this tale to fans of Nora Roberts, Carla Neggers, and Brenda Novak. This was a romantic, heartfelt, and deep read. The domestic violence and abuse was real and a real reminder to all women out in the world. Donna Grant has a way of capturing her audience and keeping them coming back for more. I can't wait to read another book by her!

Danny Oldman lives a lonely and busy life as the county sheriff. He’s seen things that haunt his nightmares, especially this time of year (the holidays). He’s even gotten into a habit of drinking every night just to get some sleep.

One night, while eating his dinner at a rest stop he sees a couple of cars pull in. A man gets out and starts yelling at the driver of the other car. He then breaks a window and tries to pull the woman through it. Danny goes right into cop mode and intervenes. It’s not until after the man leaves in cuffs with one of his deputies that he lays eyes on the female. It’s his high school crush, Skylar Long. The one that got away. The one that he always felt was out of his league.

Skylar is trying to leave Matt for the third time, but he just won’t let her go. It’s not until she sees Danny, that she finally feels safe. Danny takes her to the East Ranch to stay where the security is top notch.

It turns out that Matt lied to her about so many things, including his family. His family is rich and his brother is in politics. They will do anything to keep themselves out of a scandal. And, if Skylar won’t accept a bribe they will ruin her instead. Danny and his friends join together to keep Skylar safe and try to figure out how to get Matt out of their lives once and for all.

I’ve really been enjoying this series, but sadly I found this story to be quite dull. Danny is the sheriff so I expected his hero side to really shine, but it just … didn’t. Instead, of taking her and protecting her himself, he takes her to his friend’s house and leaves her there. He even stays away for days at a time. Danny is a nice guy, sure, but he just wasn’t an exciting lead character in this book.

Also, I found the romance to happen to quickly and it came off rather forced. Skylar is running from an abusive boyfriend, and she hops in the sack with Danny almost immediately. Yes, they had history, but still I’d think she’d need time to recover from her current situation before rushing into another one.

I wanted to like this book, but it just never gripped me the way I had expected.

Danny Oldman, the handsome Lone Star sheriff, is still single and is married to his job. Danny still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush. She moved away after graduation and took Danny’s heart with her.
Skylar Long has to flee Houston and return home. The man of her dreams turned out to be an nightmare and she is desperate to escape him. Nothing shocks her more than seeing Danny again and realizing that she is still attracted to him.
Can these two star crossed lovers find true love or will her obsessive ex keep them apart?
A great story that touches on domestic abuse and obsession.

A Cowboy Like You (Heart of Texas #4) takes the handsome Lone Star sheriff, Danny Oldman, and spotlights his life and ethics. He has lived for his job, looking out for those in this town. No real personal life, no love interest...just being wedded to his position.

It could be due to a young crush on Skylar Long. She caught his eye and when she left their hometown, he sort of shut down.

Skylar left for the big city and thought she had found her one...only to become a possession. The man was obsessive and abusive. She runs from Houston and goes back to where she used to feel safe to hide.

One night Danny is doing his usual night and comes across a woman fleeing a man on the road. This was something that looked serious as she was being physically dragged from her car as she attempted to escape. This was not right and Danny steps in as his position would require. He arrests the man and the woman turns out to be his young crush, Skylar.

We see how evil the man is who doesn't want to give up Skylar; he is wealthy, powerful and will stop at nothing. Danny decides to take matters in his own hands and finds a safe place for Skylar to protect her. What happens next is the rekindling of feelings for both of them.

This story had romance, intrigue, suspense, and all the necessary connections to make it work.

This was my first non-paranormal read from Donna Grant, and I loved it! Skylar and Danny have a great second-chance romance with an origin in high school, and there's also a suspenseful element because Skylar is running from a rich and powerful ex. This is a pageturner both for the lovely reconnection of our heroine and hero but also for the resolution of Matt's obsession with Skylar. Even with knowing this is a romance and the HEA was going to come, I really did feel the tension of Matt's actions.

Heart of Texas #4, Finally Danny Oldman!!! You can always count on Danny to be there to help, he loves helping people and that's one reason he went into law enforcement and became Sheriff. He's played a pivotal role in the last three books now it's time for him to finally get his HEA. I love Donna Grant's Contemporary Western and throw in a bit of suspense and I'm in hog heaven. I inhaled this book from start to finish I did nothing but read this book for the whole day because I could not tear myself away from it.

