When the world is going 100 miles an hour and you are overwhelmed by both exterior and interior expectations, it can be hard to find true rest and peace. Jennie has written an amazing book to help you get out of your own head and adjust your perspective on your circumstances and your surroundings. Some of the tools in her book have already helped me to put a pause on the spiral and look objectively at what's really happening in that moment. I recommend this book to anyone who is quick to self-judge, often finds themselves with a negative outlook, or just needs some mentoring on how to create space for the Lord to speak truth.

This was an awesome read! Jennie Allen's writing style is easy to keep up with, engaging and personable. I really enjoyed her way of communicating. The way she mingled neuroscience with the truth of the Bible and life experience when it comes to our thought lives was very powerful and impactful. This book was practical and deep at the same time - and I believe it would be helpful to anyone who struggles with "getting out of their head."

I have been battling an anxiety disorder for 16 years. I found this book to be insightful, encouraging, compassionate and motivating. I've known all along that reading my Bible and spending quiet time with Jesus is the best medicine. But I've been stubborn. Jennie enourages us to lay down our entanglements and to learn to trust God again..to spend quiet time reading God's Word. She teaches how to stop the spiral of negative thoughts and choose gratitude and positivity. I appreciated her openness as she shared her own struggles and her season in the darkness. You have a choice. If you have been struggling I hope you choose to read this book.

Thank you Net Galley and Waterbrook for the free copy of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Allen wrote this book in response to her own 18 month struggle with toxic thoughts that made her question her faith and everything about her relationship with Jesus. Like all of Allen's books, she expresses herself courageously and directly which I always enjoy. She provides a practical and informed perspective on Scripture too.

The book starts reflecting on one of my favourite verses from Romans 12:2 - "Be transformed by the renewal of your mind". This is what Jesus desires for us when we enter into relationship with Him. It's only through a mind transformation that we can become more like Him and lead a life to His glory.

The book is split into three sections:

1. All the Thoughts - this is a series of chapters on the various ways we get imprisoned by our thoughts
2. Taking Down the Enemies of Our Minds - this provides practical solutions to stopping the thoughts
3. Thinking as Jesus Thinks - 2 short chapters on validating our identity in Christ and using Scripture to transform the negative thoughts.

There were some really good sections (Chapter 12 was a personal favourite). I found some of the real life examples Allen used were a bit weak in illustrating some of her points and I thought there could have been a bit more substance to Section 3.

This is a very timely and important book that will, I'm sure, help many people (Men and women) to lean in closer to Jesus to allow the Holy Spirit to do His work in transforming our minds.

I LOVE Jennie Allen books! They are approachable and this one is no different. I think it's a slightly different style than her other ones, but the message is culturally relevant & something that pretty much everyone can relate to. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book- I truly recommend it!

Once again, Jennie Allen knocks it out of the park. Her thoughtful wisdom coupled with sisterly encouragement makes you ready to get out of your head and get to work. This book is for anyone who struggles with overthinking.

I have read several of Jennie Allen's books and think she does a great job here of addressing negative thought patterns both as they relate to science and how to combine them with Scripture. If you are not a Christian this may not be something you want to read as it is specifically written for Christians.with many New Testament references.

Get out of Your Head is a much needed book in this day and age in our society. Jennie Allen does an excellent job dealing with the topic of our thought life and how those thoughts play out in things like anxiety and depression. Mental and emotional health have been such taboo topics to talk about and write about in the past so I appreciate her venturing into those areas. I was grateful for her transparency about her own battles with toxic thoughts and her practical advice to battling the toxic thoughts in our own lives.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This . . . THIS . . . is the very book I needed but did not know I needed. Until I read it. And now I cannot get this book out of my head. And that’s a good thing. Because the evil one is out to enslave our thoughts.

With real-life examples, Jennie Allen illustrates how calling upon the power of Christ can bring a halt to the havoc caused by downward spiraling thoughts and transform our lives.

