It's the first time I've read this author and I will definitely read more of her books! Broken Souls is book 7 in the series and is a solid mystery thriller that is well written and keeps you guessing until the end! It is set in a fictional town called Ragmullin in the Irish Midlands. I find the main character Detective Inspector Lottie Parker very likeable as well as believable. She is just an ordinary person with her own issues.
"Is there ever a good day to die?"
Two women commit suicide but is it really that straightforward? Why were they both dressed in wedding dresses? What happened to the 8 year old girl that went missing? These; and more; are the questions that Lottie will have to figure out as soon as possible. In between she has to juggle problems at home as well as a fiance that seems a bit distant.
I can highly recommend this book and author and find her way of creating atmosphere very good. An fantastic read!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Cara Dunne, a jilted bride is found dead, hanged and wearing her wedding dress with a lock of her hair removed. Later that day, bride to be Fiona Heffernan seems to have jumped to her death from the roof of the hospital where she worked leaving behind her young daughter, Lily. Lily, the love of her life whom she’d never have left.
DI Lottie Parker and the Team need to find out if these woman have committed suicide and why, and if not why they were murdered and by whom. They also need to find who has taken Lily. They have her dad, Fiona’s ex-partner breathing down their neck to find his daughter as well as Lottie’s boss…
Boyd seems to be hiding something and its worrying Lottie. He says he’s fine but she knows better. She’s got the usual ups and downs with her kids and her mother and half brother, who seems to be worming his way into their lives which displeases her a lot.
The race is on to find the killer and there are some surprising twists and turns along the way and other storylines weaved into the story which become clearer as you read on. As ever, brilliant but there is something left hanging that will hopefully will become clearer in the next book.
Another electrifying addition to the Lottie Parker book series! The story begins with a intriguing incident of,is it murder or suicide. Lottie and her team embark on a very unusual case which has you enthralled from the very beginning. This series gets more interesting and enjoyable with every new addition. I am in awe of how Patricia Gibney keeps the new arrivals to the series fresh and imaginative.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book.

Wow. This is a brilliant series. Broken Souls has plenty of action and a really good plot. There are some great characters and a story which kept me gripped right up the end.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
My Rating: 4.5 Stars
Killings are happening and there is a common thread. D.I. Lottie Parker is trying to determine what wedding garb has to do with the bodies that are being found. Then when Lottie discovers that one of the victim's eight-year-old daughter has gone missing, she works feverishly from all angles to find the missing child while solving the murders.
As per usual in this progressive and incredibly effective series, there is a lot to offer readers. There are always the cases Lottie and her team deal with on a regular basis, but the growing pains Lottie and her children, as well as her relationship with her mother, is always a pivotal part of each story. With the crime element of the series, it is a nice bonus that Lottie and Boyd are working on their relationship. I love watching that develop, and that feels very real.
Over this series, readers have come to know Lottie, her children, Boyd and even Lottie's unlikable boss. However, this story is focused on current cases and thus could serve as a standalone. As mentioned already, I read the entire series because I absolutely love continuity.
Lottie has overcome quite a bit as the series has gone, and I loved watching her growth. I feel like I know each of primary characters, and have been strongly affected by all of the trauma they have dealt with. I am already eager for book 8.
Many thanks for Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
"They had to die too. They were breakers of hearts. Breakers of promises."
Two young women are found dead in wedding dresses on the same day. Although both originally are thought to be suicides, it's discovered that they were murdered. Evidence is produced that indicates there may be another linked death that was also ruled a suicide. The weather is awful in December in Ragmullin and DI Lottie Parker and her team have their hands full with a long list of suspects. And, then the 8-year-old daughter of one of the dead women goes missing from her dance school. The police are interviewing everyone connected to the victims and they find evidence of other criminal activity along with way. It appears that everything is connected but Lottie just can't see the case coming together. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, DS Mark Boyd, who proposed to her, is acting strange and Lottie is worried about their relationship. Can the team unravel this twisted crime spree and stop the madness? NO SPOILERS.
