This was interesting thriller, I'm always a big fan of domestic thrillers, but this one was something else. I enjoyed the way the twists presented themselves for sure. I'd definitely read more from the author
This is the book that keeps on giving with twists and turns until your head is spinning. I am not sure I liked any of the characters, but there were definitely characters I disliked more than others!!
It starts off being one type of thriller, someone is messing with Suzi, she's in disarray as her lover has "ghosted" her, she's moved to the middle of nowhere and she's pregnant. She can't cope with much more. Then we meet her neighbour Nora and we have the introduction of Ellie. How are these 3 women linked?
Well, I worked that out quite quickly. But the prologue was bugging me! As I had no idea how that would fit in. Then we have Suzi on a mission when she finds out the truth about her lover, we have Nora on the mission after the death of her husband and Ellie is finding out about affairs.
It's enough to make your head spin!
I wanted to finish the book so I knew how it would end, but I lost bits when listening to the audiobook and found I wasn't always bothered with what was going on, I think that was evident with how long it took me to get the audiobook to finish. I found it clever with the twists, but I'm not sure how 'credible' some were.
This is a fast paced edge of you seat read that will keep you guessing right up intill the last page this book amazing read
A good plot with lots of twists. Well written and a page turning psychological thriller. Fairly believable characters.
A POV page turner. Suzy has a secret, Nora has a secret. And all of these secrets may lead to murder. The twists here are often and welcome. Writing in POV helps keep things straight. The shocker in the end is worth every intake of breath.
I really wanted to like this but I just could not get on board with it. McGowan writes mostly from three perspectives but I was just so confused as to who was who. I read this quite quickly but I think that was more out of frustration than being engrossed. This was okay and it improved once things were explained but not enough to save the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for an advance copy.
Wow!! I have not read anything by this author before but was very excited to get a galley of this one. Twisty and full of adrenaline. I enjoyed this book very much and will recommend it to friends and be on the look out for future books by Claire McGowan.
***Thanks to Netgalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review*** Sorry I couldn't get my review sooner.
The book was interesting but a little confusing in the beginning with three women's perspectives. As it went on it became easier to follow and you figure out how their stories connect. I would've liked to learn a little more about the last woman Maddy. First time reading this author and would like to read more.
Five absolute stars! This is the first Claire McGowan book I've read & it's started me on a Claire-McGowan-reading-streak. I'm not mad about it either :*) Though I will say The Other Wife holds strong as my favorite. I don't understand reviewer's who don't like a book because the character(s) are unlikeable....Their nastiness keeps me twice as interested, lol. "What will that crazy woman do next?', ha. And you'll not be able to guess with this one. A completely wild ride with twists throughout!
Brilliant! I couldnt guess where this was going, it is so twisty turny! Read in one sitting, phone off the hook and do not disturb on the door!
The Other Wife by Claire McGowan is a multi-layered novel of secrets, deceit, abuse, and plenty of twists, all coming together in a suspenseful read that will have you turning pages late into the night. For me, the buildup was slow but the tension only ratchets up as the story progresses, and patience will be duly rewarded.
Told from the alternating perspectives of three women, Suzi, Elle, and Nora, it is immediately apparent that all is not as it seems in the lives of these three women. Suzi, the most fully fleshed out character, is pregnant and living in fear in a remote cottage where she is the victim of domestic abuse. Nora, coincidentally or not, takes up residence in a cottage of her own across the street, and might just be the salvation that Suzi is seeking. Or will Nora's secrets, in fact, be the undoing of them all?
This is a read that picks up steam as it progresses. There are lightbulb moments when individual stories shift into focus, and the twists will have you glad to have stayed the course.
This fast paced psychological thriller will keep you on your toes from the beginning to end. I enjoyed the premise of the novel and that you can really read through this one in one sitting. The only downfall was, to me, it was hard to get all the characters straight, I do feel the plot is predictable, but that doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. Will for sure keep my eye out for more novels by this author
This was an excellent, compulsive psychological thriller that I absolutely could not put down. A real page turner of a book with some fantastic twists and turns. Recommended.
The Other Wife is an intriguing story of different women and the unexpected connection between them. It is hard to describe due to not wanting to give out spoilers.
I didn't like this quite as much as I had hoped but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Claire McGowan and Amazon Publishing Uk for an eARC. My views are my own.

I really enjoyed this thriller and I flew through it in a day. Some of the themes included past trauma, domestic abuse, and a revenge mission. It didn't feel super original or shocking but it was pretty well done. I really liked the secluded autumnal and wintery setting and the contrast when the characters happened to be in a bigger city. Combine that with creepy elements of an old cottage transformed into a smart home and you get a great suspenseful and miserable atmosphere.
One of the plot twists was pretty obvious but I didn't mind that much. I liked that some of the other twists came from character development or looking at things from a different angle rather than suddenly revealing some shocking information. I don't know if the main female characters were meant to be likable or not but I quite liked them and enjoyed reading about them. There was maybe one (1) kind of nice guy. I always appreciate a good "abuse is not just physical abuse" commentary because it's worth repeating.
The book kept me interested the whole time and the ending was pretty satisfactory as well so I'm glad I picked it up and would be interested in other books by this author.
Nice domestic thriller. Loved the way the twists and turns got me. I would recommend this book to everyone. Great writing and a fantastic plot.
I was completely gripped by this story and was impressed with the writing quality. I was entertained throughout the story and would not hesitate to recommend this book.
Unfortunately this one fell a little flat for me. I had problems keeping up with the multiple POV at first because there was so little differentiating between the characters. After the twist, I understood why, however it was fairly predictable. None of the characters were likeable, especially Nick. It did keep my attention long enough to finish the book but a few times I had to debate if it was a DNF.
Really enjoyed this book. Great twists and turns. Couldn't stop reading it. Looking forward to reading more from the author!