Get Out of Your Head offers practical, backed-by-science, and I-really-can-do-this-today advice that is already making a difference in my thought life. Thank you, Jennie!

Get Out of Your Head is an invitation to boldly approach the thoughts that hold us captive. A valuable companion for championing anxious and toxic thoughts, in light of the gospel. Something we should all ready, whether we really "want" to or not. It's worth it!

Based on Scripture, personal experience, and her studies of the brain, Jennie shows readers that how you think = how you live. And how you think CAN change. It is possible!

This book is... Life challenging. Life encouraging. Life-affirming. Life changing.

Blending story with scripture, the author does an excellent job at exploring the things we can do to damage our outlook and our witness. Focusing on things like humility, service, quiet, etc. she reminds readers about what it takes to have the mind of Christ. This book would work well as a workbook, underlining and trying the various exercises shared throughout.

When a chance to join Jennie Allen’s newest book launch team came across my emails, I jumped at the opportunity. Jennie Allen is the founder of IF:Gathering, where ladies get together to spend time in the Word. She is also an author and podcaster and wife of a pastor. I have several of Jennie Allen’s books and strangely, this newest book, Get Out of Your Head, is the only one I’ve finished!

This book is full of amazing advice to stop the toxic thoughts from spiraling in your head. Jennie Allen walks readers through personal experiences as well as interactions with family and friends. She also brings stories she’s helped others walk through. It’s these relatable connections that makes Get Out of Your Head such a great read!

Jennie Allen combines these great suggestions and thought processes with scripture and the importance to live for Christ. She brings perspectives to these situations that I personally would never have thought of. I especially sense that she is so gentle in the manner she expresses her ideas.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided in exchange for a review. It was my pleasure to read this book as it is helping me grow as an individual and my interactions with others. I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras. I highly recommend everyone to read this book!

I’ve struggled with negative thoughts that quickly send me down a rabbit hole and leave me feeling so down I can barely come up for air. This spiral often takes me to a dark place I’m never quite certain how to get out of.

Due to this struggle, I’ve read so many books geared toward stopping the negative thoughts cycle and thinking positively, yet the cycle continued. Then I read Get Out of Your Head by Jennie Allen. She’s been my favorite author for years and I’ve read nearly everything she’s written but this was so different! Right from the start she’s upfront about her own personal struggles and dark times. I instantly felt like I wasn’t alone. She provides tools in these pages that don’t just tell you how to think differently but explain why it’s so hard and help you work through it to a place of true transformation.

i never thought I could really gain control over my thoughts or implement these tools but I am! This book is nothing less than life changing and I personally think every single person young and old desperately needs this! I’ve been changed and I know others will be too! I’m even hosting my first ever book club, something I never thought I could do. This book draws on scripture to bring so much truth and light to something we all struggle with. I recommend reading as soon as possible and soaking it all in!

Paul instructs us to “Take every thought captive.” It is not a mere suggestion but a requirement for us because if we do not, we fill our minds with toxic thoughts. Once we begin filing our minds with toxic thoughts, we are no longer to live in the freedom God has created for us. We no longer look or act as if we are the light. Jennie Allen uses her own experience to help the reader demolish strongholds and retrain our minds. We have a choice to continue to believe the lie or walk in the truth. Using scientific research and the Bible, Jennie reveals some choices we can make in our thinking. I was grateful for the easy read with scripture and authenticity. I felt like I was sitting down with Jennie Allen as she was sharing her story and welcoming me to tear down the strongholds in my life without judgement or comparison. I am anxious to share the book with others including my daughter and husband.

I really enjoyed the balance between the science behind spiraling thoughts and the Christian perspective on how to deal with them. Also, I enjoyed how she reiterated that some thoughts are hormonal and should be treated with medicine. I liked the way the book was broken up into sections where there was the problem and then the biblical principle to go with it and how to change your thinking. I definitely will be recommending this to my church and other friends.
