i did really like this volume, however when i picked it up i wasn't aware it was vol 3 so i was thrown into a story with no background.
i wish there was more of jack + sally but zero did provide a lovely story to follow.
i enjoyed watching the mischief unfold and santa trying to teach them good/naughty, rather than just giving into the idea of fun without a thought into what happens after.
it ends on a cliffhanger which i wasn't a fan of and generally i think it read younger than what i expected too.
When Jack Skellington's faithful pet Zero gets lost, the ghost pup must get the help of the residents of Christmas Town to find his way back. With Halloween plans on hold while Jack mounts a search, will they be reunited in time to save both holidays? Explore the magical realms of Halloween Town and Christmas Town through the eyes of Zero as he tries to find his way home in an unfamiliar world. This is volume 3 of the series.
I feel like this story is more for someone in the realm of 12-17, so I feel a little out of sorts. I would definitely tell my nieces about the book or even my daughter but for myself i just couldn't get into the book. Which is not anything to do with the book just simply my age in comparison.
You wouldn't think a quirky musical world like Nightmare Before Christmas would translate well into comic book format, but it actually works quite well. The writers capture that darkly comic yet joyous tone, the character motivations, and even alternate between dialogue scenes and moments where characters break into song and dance, Alltold, a faithful and entertaining spin-off from the movie..
A short story based on the original The Nightmare Before Christmas. The art has a similar style to Tim Burton but not exact and unlike the original work Sally from the movie is included.
I enjoined this manga which is inevitably going to show us the difference between good and bad. I had no difficulty in following the story though I have not read the previous two parts.
I can appreciate how we all ready see that those who are considered good can do bad and those considered bad can do good.
Easy to follow and not overtly filled with text. As I read I could hear the characters voices.
I look forward to reading the next one.
Some things you just gotta love! And one of those things is Disney’s & Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas. I’ve lost count, so many times I have seen this movie. And so the excitement when I saw this Graphic Novel was huge! And how lovely it was.
For lovers of The Nightmare Before Christmas this Graphic Novel will be fantastic. It’s the 3rd part in a series about Jack’s ghostdog Zero. When he is lost it makes Jack really sad and he just has to find him. He will go on his way to find Zero and see what happens at the Northpole.
An exciting Manga that makes you love the well-known characters even more! With beautiful illustrations, completely in style as you may expect. The only minor dissapointment is that there’s not really an ending tot his story. And so you have to wait for the next part to find out how thing will finish. Let’s hope the makers will not let us wait to long.
Oh my goodness this was so cute. I love being able to go back to Halloween town. The artwork is so good the only thing I didn’t like was that the digital manga starts at the end so I had to go 140 pages back to be able to start reading it was very inconvenient but as that shouldn’t be an issue with a physical copy it is kind of irrelevant I suppose.
A fun story for those who like the film and like zero and the 3 kids. A fun journey into Santa's toy factory with the elves and Santa himself.
'Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero's Journey Book Three' by D.J. Milky is a collection of the ongoing manga series about Jack Skellington's pet.
Zero is in Christmas Town and wants to get back home before he is discovered. Along with him are the three troublemakers Lock, Shock and Barrel. Things are going ok until a large bossy elf shows up and starts ordering everyone around. Zero and company are saved by a dinner invitation by Santa himself.
I loved the art and the fact that it was in full color. I think this works better in a full story arc than in reading this as a stand alone volume. It's nice to see these characters continue in adventures that seem to ring true to the original film.
I received a review copy of this manga from Tokyopop, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manga.
I received this arc from Netgalley and was thrilled! Such a great read for fans of Nightmare Before Christmas! I read it myself and then to my 3 year old and she loves all the characters and the amazing detail in the art. Will definitely read more!

As a woman who is OBSESSED with anything Nightmare Before Christmas related, this was absolutely adorable. I absolutely love Tim Burton's classic. It's a timeless film that is beloved by many for years and transcends generations. This manga edition of Zero's adventures just adds to the love I have for the cast of characters to come from the Nightmare Before Christmas world. The art is beautiful and holds true to Tim Burton's iconic style. I feel as if the manga are clearly directed at the younger generation, but can also be enjoyed by those of us that grew up watching the film throughout our childhood (obsessively in my case!).
I had a lot of fun reading this graphic novel. In it we get to see a different side of Christmas Town, one that it isn’t always as jolly as it was in the movie. Lock, Shock and Barrel have joined Zero on this leg of his journey and naturally end up causing a bit of mischief along the way. Yet when something strange happens to them it looks like only he can help them snap out of it. As this chapter came to a close it looked like he was no closer to getting back home. If you liked this movie then this is a graphic novel you will want to read.
