This book was helpful and enjoyable. I learned so much reading it and will be referring back to it often. The advice was thoughtful and easy to apply to your own life.

Helpful practice and a nice concept, very on trend and necessary.

It wasn’t my favorite, there are so many great books out in this realm and more on the way, but it might work for others!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Shauna starts the book with the story of how she got a metal rod in her spine and how that experience, although negative at the outset, changed her life. She discovered mindfulness and its power to live a different and happier life.

Mindfulness literally means clear sight, which means seeing what is, not what you want to. Mindfulness is not just about what you are paying attention to, it's also about your attitude (of kindness & compassion) and intention. These are the three pillars of mindfulness practice. And because it is a practice, you need to keep practicing.

"What you practice grows stronger"

There is a small section on neuro-plasticity and Shapiro encourages us to practice positive neuroplasticity which means intentionally focusing on areas that are in sync with your intention.

Shauna focuses a lot on self-compassion throughout the book. She mentions various studies and shares examples of her patients who have been able to heal through self-compassion. There is a section here that I loved, instead of paraphrasing her, I would just quote her.

"When faced with adversity, many of us respond in one of the two ways. We either turn on ourselves, our minds filled with self-judgement and shame. Or we try to paper over mistakes with rationalizations and pep-talks intended to boost our self-esteem. These coping strategies don't work because both are defense mechanisms that distract us from the underlying issues."

Here self-compassion works. We become mindful of the issues and have energy to heal them. Shame doesn't work, mindfulness works.

My favorite chapter was 'Six practices for tough times' where Shapiro shares the practices of - acceptance, emotional regulation, shifting perspective, compassion, radical responsibility, and forgiveness.

Each chapter ends with a mindfulness practice and an invitation to write a 'gold nugget' from the chapter to remember and practice later. This worked well.

I would end this review with one of my favorite lines from the book, which was in the very first chapter.

"I knew that despite everything that had happened, and whatever might happen, there was something within me which was indestructible."

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley.

This is such a great book on ways to bring mindfulness to your everyday life. There is such high interest in mindfulness in my library's community, that I will absolutely be buying multiple copies of this for our location. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review.

Yes! Neuroplasticity meets mindfulness. This is the perfect book for those of us who like to know the "why" things work rather than just be told they do. And mindfulness does work, but I feel it's more enriching to know why that is. I don't know, but I get great comfort picturing the biological processes wending their way through my brian.

And then yes, all roads lately lead to self compassion as well they should. We all need to give ourselves -- and each other -- a break.

I gulped this book down very quickly, taking copious notes, and I'm looking forward to re-reading it at a slower and more thoughtful pace.

Good Morning, I Love You by Shauna Shapiro Ph.D. Is a lovely book. This book will teach you the brain science of why you feel the way you do and explains why we get stuck in that type of thinking that we do. Shapiro shows us that acting with kindness and compassion toward ourselves is the key. Each chapter is short and will help you to find peace and joy! I would recommend this book to anyone who struggles with negative thoughts, anxiety or just needs more peace in their life.

I have been taking my time reading this lovely, powerful, and inspiring book about what it means to embrace mindfulness in one’s every day life. The author writes from her heart, gives many relevant examples, and shows us exactly how to bring ourselves more present in our every day lives. The suggestions for activities, journaling, and putting it all into practice at the end of every chapter are especially useful, meaningful, and helpful. I will be using this book throughout 2020 and referring to it often as it has potential to truly change lives.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review

This is a beautiful book that gives a deep and meaningful understanding of mindfulness and how to get the most from it. I loved the science behind it, and found the book much more meaningful and convincing than any other book I've read on the subject. It was easy to read and one of those books that you feel better in yourself just for reading it.

Good Morning, I Love You isn't just another mindfulness book. It shows you how it isn't enough to be present you have to do it with intention and the attitude you have are all part of true mindfulness. This book will show you how to truly be present and live with joy and love yourself. My favorite rxercise is the one the book is named after where every morning you wake up and tell yourself, "Good Morning, I Love You". This is a wonderful book thag I devoured. I can't wait to purchase it when it comes out for myself and friends and family as well.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