Danny is dedicated to his job he loves it and the people of his county, but that doesn't stop him from being lonely. Especially since his best friend got to marry the perfect woman and has great kids. Danny has never let go of feelings for the one girl he never asked out in high school. Skylar Long never let anyone get really close no one ever compared to her high school crush. She finally did settle on Matt, a guy she thought was good but she found out after they moved in together that he was psychotic. After the third month she got the courage to leave just getting in her car and driving not realizing she was headed back to her hometown until she crossed the county line. Luck was with Skylar that night not just driving to her hometown like it was a beacon calling her home but because when she finally did stop and Matt caught up with her Danny was right there to witness the initial assault and arrest Matt.

Finally reunited after all those years Danny tries to stay professional but neither Skylar or him are willing to lose another minute apart. Unfortunately Matt comes from a very rich family that will stop at nothing to keep their family name clean even if that means letting their son get away with murder. Lucky for Danny he has the best friends he could ask for and together they will protect Skylar.

Overall, it was a great book. I love the characters, I love the series, I can't wait for the next two books.

Cowboys and love go so well together….

If you haven’t been reading this series than Danny and Skylar will be the start of a happy read-a-thon. This series is home, family and love all wrapped up in cowboys. In other words, reading heaven!

Danny and Skylar are old friends. Years earlier, they wanted different things, in different places. Their reunion was sudden, unexpected and marred by a dangerous situation that Skylar couldn’t get away from. Danny’s protective streak was instantly on high alert and family and friends quickly circled the wagons as well. Skylar didn’t have one friend in town, she quickly had many.
And did she need them!

Their courtship was complicated by the situation but made even sweeter because of it. Danny was everything Skylar needed and their relationship was everything they both deserved… Sweet and emotional, this was a great instalment in a must-read series.

I'm sure this book was difficult to write at times, but was very well written. This book contains scenes of domestic violence and I felt that Ms Grant did a good job of writing on this subject. I appreciate all that was put into A Cowboy Like You and the way that the characters came together for a new/old friend in need. Danny has always been a special character and one I was really looking forward to getting his own book. Ms Grant did not disappoint in her delivery of Danny's story. Thank you, Donna for this story

A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. This one about Danny and Skylar and the journey they take. Skylar having to deal with a violent relationship she finally gets away from but the problems that she still goes through for protection.

A sweet romance with just enough heart without being sappy. This is a good one for cold winter nights.

Skylar is in a abusive relationship and has been trying to get out of it. Thankfully Sheriff Danny got into the middle of an altercation and was able to help her get away from him. Unfortunately the ex isn't taking the hint and resorted to stalking. Now sheriff Danny will do everything he can to help Skylar out when its clear the ex will do whatever he can to get ahold of her.

I loved the suspense of it all. While I love a good contemporary romance I loved getting to see how clearly nuts the ex was. There was so much going against Skylar being that the ex's name was so well known and he was loaded so he can get away with a lot more. I kept wondering when the ex might go past just viewing from the side lines and do something or at least hire some one because clearly he got the money. There was plenty going on to keep the readers hooked and I really enjoyed this book.

A COWBOY LIKE YOU continues the Heart of Texas series with one devoted and lonely sheriff who never expected to see his high school crush again, let alone help keep her safe from an obsessive, abusive ex-boyfriend. Skylar moved away after high school, and maybe the reason Danny’s been single and lonely all this time is that no woman has been able to take Skylar’s place in this cowboy’s heart. The timing was wrong for them, perhaps, but now she’s back and needing protection, now that Danny can provide.

Danny and Skylar’s story is fast-paced, intense, and full of danger. It brings the reality of domestic violence front and center proving once again that anger problems, entitlement issues, and just plain nastiness know no boundaries like rich or poor, powerful or helpless, it only knows the power that comes from rage, immaturity and the need to have their own way even if that way is violence or death to another. As the danger to Skylar and Danny escalates so does the growing attraction between them, feelings that never truly went away only lingered in place waiting for the right timing.

