What a good read! It's like watching your favorite soap opera, knowing the characters are going to do something dramatic but then when it happens, you are like....on no!!!
When a small group of people become neighbors, the chances they will find out some not so nice things about each other is a certainty. How the story moves from point A through a whole calendar's worth of shocking events will definitely have you looking for more books by Claire McGowan.

Pregnant Suzi and her manipulative husband Nick move away from London to a remote countryside cottage to save their marriage following an affair in this domestic thriller. Before long recently widowed new neighbour Nora moves into the cottage next door and lonely Suzi is very keen to form a friendship. But Suzi has secrets to hide and so, it would appear, does Nora.
The third main character, Elle, has the perfect marriage, husband, home and life - or has she?
'The Other Wife' is told from the viewpoint of Suzi, Elle and Nora and flashes back and forward in time although it is not hard to keep track of events. There were plenty of twists and turns, some obvious and some I did not see coming at all and although none of the characters were particularly likeable they were very entertaining and certainly held my interest.
Overall, an enjoyable story worthy of 4 stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley UK and publishers for the ARC.

I was expecting more from this domestic thriller but the characters weren't developed very well and the changing points of view was hard to follow.

THE OTHER WIFE by Clare McGowan is a very twisty thriller that I enjoyed very much. Although it was predictable in parts it still kept my attention. I will definitely read more by this author.

I originally didn't think I would finish this book if I am being 100% honest. To me, the book started slow and didn't really hold my interest. However, about 40%-50% of the way through the story took off. Things interesting and secrets started coming out. Although, I do have to say that I saw the big reveal of the neighbor coming a mile away. All in all the last half of the book redeemed itself for the slow start. Stick with it, it's pretty good.

I have read other books by Claire McGowan so I was excited to dive into this one. It did not disappoint. I enjoyed this book in spite of disliking the main characters. Nora has just lost her husband, along with most of their assets. She moves into a remote cottage next-door to a young couple, Suzi and Nick. Nora quickly befriends Suzi but their are secrets on both sides. It was a good thriller with a maybe not so unexpected twist.

Suzi loved her life in London, until one mistake landed her in an isolated house in the country. Determined to make her marriage work, she follows all the rules set by her husband Nick. When Nora moves in next door, she is so happy to have someone she can confide in. Until she realizes Nora might not be who she says she is.
I loved this book! I'm really a sucker for thrillers, and this one was great!

Nothing new here really, except (view spoiler on the Goodreads link), which is what brought it up from 2 to 3 stars. I am really over thrillers heavily involving domestic abuse, though, which is the reason for the low rating. I know I have said that before, but it is tough to tell which ones have that and which ones don't, so I still end up reading a lot of them. On this one I was still curious to know how it ended, so I plowed through. But anyway. On to the next.

It was ok book. For me was very predictable which I didn’t like it . Is very easy to read . But definitely Is a book I would not recommend to another reader.

I feel like it’s a bit repetitive in the “wife mysteries” subgenre, but has its clever moments. 3.5 stars.

Addictive, gripping, and full of shocks and twists that will keep you guessing until the last page. This book was a great read that will leave readers flipping the pages to read more and see what happens next. Full of shocking twists, secrets and revelations, you will devour this book.

I enjoyed reading about the many twists and secrets in this book. No one is who they appear to be, each hiding their own secrets and having something to hide. When Nora and Suzi become friends, we begin to find they have more in common than what we first thought.

I enjoyed how fast paced this book was and how it left you guessing and second guessing what was going on. So many secrets and betrayals that will keep you entertained. And when not one, but TWO deaths occur throughout the story, it adds to the mix of suspense and secrets. Were these deaths accidental or is there something more sinister at plat here?

A great novel that I devoured, and I am sure you will love it too!

Oh my! How do I even begin to review this book? First off I give it 5 stars because this is the most you can give. I would give it 10 stars if that were possible. It is definitely a mystery thriller. And exciting and convoluted and surprising and full of plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. Several times I had to shut the book and just sit back and clear my head before opening it back up again to find out what happened next. I will admit I was a little confused with the characters at the beginning and make a couple notes about each new character until I had read enough to keep them straight. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for something exciting and surprising to read.

Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to read The Other Wife by Claire McGowan!

This is my second McGowan book I've read, and I have to say, she writes in a way that keeps you wanting more!

Suzi, who once had a successful career, social life, and marriage is now living in a cottage out in the country away from society. She's now pregnant, a loner and is in an unhappy marriage with her husband, Nick. She knows Nick shipped her out here with him because of her abundant drinking and the affair she had with a co-worker; but there is no talk of that. Now she is forced to become a housewife and reminisce about her past life; That is until she meets Dr. Sean Sullivan who makes her feel happy again. However, after telling Sean that she's pregnant and he promises her to take care of her, she never sees him again. She doesn't know if the baby is his or Nicks, but all she wants is for Sean to come back in her life. Meanwhile a new neighbor moves in next store, Nora. Nora is someone that Suzi confides in with all her secrets, worries, and fears of her controlling husband Nick. Little does Suzi know, she's confiding in the wrong person. A great book! Edgy, thriller, and exciting! Highly recommend!

This was so fun!

The writing and characters were so good (not good people mind you). How will they all connect?

There were so many twists in this. Some you will see coming if you read a lot of the genre, some you may not. I admit to missing some just due to the sheer volume.

There are way too many coincidences and this does go for broke. That was not problem for me though because it was so entertaining and I couldn’t wait to see how these characters would fare at the end. Great and satisfying conclusion for this girl.

This was fun and clever and I will definitely look for more by this author. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Amazon Publishing UK for a copy in exchange for a review.

This story, it was...something else.

Told from the perspectives of three women: Elle, Nora, and Suzi, The Other Wife is a twisty, domestic suspense relying heavily on plot points seen a million times. Readers will quickly and easily intuit the relationship between the three, and will likely feel underwhelmed by the story overall. Yes, there are a couple mildly surprising twists near the end, but again, it's all been done so many times before, I felt no spark of excitement while reading. Further, nothing felt fleshed out or expanded upon...chunks of plot were doled out like appetizers, but we never really got to the main course. (Sorry for the food analogies...I'm hungry.)

I also have something I need to get off my chest...I loathed Suzi's character. She was a thoughtless, vaguely ignorant airhead, who couldn't responsibly care for a dog. As a mom of four dogs myself, I found her character to be incredibly abhorrent.

I just realized it took me over 2 weeks to read this book. I usually read three books a week. This one just wasn't my jam. (Again with the food!)

Overall, a very average, not at all unique, story.
2.5 stars rounded up
