A very well written instruction book on drawing.
Learn How to Draw for the Non-Artist is detailed and easy to follow instructions that will have you drawing in no time. Great book and one I highly recommend.
I love drawing books! My renderings never turn out quite like they should look, but they look much better than they would otherwise! This book is nice in that it is aimed at a non-artist -- that is, a rank beginner!
So, 2019 was the year of me trying to improve my drawing skills. There are many books out there, and it's a little overwhelming. This artist's style wasn't my favorite as he leans toward superheroes, and sometimes the perspective felt a little off on some pictures, but it did inspire me to move outside my comfort zone a bit. There isn't a ton of text, but the author writes like he's cheering you on.
The book is pretty cheesy but I think kids would find it fun. I wouldn’t call it a serious tutorial on how to draw but if your looking for a confident booster and a basic place to start with the intent of just having fun with it. Well then you may enjoy it. It doesn’t really have true tutorials just basics you can pick up from any art book. As II said I feel it should be a beginner children’s book with the understanding it isn’t a learning tool. I feel it was a fun attempt and it fits the description perfectly for art for the Non-artist. I wouldn’t judge it too harshly for the fact it clearly shows pictures not depicted true to life or in a realistic manner and by that and the name you can clearly see what to expect on the inside. You don’t have to be amazing to have fun drawing and this book shows that. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
This book achieves its main purpose: it offers a non-intimidating overview of basic drawing principles. That said, the resulting drawings also look quite basic and I wonder if a beginner would truly need this book to achieve similar results. The book is truthful in its title: it is for the non-artist. Budding artists, practicing artists, and prolific artists should search elsewhere.
Thank you to NetGalley for the Advanced Reader's Copy of this book. I received this in exchange for my honest review. Seriously, as a self taught artist, I would NEVEr invest my money into this book, It appears a 5 yo put this together.
This is quite a good book, but I think there should be more steps in some of the drawings if it is aimed at non-artists. The drawings are quite rough and ready and some reminded me of drawings done on an old etch-a-sketch. There are not many words which is actually a good thing and there is a lot of variety in the projects. I think the people section needed more steps and explanations though. Overall though a good basic introduction.