We’ll run into old book friends once again and get a taste of how life is moving on for previous couples – and maybe a glimpse of stories waiting to be told later in the series. I enjoyed A COWBOY LIKE YOU very much. The emotions are high on many levels, the romance touching and sexy, and the danger very real. If you love a good story, Romantic Suspense, and likable, believable characters then you’d love this one or the entire series.

This was my first contemporary Donna Grant novel. I enjoyed the romantic suspense and couldn’t read fast enough to see how things played out. Danny and Skyler were both relatable and likeable people. Their actions and reactions made sense and led to a sexy romance despite all the danger. I only wished that I was more emotionally invested in them. I was glad to have a bad guy that I loved to hate, the kind where you cheer at their downfall. Pure satisfaction. I also enjoyed the people surrounding them and how they interacted with each other. It didn’t have a deep level of camaraderie, but enough to make it fun. It is a nice quick read.

A Cowboy Like You is an entertaining romance. Good plot a well developed characters. I highly recommend this book. I received an arc from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.

Danny is a good ole boy, a sheriff, who doesn't date. He says he's married to his job, but he's lonely and dulls the pain of his job with alcohol.

Skylar has the worst taste in men. She made a terrible mistake with Matt and can't get away from him.

Skylar left Danny after high school.
They say the first cut is the deepest.
Can Danny keep her safe from Matt?

I really liked Matt and wanted him to be in a good place.
Skylar was much harder for me to like because she kept making poor mistakes, even knowing better. She kept repeating the same mistakes.

This book was fabulous. I’m pretty sure that this one is my favorite Cowboy book in this series so far. Danny is the guy that is there for everyone so when the one woman he has always wanted is in trouble he knows that he will do anything to protect her. Skyler never thought that this would be her life but it has brought her back to Danny. Now she just needs to get her ex out of her life. This book is a must read. You don’t want to miss it!

❤️❤️ out of 5
The way I rate a book is purely based on my enjoyment levels and for that reason alone this book fell short. I didn’t enjoy the horrors of domestic violence and the unfairness of the personal judgements and legal proceedings.

Our heroine is escaping her abusive partner when the town sheriff intervened and arrests her boyfriend. The sheriff (our hero) has had a crush on the heroine since high school but they fell out of touch when she moved to the city. Now they finally have a chance to be together although the heroine’s life is being torn apart by her previous relationship.

To be honest I didn’t mind the hero and heroine and their relationship even though it felt too insta-lovey and weird (and kind of inappropriate) timing. But between random people becoming the heroine’s friend overnight and the legal proceedings it just wasn’t an enjoyable read for me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I just LOVED this book. Danny has appeared in all of the books in this series and we finally get to read his HEA. Danny is at odds with his life. He loves his job as sheriff but he pictured a wife and maybe a child or two by now. Unfortunately the girl that he liked in high school left for the big city of Houston right after graduation. Danny gets some dinner but doesn't want to eat at home nor sitting down in a restaurant. He decides to eat his dinner at a rest stop that he enjoys the views from. A sports car comes into the rest stop and is shortly followed by another. The driver of the second car gets out and assaults the driver of the first vehicle. It turns out that the driver in the sports car is none other than the girl from high school, Skylar Long.

The rest of the story is one that is filled with intrigue and suspense. We get to see the prior characters return here and help Skylar and Danny. I loved how the book not only was written in the dual POV that I favor, but also it included Matt's, Skylar's abusive ex-boyfriend now stalker.

I was a little disappointed in Skylar's character. She seemed to entered into sexual relationships rather easily in her life in Houston. I don't approve of that normally and I wished her character was a little different. Having sex between Danny and Skylar as soon as it was, was a little too much for me but it didn't affect how I adored the story. I was glued to my e-reader to hurry and see what was going to happen next. Unfortunately for me, that also leads to the conclusion of the story.

There are several scenes that may not be appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. There are some sexy scenes between Danny and Skylar as well as a scene of violence.

While this book could be read as a stand-alone, I highly encourage to start at the beginning. Seeing the relationships develop with all of the characters really will help to show the dedication and loyalty that these characters have for each other.

I look forward to several more stories in this series. There are a few more men that needs a HEA for me to read about.
