Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It's a good early reader for younger kids on an interesting topic. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
I really love the idea of this STEM series!
I chose to read this with my nephew, 8 years, as he loves to play the Nintendo Switch.
Being a young reader story, nothing was very deep, and the sentence structure was slightly awkward with extremely short, abrupt sentences. This book was aimed at a younger reading age than I realised, so was extremely simple,
I wish there had been more information, especially about the ideas behind the video games and how they are made.
That said, we both enjoyed learning about the creator of Super Mario!
This is the third book that I have read in this series on STEM pioneers. Each entry provides a person's biography, has fun facts and talks about the subject's contribution to STEM. Shigeru Miyamoto is known for his work in games, having come up with favorites such as SuperMario.
There is a section at the back of the book that gives several suggestions for "Career Connections." Some good resources are listed there as well as in the "For More Information" section at the back of the book. The photos also contribute to the reader's understanding of the person profiled.
This is a great series for interesting children in STEM and for showing the wide range of fields included in this broad designation. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for an honest review.
The graphics in the book were a great quality and added to the overall effect of the book. The short sentences that used plain language which is great for an early reader. The facts in the starts or in different text grabs the readers eye and brings more to the page in an unobtrusive way. The advice at the end of the book is a great way for kids to expand on what they just read or to think outside the box.
