Skylar never thought her life would lead her back to her home town, but that exactly where she was headed when her life with her boyfriend took a frightening turn. She also never expected Danny to be the one to save her. All of a sudden it's like time never passed and all she can see is him. The Sheriff. The boy who was everyone's friend. Who would help anyone in need. Now it seems it's her turn, and she definitely needs help.
Danny never expected his evening would end with saving Skylar from her crazy boyfriend. He never expected to see her again. It's like she never left. Neither did his feelings for her. He would do anything to keep her safe. Even asking his friends for help. Every day with her makes it harder to ignore his feelings, it would only make things with her ex harder. Knowing she feels it too makes it impossible.
Her ex however will not give up easily, neither will his family. So keeping Skylar safe is all he can think about. He will not stop until she is free of het past, until her future is all she has to think about.
Another great story full of wonderful people and Cowboys who will do anything to protect the ones they love.
This book grabbed my attention and held it. Skylar on escaping her abusive partner finds herself back in her hometown and relying on an old school friend, now a Sheriff to keep her safe from her ex who has no intention of letting her go. This book has a bit of everything; friendships, romance and suspense.
Though I have given this 5 stars I would however have liked to know whether the Gaudet family were ever prosecuted and I don’t understand the book title as Danny is in law enforcement.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4 1/2 stars. Absolutely loving this series so far. This is an awesome second chance romance about Danny and Skylar. Add in some suspense, a gorgeous setting in a small town, and great secondary characters and you have yourself a winner. I loved it!!
4.25⭐
A Cowboy Like You, was an extremely enjoyable and engaging story. That pulled me in from the start. Thanks to a strong, plausible plot line, likable characters and a few edge of your seat moments. Not to mention a sweet romance that although a little rushed was still very pleasing to read. And with a small town setting, some nice secondary characters, and a lovely mix of real life issues, drama and suspense. I was easily hooked and would therefore happily recommend it to others.
I enjoyed this book. It had a great mix of intrigue, romance, & fun to keep me turning the pages. The setting is beautiful & makes me want to go to a ranch someday. I like the concept of unknown high school love that got away coming back to her hometown & finding that love again. The abusive boyfriend is the right amount of charming & scary. I think this topic is handled very well. I was glad to come back to the Heart of Texas series. Highly recommend this book.
This is another great read in this amazing series. This is Danny and Skylar's story. They were wonderful characters with great chemistry. I also loved catching up with the wonderful characters from previous books. This book pulled me in from the beginning and kept me turning the pages until the end. It was a fast-paced read full of suspense and danger. I can't wait to read the next book and I would definitely recommend this book and this series.
A Cowboy Like You is the fourth book in the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant and can easily be read as a standalone. A cowboy romance with a hint of suspense that is sure to keep you second guessing until the end. Fall in love with this small town romance that as all the feels of a real life romance and true to life drama. A Cowboy Like You is full of intense drama, wild action, suspense, and a wonderful second chance in love.
A Cowboy Like You (Heart of Texas #4) by Donna Grant ....Each book gets better...they can be read as a stand alone...but I suggest you read them all. Donna gives us all the feels...love, possession, found again love, hate, terror, wonderful friendships, some laughs and tears, kidnapping, brute force, loyalty, bravery, some steam all leading to a very HEA. Donny(the sheriff and high school crush) Skylar( running from an abusive boyfriend) I can't wait for the next book. Thank you Donna Grant for letting me preview and rate this book.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:

I know that I have mentioned this before, but cowboy romances are one of my guilty pleasures. There is just something about a cowboy that gets me. It might be the jeans or the fact that they are (usually) not talkative. Whatever it is, I love reading them. So when I saw A Cowboy Like You was up for review on NetGalley, I knew that I had to read it. While I am glad that I read it, I was left wanting with this book.
The plotline for A Cowboy Like You was fast-paced. While I like fast-paced plotlines, there are times where I think that they can go too fast. And this is one of them. I felt that some of the major plotlines were rushed along. I also had an issue with dropped plotlines. The slashed tires sub plotline was one. What happened to her afterward? Maybe I missed it (quite possible). She went to jail and bam, nothing about her ever again. Or the hacking subplot. It was never finished and left me wondering what happened with that.
I did like Skylar, and I sympathized with her. The author painted a realistic picture of a woman who was trying to leave her abusive boyfriend. My heart broke for her during those first few chapters. All she wanted was to leave; she didn’t ask for anything that Matt put her through. Her inner strength did show when Matt’s family started their smear campaign in the media. All over a restraining order. I did understand why she wanted to leave the ranch, but at the same time, I was mentally urging her to stay on it.
I loved Danny, even if he was a little disillusioned with his job. I get it. There is only so much that he could do when it came to domestic violence situations. I also understood why he got involved with Skylar’s case. As the book went on, I was impressed with how far he would go to protect Skylar.