Never have I read a book so fast the art is amazing first manga ever and I loved it! The emotions shown through the characters was delightful and the writing coincided. I need to go back now and read the first books.
Zero gets lost and in volume 3 he is in Christmas Town. Lock, Shock, and Barrel are with him and Zero tries to get Santa to give them a chance. The art is adorable and looks great. It is a fun story that focuses on Zero. I can't wait to see where the story goes next. My students will love this title.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this early.
This did not affect my rating.
*3/5*
As a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan, I thought I would love this. Sadly, it just missed the mark.
The art is beautiful, but the story was just okay.

PROS
It's always nice to find new Disney contents to read, specially on the Comic Book section. I love TNBC and I knew I had to read this story as soon as I saw it. I loved the art, illustrations and the fact that it was in colors and not black and white.
CONS
Unfortunately, I started at volume three and the story feels a little shallow. Also, it was such a short volume, I don't really understand why dividing the story in so many volumes.
COVER ANALYSIS
The cover was what attracted me to read this book, as it was too cute!
RECOMMENDED FOR
Disney, Comics and Short Book lovers!
This manga of The Nightmare Before Christmas is clearly meant for a younger audience, but it's still entertaining for adult fans of the cult classic film. Even though the story is presented in the manga format, the art maintains enough similarities with each character's original appearance that no one looks odd or out of place. It's really a mashup of the traditional and manga style, which works quite well.
The story itself doesn't have a whole lot going on other than Santa's elves being threatened by a cruel taskmaster, along with Zero, Lock, Shock, and Barrel getting stuck inside the elf toy factory. This is part of a series showing Zero's attempt to get home to Jack.
Fans will enjoy the brief appearance of Jack, Sally, the Mayor, etc., but the main focus is definitely on Zero. The ghost dog gets to showcase his intelligence, while also reminding readers how difficult it is to communicate when you don't speak the same language.
Score: 3.5 stars.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.
This is absolutely a cute read. I love how this was turned into a graphic novel and manga style. The illustrations were fabulous and very creative. Try detailed. The story was easy to follow even when there were just illustrations shown. I like how it varied from the original Nightmare. Before Christmas. I really enjoyed how Lock, Shock and Barrell were incorporated and the the story centered around celebrating Christmas and Rudolph and their trying to mess with Christmas again. Santa was quite aggressive though, in my opinion.
I enjoyed this book. The illustrations have great color and are true to the characters. The story it nice and go well with the characters I know from the wonderful movie too. I want to reach the other books that go with the story too so I know more of the story, which is the worst part I don't know how the story started or ended. I need to read the others to find out, but I liked the story I read and it was well done.
My first manga book and i am definitely glad it was this one! I was very happy to see the illustration of how to read Manga in case you are new (like me). It was also cool to see the concept art. I loved the story as I love Nightmare Before Christmas. I look forward to going back to Book 1 and 2.
Zero's lost and Lock, Shock and Barrell are sent off to find him. When the four find themselves in Christmas Town, they must enlist the help of an old friend to find their way home. When the trio's special brand of mischief brings chaos to Santa's workshop, it's going to be a race against the clock to see if they can save both holidays.
In the interest of full disclosure, I will let you know that not only did I receive an eARC from Netgalley and Tokyopop in exchange for an honest review but I didn't know this series even existed, let alone that I would begin in the middle of the saga. There was some amazing artwork here, the style in keeping with Burton's original vision. It was, in fact, the cover art that drew me in even before the idea of spending more time with beloved characters. The pages explode with color and creativity, and I love it for that.
My only complaint is that I felt like there wasn't a lot happening. It was a story that might have been done justice in ten pages. Add to that, it seemed, well, more juvenile than the original story. It is geared toward mid-grade students (I would think that means, like 10-12 year olds?), so I can understand that. For all this, though, I can't be mad. It was beautiful, fun, and still kept this old lady's attention. I will be searching my local bookstore today to see if I can't find the other books in this series. I think I would be happier with the plot if I knew the beginning. For me, this is a three star book- the art alone would carry it, but there is a good (if short) storyline here that I found charming.
On the adult content scale, there's some bullying, and the mischievous trio gets up to some trickery, but it's very tame. I would let a child of any age go through this book, though it seems geared for 10+. Honestly, it hardly rates on my scale at all... maybe a one?
The book comes out October first and I think it's going to be a lot of fun for the young ones getting ready for Halloween