I've read this series from the beginning and I'm telling you that poor Lottie just can't catch a break. She loves her family but never seems to get any time to actually spend with them. Her messed up domestic situation is on her mind but nothing improves in her home and between her and her children. Lottie lives for her job and everything else just falls by the wayside as she does not have those critical conversations necessary to sustain close ties. She annoys me to no end and yes, I'd like to sit her down and shake her up a bit before she ruins everything and is left old, sad and alone with just her regrets for company. She's the only really well-developed character in the series and I'd like to get to know the other team members a little better but this book was really focused on the murder cases, the missing child, and a lot of conversations with all the extraneous lot involved.
Of course I'll be looking for the next installment. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-book ARC to read and review.
I am back in Ragmullin with Lottie Parker and her family and not forgetting her partner Boyd who is the only one brave enough to keep her in line. OMG I am officially in reading heaven. As usual Lottie wears many hats in this book and has difficulty wearing one hat at a time. Lottie hates her boss , always being called in for a dressing down, which as she says herself Water off a ducks back. Lottie and Boyd are called to suicide but Lottie is not so sure. Lottie has no clues, her boss is breathing down her neck yet again. Another suicide and now she has a little girl missing as well.
I was hooked from the first page, so many twists and turns. This book kept me guessing, had me gripped Sat on the edge of my seat and tapping my kindle like a demented wood pecker. I had my list of suspects but I still got it wrong. Another fantastic five star read from a very gripping and addictive series which I love. A very happy reader.
I would like to thank the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc.
O WOW what an addictive page turner!! As always Patricia Gibney delivers a fantastic book. I would advise everyone to get stuck into all of her books. You won't be disappointed!! But Broken Souls is particularly brilliant!! And that ending.......no way did I see that one coming!! How many knocks can one person take!! How I cried!!!
This is the seventh bracing novel in the Detective Lottie Parker series and it seems to pose more questions than answers for Lottie, her trusted sidekick Mark Boyd and her loyal, talented and determined team. I’ve read all the books in this series in sequence, but I am sure they can still be read as fabulous standalone novels as well, so there is no need to worry that you would be out of your depth stating with her current, soon to be published novel. This is definitely one not to be missed.
The day for Lottie starts when Cara Dunne is found hanging in her bathroom by a neighbour. Then later on the same day Fiona Heffernan jumps to her death from the roof of a nursing home, the place where she actually works. Both Cara and Fiona look as though they have committed suicide, but Lottie is puzzled by an uncomfortable coincidence. Both are found wearing wedding dresses. This would be unusual in a bustling town, but in the quiet, quaint village of Ragmullin it surely would raise suspicion. True to form, when the bodies have been closely examined, the suspicion becomes a fact. Worse still, their preliminary investigations discover that Fiona’s eight-year-old daughter Lily has been abducted from the Dance school where she was training after school; much needed rehearsals for a forthcoming show.
As the body count increases Lottie is desperate to discover a link between the victims and so work out the likely suspect. She has almost nothing to work with. The protagonist is like a chameleon, skilled at keeping a few steps ahead of the game. With the little girl still missing Lily’s future seems bleak. Hers could be another body to add to the toll. Or not - it was anyone’s guess. Meanwhile Lottie is torn apart by the worry of family problems in this, the lead up to Christmas. Her newly acquired secret fiancé is acting strangely and is very remote as well, leading Lottie to the conclusion he is about to finish their once blossoming romance. Perhaps he has a new girlfriend. He has certainly been away a lot more than usual. This novel is a total enigma, the tight storyboard yielding very few clues. I love journeys like this. It literally could be any one of a number of characters in the frame. It is impossible to predict who the protagonist is.
‘Broken Souls’ is an intriguing police procedural novel full of drama, mystery and shocking twists and turns in the story. There are more than a few red herrings and blind alleyways thrown into the plot. When the finale is triumphantly revealed, still in awe at the outcome of everything coming together, there is a scorpion sting delivered with it, leaving you with a teasing lead into the next book in the series. We will have to wait to find out what it is…
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from publisher Bookouture through my membership of NetGalley and in return for an honest review. Thank you very much for my copy. These are my own honest opinions without any outside influences. I thought this novel was very good indeed. The plot was interesting, complex and uniquely twisty. The writing was very engaging and this author really understands what the reader wants from a novel within this genre and once again has delivered. I’ve read most of her novels in two different series but this one is definitely amongst one of my favourites. It’s a 4.5* review from me.