I wanted to drop kick Matt. Every single scene he was in, he left a bad taste in my mouth. He needed someone to beat him down the way that he hit Skylar and the woman before her. His family was no different. They gave me chills also.
The romance between Danny and Skylar didn’t feel right to me at first. It was too fast, and so soon after her last relationship. Because of that, I didn’t feel any romantic connection between them. But, the sex scenes were hot!!
A Cowboy Like You is the 4th book in the Heart of Texas series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. But, I suggest reading the previous books before this one. That way, you can better understand the backgrounds of the other characters.
The end of the book was intense. But it was rushed. While I was glad about everything that happened, I couldn’t quite believe it, even with the epilogue. As I said, everything was rushed. I am interested to see how the next book is going to be about.
A Cowboy Like You is a wonderful read. You will just love this one. Danny is this hometown sheriff that will make you heart melt. I love how he stops at nothing to protect Skylar. I love how he is with the town people and all his friends. This is a wonderful small town romance with that hint of danger in the air. Skylar is just trying to escape and move on with her life. She is so strong and doesn't let her ex stop her from moving on. Skylar and Danny have this amazing chemistry throughout this one. This is such a sweet read that will fill your heart to the fullest.
Welcome back to Baxter County where the alpha men are hot. County Sheriff Danny Oldman is in a rut. He works all the time. Sure he has friends but sometimes he wishes for the one special person to share his life with. Now the women who have married these men are not wilting flowers. Skylar Long is on the run. She is trying to get away from her abusive boyfriend. She stops at the one spot where the sheriff likes to relax. As her boyfriend tries to physically assault her, the sheriff arrests him. When he sees who it is, he realizes she was the one who got away. Skylar has always walked to her own beat. She likes her independence. Little does she know that it is all about to change. Danny is trying to keep her safe and stay away from her. Old feelings are there but the time is not right. Skylar has other ideas. When it comes to down to who protects whom, they both win.
A second chance with their crushes…
This is the fourth book in the Heart of Texas series that can be read as a stand-alone.
Escaping an abusive relationship with an obsessive, controlling, boyfriend Skylar Long got in the sleek, red sports car that she proudly owned and drove with no destination in mind, the only goal to travel as much distance from Houston, Texas as possible. Her psyche sent her toward her childhood hometown, the place she’d felt safe growing up. Feeling justifiably paranoid and seeing headlights following her she pulls into a rest stop which has one other car parked nearby to then find herself confronted by the very man she’d tried to elude who had indeed been following her. She did not leave unprepared for such an eventuality but how it will play out will now be determined. Can she take that drastic step?
Not in a mood to join friends for a family meal Sheriff Danny Oldman picks up some food and takes it to his favorite scenic spot. He’s not there long before he witnesses what’s an obvious domestic disturbance between motorists who pulled in together in separate vehicles. He’s seen enough during his professional career to sense that a dangerous level has been reached between the couple and he takes appropriate action. What is unexpected is the identity of the woman, she’s the one he’d been recently thinking of, he never did get over the high school crush he’d had on her. Now that she’s back within his sphere of influence, as an officer of the law, he’ll help her but is there a possibility be more? Fate works in mysterious ways and this lonesome sheriff married to his work has just gotten a dose of hope.
That the heroine was mortified to realize who had seen the humiliation of her bad relationship was not surprising and it was interesting how she’d also had a crush on him when they were younger. This story was a second chance romance for two who hadn’t managed to find a lasting connection in the years that had passed. The characters were likable enough, flawed human beings, the storyline though predictable at times was fast-paced with some violent action and suspense. This story deals with domestic abuse which may be a trigger for some readers. I felt that the romance wasn’t very realistic considering the heroine’s situation, someone coming off of a bad relationship isn’t going to want to enter another relationship so quickly or so easily, the psychological trauma was not dealt with.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.
I liked the story, it seemed also pedagogic in a way. I appreciate the stand that the author takes in regard of abused women, I found it enlightened.
Mi é piaciuta la storia e la posizione che l'autrice prende nei confronti delle donne abusate, mi é sembrata molto illulminata, specialmente di questi tempi...
THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
A Cowboy Like You is the fourth book in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series. Sheriff Danny Oldman is dedicated to his job but his good friend Clayton East sees a lonely man. Although like a family member to the East-Harper families, Danny stays to himself more often than not, which brings him to one of his favorite views to eat a carry out dinner.
While eating he sees a fancy red car parked yet running near him. Then appears another such car which parks next to the first. A man exits the car and approaches the red car. Words ensue, with the man’s anger escalating. In his anger, he smashes the driver side window and starts pulling a woman out of the window. His dinner forgotten, Sheriff Oldman draws his sidearm and orders the man to stand down. Calling for backup, the sheriff takes the man into custody before realizing that the woman under attack is his one that got away, Skyler Long. Skyler and Danny had attended high school together. She seemed so far out of his realm, Danny had missed any chance he might have had when she left Lone Star, never to return until now.
