A quick, easy to read etiquette guide for that most awkward topic - death. Humans haven't quite evolved enough to talk about difficult subjects with ease but hopefully books like this will help break down some barriers.

Written in a question and answer style, the book covers everything from green, home, humanistic funerals to who can be buried in veterans cemeteries. What’s the difference between obituaries and death notices, caskets and coffins. A large percentage of us believe in writing a will or filling out advanced directives but precious few of us actually have. What are the pros and cons of arranging and paying for funerals and burials. Have you heard of death cafes and death doualas? If someone emails you condolences, are you obliged to send a written acknowledgment? What are the basic things to expect and to do when attending a religious funeral of a faith other than yours?

There are several links to online resources provided and directions for when you might need to check with to see what is or is not allowed per state or federal agency. The book is aimed at US residents but many of the issues, questions, and dilemmas answered are applicable internationally. I already have a will written but after finishing “Do I Have to Wear Black to a Funeral,” (and the answer is no but you can’t go wrong to dress conservatively) I know I need to get a few more things wrapped up and taken care of. Do I have to wear black to a Funeral by Florence Issacs is an informative book on the ettiquette of death and funerals.

I found this book interesting although its based more on US rather that the UK market.

Being Death Positive its a great book for conversation starters for families about plans for after death.

Thanks to Netgalley and WW Norton Company for the ARC. My review is my own opinion.

I picked this book expecting it to be a funny book about faux pax, but it is what it says, etiquette. Please don't be put off by this!! It is an easy read full of very helpful information. It is not overstated or extremely detailed, just short, precise and to the point of guidelines for funeral situations. With todays society this book really highlights how to error on which side of things and how to make a horrible situation doable.

I received this advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

An interesting etiquette guide. I was expecting something somewhat humorous but this is very dry and serious. Still an interesting weird.