Lottie and Boyd are back in another dark and twisted crime novel. After the discovery of two apparently suicides of women wearing their wedding dresses Lotte and Boyd are pulled down a path that suggests all is not what it seems and when a little girl goes missing it’s a race against time to work out who is responsible and all of this whilst Lotte is holding her family together by a thread and what is Boyd hiding from her. This book does not disappoint.
Even though the novel is set in the run up to Christmas, this is a story that chilled me in more ways than just the weather!
Lottie, well things don’t get any easier for her. More than a few times I wanted to reach in to the story and give her a hug. I really felt for her with the constant struggle between motherhood and her job. I have to admit to feeling a wee bit sad for her kids as lets be honest, they do seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to Lotties career.
Her job though is what keeps bringing us readers back for more. How can you not get wholly wrapped up in the cases that her and the team are working on? Especially as it soon appears that there is more than just one murder victim.
As there is not only a murderer to find, there is also the missing eight year old girl. This adds to the tension and the urgency to get it solved. On top of that we have Lottie’s home life as well as her relationship with Boyd. I couldn’t get enough and was racing through the pages.
Broken Souls is a story that packs a punch in more ways than one. It is a dark and menacing read that had me hanging off every word. One bit in particular left me in emotional turmoil. This has been one brilliant crime series so far and I am eager for more.
Broken Souls and they are indeed broken souls is the 7th book in the Lottie Parker series
How I love Lottie Parker and her team of detectives ! As the pages turn, in my mind I am trying to solve all these murders along with them, but I cant compete with the team.
One of the things I love about Lottie is you feel you know her: she is much more than just detective, she is a mother, a daughter, sister , fiancee. She has so many human sides and above all she cares for all those broken souls and is determined to solve their murder so they might rest in peace.
A great cast of characters, who can you trust ? Not many of them.
The pages fly by with twists an turns and I couldn't put the book down.
I will be first in line for book 8 featuring Lottie Parker!! Can't wait to get my hard copy.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to shadow Lottie and her team in Broken Bones.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Broken Souls, the seventh novel to feature Detective Lottie Parker of the Ragmullin Garda.
When Cara Dunne is found hanged in her bathroom something doesn’t seem right about it and a post-mortem confirms she was murdered. That afternoon Fiona Hefernan is thrown off a building and her 8 year old daughter, Lily, is missing. With the bodies piling up and Lily still missing Lottie and her team work overtime to solve the case.
I thoroughly enjoyed Broken Souls which is a good procedural with several twists and turns. Initially I found it hard to concentrate on as the narrative switches between several characters who have little discernible relevance but many of the links soon become clear and I quickly settled in. This is a story of secrets as just about every character, except Lottie, is hiding something and I found that a bit frustrating as many of the reveals, including one stunner, are withheld until the end. Nevertheless it is a good tale with much more going on than “just” the murders. I liked the way the characters started off independent of each other only to be gradually linked together.
Lottie is her usual frantic self, panicking about the case and her perceived inability to manage both her work and home life. Normally this works well but in this novel she comes off as neurotic and controlling with more than one character telling her that it’s not all about her.
Broken Souls is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.
I always enjoy books by Patricia Gibney and this did not disappoint. DI Lottie Parker is back, investigating an apparent suicide. Her relationship with Boyd appears to be deteriorating and her family is as difficult and complicated, as ever. The suicide/murder body count rises and each has a connection, with plenty twists and lots going on, this is another winner for the author. My thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Lottie and the gang are back with a bang!!! The story starts off with an apparent suicide, a young woman is found hanging in her apartment wearing a wedding dress. Something feels off about it to Lottie so she calls in the pathologist to investigate. A few days later another victim turns up, also wearing a wedding dress. What is happening? How are they connected? And then it is discovered that the 2nd victim has a little girl that cannot be found. More victims turn up, there is a lot of suspects and intertwining stories.
Once again Patricia Gibney has given us a great read. However I found at times it was a bit disjointed, so many suspects, so many stories and the culprit kind of comes from left field, Lotties priest friend Joe seems to appear, then disappear, then appear again with not much connection to the whole thing until the end. This I suppose stems from Lotties own chaotic life which still doesn't seem to be settling down and her relationship with Boyd is on tenderhooks.
