Sorry, I just realized I hadn't reviewed this book. It is out of print now, so I'm too late to provide any useful information.

While the illustrations are lovely and I love that the author gives all profits to charity, this is a message that has to be delivered very carefully. The premise is that a bird eats too much and gets too fat to fly south when all his friends do. First of all, that's not really how birds work. Birds are supposed to fatten themselves up and they need massive calories to either stay and face the cold or migrate. But looking past the bad science here, kids are a lot more clever than we think and basically fat shaming them and preaching to them about birds who are fat because they are lazy and make bad choices and then have awful consequences is not going to help kids actually improve their lifestyles and get any healthier. There's a nice goal here, but the execution is sad.