But Danny has no time to think about old times, Skyler is a woman that needs protection from a brutal boyfriend who is from a powerful family. Bring in the East-Harper family and they all pull together to protect Skyler.
This is a dynamic and very time relevant tale. It explores multiple aspects of an abusive relationship and how difficult it can be to get away from it. Plus, this story delves into the personality of a sadistic narcissist. It is fast paced and a real page turner with an endearing cast of characters. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it
Dinca’s review of A Cowboy Like You (Heart of Texas, Book 4) by Donna Grant
Contemporary Western Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 26 Nov 19
Danny Oldman is truly a heartthrob. He was defiantly in the right spot at the right time to save Skylar Long, his old high school flame, the one who got away and is now back in his life and under his protection. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s too good a story to pass up.
Skylar returns to her hometown to escape an abusive boyfriend and finds a loyal community of protection she did not count on. Her old high school crush is now the sheriff and saves her from being abused again. He then rushes her off to a ranch where she will find community support in her time of need.
Danny can’t believe he has another chance to get to know Skylar. He falls hard and fast, but his job is getting in the way. He has to think of her protection first. The rich, abusive boyfriend is playing hardball. His family is trying to avoid a scandal and making Skylar and him the bad guys. The story is loaded with plot twists.
It’s a very intriguing storyline with a HEA that you will cheer for all along the way. I will need to go back and read books 1-3 in the series. It’s that good. Ms. Grant tells an excellent tale.
Grade: A
I’m adding another author to my list of books to buy!
Sherriff Danny Oldman was at the rest stop outside of town while eating his supper when a vehicle pulled up that didn’t belong and then another sports car pulled p and he figured that it was a domestic dispute when the guy broke the window and tried to pull the driver out of the car. Matt Gaudet was arrested for assaulting Skylar Long and thrown in jail but Danny knew something was up when his lawyer came in by helicopter. Matt had told Skylar his parents were dead but it was all a lie. Skylar Long just wants to get away from her abusive boyfriend when she stopped at the rest stop near her hometown and he was arrested. She knew that Matt would never leave her alone after beating her up many times bur she found out Danny who she knew in high school and his friends would help protect her from Matt after Danny convinced her they were good people.
A Cowboy Like You is the fourth book in the Heart of Texas series and I now have to add the other books by Donna Grant to my list of books to buy because I want to read the stories of the other friends of Danny’s.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Terrific romantic suspense story.
Danny is in the right place at the right time to rescue a woman being pursued by her violent ex, and he's stunned to see Skylar, the girl from his youth that he never got over. The story is centered around all the good people in town banding together to protect Skylar from the evil-incarnate ex, whose unlimited resources and politically-connected family allows him to keep the pressure on her from all angles.
In the few breaks from the action, Danny and Skylar reconnect and find that now is their best time to make a go of their relationship. All the suspense and tension is confined to the attempts to bring the ex to justice, making Danny and Skylar's romance smooth-sailing by comparison. There's an exciting showdown followed by a lovely HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
After my first Cowboy book from Donna Grant (My Favorite Cowboy) I was very happy to see a new book in the Heart of Texas Series. This one is about Danny, the sheriff of the other books. He has been a loner for quite some time and Caleb and Brice keep hinting that it would be good for him to have a girlfriend. But Danny got his heart broken once, so he isn't about to start a new relationship.
When he breaks up a domestic violence act, he is shocked that the woman in this case is Skylar, the girl who broke his heart in high school. Skylar was on the run from her abusive ex-boyfriend. After having lived away for years, so now is back and Danny offers to hide her at Easton Ranch at the Harper family. Because Matt, Skylar's ex is a vindictive and very rich and influential politician.
A fast paced action, with a lot of suspense, sparks flying and of course the Donna Grant happily ever after. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc. And I'll be keeping my eye on next books in this series to come.
A Cowboy Like You, by Donna Grant, is the 4th book in the Heart Of Texas series, was excellent. The plot behind the story was great and well told. I immensely relished reading about Danny and Skylar. Both characters were strong, though the drama that Skylar brought to the story didn't betray her as such.
A Cowboy Like You one of the best Contemporary romance I read this read, I highly recommend this novel.
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. A Cowboy Like You is the fourth book in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series. It can be read as a stand-alone as I have not read the other books in the series and did not find that I felt I was missing anything. This is a second chance at love story. Sherrif Danny Oldman has never gotten over his high school crush Skylar Long so when a chance meeting allows him to rescue her from her abusive boyfriend he is delighted to find that she too had an unrequited crush on him back in high school. I was a bit disappointed that the characters had several TSTL moments and thought that instead of hopping into a sexual relationship immediately a slow burn would have been more effective. I feel that I must give a content warning for brutal violence as well so I can’t say that this book was one that I would recommend. Medium Steam. Publishing Date November 26, 2019