Even having said that, I can't wait for the next instalment. Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Patricia Gibney for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
So, we are now at book seven and, after finishing book six, I had given up on ever warming to Lottie as a person/character. Well, blow me down, about half way through this book I actually started to like her. Don't get me wrong, I'm not about to invite her over for coffee and a chat, but I am starting to understand her a little bit more. This could also be due to the fact that, in this book, her family take more of a back seat than in previous. Something that gets my goat a bit tbh. I also got a little upset with the author over something that she did in the latter part of the book but I am reluctant to expand further on this here for fear of spoilers.
From my previous paragraph, you can probably guess where I'm going next. Yes, this is book seven. Yes, the main story is self-contained enough to be read as a stand alone. No, I don't recommend you do that as, from what I have already said, Lottie is a bit complex and is probably better met in book one and her journey followed sequentially.
There's been a few suicides on Lottie's patch. She is called to the scene of the latest one and something about the scene makes her unsure that this is one. Her investigation into this has only just got started when there's a second suspected suicide which also appears unlikely to have been. The second killing only the more worrying as the victim's child also appears to be missing.
And so begins the most intriguing investigation of one of the most convoluted, yet well plotted crime sprees I have read about in time. As with all books of this genre, I tried to second guess what was going on but soon realised that this was pretty futile and I gave up and just went with the flow.
As already mentioned, I started to warm to Lottie during this book. Maybe it's cos she is finally embracing her love interest and acting slightly more responsible - giving up the evil drink seems to have helped. Well, until he starts to act a but suspect and then she reverts to type a bit more. Although her family take more of a back seat in this book, there appears to be trouble afoot with some of the things that are mentioned, food for future episodes methinks.
The investigation, the main event in any book of the genre, is brilliantly plotted and executed. There are quite a few characters involved, each with their own level of dodgy, and it does take a wee while for everything to eventually come to light. But it did, and to my immense satisfaction.
All in all, a brilliant addition to a series that I felt needed a book if this quality to keep it going.. With how it ended I am really looking forward (and fearing) the next one. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
I still like Lottie even though her life is a mess and she seems to have no time for anything but her job. I liked this book but the plot seemed to be all over the place and there were far too many suspects. Even at the end, after all was explained, I was still a bit confused. I will definitely read the next book in the series, one of these days I hope to read about Lottie getting her life together...
Yup, gutted and in tears. This latest episode of Detective Inspector Lottie Parker and the boys in blue will floor you. I love this series, I have watched each character develop some in leaps and bounds and some fall to the side like Kirby. Now Boyd, I love him and his tenacity as he patiently digs in and waits for Lottie to pull her head out of her proverbial. But this story goes beyond that as Boyd realises that his time is up and takes a step back. Add the powder keg of a missing child, three suspected suicides and her mother Rose interfering again. Is it any wonder that Lottie is eyeing that bottle again.
I’ve been a big fan of the Lottie Parker series since the first book. But the last book wasn’t as strong as the prior ones. So, I was anxious to see how I felt about this one.
It starts fast and furious. Two women are found dead, both in wedding dresses. They look like suicides but appearances can be deceiving. And then the young daughter of one of the women is missing.
We’re given lots of potential suspects. In fact, with every chapter, my mind lit onto another potential murderer. We hear from the murderer, but only his remembrances of his early years.
And Lottie has her hands full. Her staff are letting her down, her boss is on her back expecting miracles, Boyd is keeping something from her and her kids are acting out. Her stress literally palpated off the page. At times, I found her incredibly infuriating, she was so dense. But she always feels very real. Gibney’s strength is in her character development.
Parts of this book didn’t ring true. My thoughts would be that a missing child would trump murder investigations, but for much of the book, the search for the child seemed to take back stage to the murders.
My thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.
Detective Lottie Parker is back again. .. book 7 in a series that is still going mighty strong. Returning to Lottie and her team is always something to look forward to and this book did not disappoint. Lottie and her family have been through a lot throughout this series and book 7 is no different.
This is a complex case for the team, with a lot going on with a lot of different characters. It keeps you guessing right up until the big reveal. There are women in wedding dresses in suspected suicides, a missing child and links to older cases. How does it all link up? Where is the little girl and who has taken her? Why is there tufts of hair missing? Who is terrorising this village.? Lottie knows that there I see more going on than meets the eye but how far will she take it?
Another great instalment. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
