A series of murders made to look like suicides. An eight year old girl abducted. DI Lottie Parker has enough on her plate with these investigations but her family still manages to cause her worry - her daughters and grandson going to New York with her half brother and her son becoming increasingly distant. Now her secret fiance and colleague, Boyd, is acting strangely and she's convinced herself he's got another woman just when she was ready to go public with their engagement.
Another fantastic read in this series - gripping from the first page. Highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Patricia Gibney for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Patricia Gibney’s Lottie Parker series never lets you down ~ this is another great read, well executed, plotted and paced.
Lottie as usual never has it easy, both in her private and working environment ~ but she’s a tough character, and despite falling by the wayside at times, she bounces back with strength and drive, making a great protagonist.
This case centres around initially suspected suicides, but soon it becomes clear that something more sinister is occurring. There’s also a missing child aspect to the case making life hard for Lottie Parker and her team.
This is a series read, and although it can be read as a stand-alone, I’d recommend following the series from the beginning to understand the characters and their relationships. This book is rather emotive for a particular character and relationship thread.
So, as always a top recommendation from me. The Lottie Parker books are intelligent, driven police investigation reads with the added bonus of strongly written and engaging characters.
I absolutely love this series with Lottie Parker and was so looking forward to reading this. It was as brilliant as all of the other books in this series. A great storyline with all the usual twists and turns we expect from Patricia’s writing but a few red herrings in there. Just as I think I have it figured out a spanner is thrown into the works and I have to think again. I couldn’t put it down. Bring on the next book, I can’t wait!!
A woman dressed in a wedding dress is found hanging by a belt in her home. Later the same day, another woman in a wedding dress is found dead from a fall off a hospital building with a terrifying discovery: her little girl has gone missing.
Detective Lottie Parker is back on the scene in the little village of Ragmullin and is convinced the murderer is someone the victims knew. But as days go by, she and her team are running into dead ends everywhere and no closer to solving these grisly crimes.
A fabulous mix of thrills, mystery, psychological mind twists and a clever, thick plot. Add that to a central core on Lottie and her personal struggles, her complicated relationship with Boyd, and the angst in her family and you have a gripping page-turning, riveting book.
Highly recommend Broken Souls.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the read of Patricia Gibney’s, Broken Souls.
Opinions expressed in my review are my own.
A fascinating story line Detective Lottie Parker and her team at their very best. What appears to be suicide ultimately became murders at first with no apparent connection but Lottie and her team work their way through the clues to an unexpected ending. Sadly for Lottie more heartache.
Fantastic read as always love Patricia’s ability to draw you into the characters. Lottie Parker now feels like an old friend. What an explosive ending had me very emotional. The usual twists and turns throughout the book but as with all the Lottie books always the back story of her life her children and her career throughly enjoyed and read in one sitting. Can’t wait now for the next instalment.
I thought this was a well-written detective story. Coming into this without having read the previous books didn’t leave me lost, but I gathered from the story that I did miss some significant history about the main character (death of her husband, kidnapped kids). While I enjoyed the mystery, I felt like it dragged on a bit. I also thought the multiple characters and their intertwined relationships caused some confusion. I was happy to finish this one, but was just a bit too long for me.
Oh My Days! Where on earth do I start with this review? It was so nice to catch up with Detective Lottie Parker again, I've missed her and the team. This is #7 of this Irish Police Procedural series set in Ragmullin and its surrounding villages. I'm not sure its a place I'd live though as it has far more than its fair share of psychopaths and serial killers. Its chock-a-block full of the twists and turns that we have come to expect from Ms Gibney. (no pressure for #8). These really shouldn't be read as standalones, I feel that all of the background information in the earlier books needs to be read to even begin to understand Lottie Parker and how her mind works.
Never one to shy away from writing about current affairs or events that are happening around us far and wide. this book is no different. Ms Gibney talks about both mental and physical health and the lenghts people will go to keep them secret from family, friends and colleagues rather than ask for help.
As I was reading bits I wanted to throttle her family to make them realise just how lucky they are. Obviously her family life has problems, which mothers life doesn't? They know their mum works very long hours and she loves them deeply. In her heart she knows that she gets things wrong and often gets overly immersed in cases, but she doesn't deserve the way the family have behaved in parts of this novel, although I worried for Sean. I can't help but feel that Leo her stepbrother has an ulterior motive for all his offers of good fortune.
No Lottie Parker review would be complete without talking about her relationship with her colleague Boyd, they are so close but appear further apart than ever in Broken Souls. Knowing the way Lottie's mind works Boyd was daft to try to keep secrets from her even if he ultimately had her best of intentions at heart. I've got everything crossed that at some point the author will allow Lottie to be happy, if only for a short while.
I really don't want to give a complete rehash of the book as then their would be no surprises for the reader and that would be a disappointment so I'll be brief:
When a young woman is found hanged at home wearing a wedding dress Lottie and Boyd sense something is a little off. When another young woman is found dead Detective Lottie Parkers spidey senses really begin to tingle. The next poopstorm to hit them is abduction of a victims eight year old daughter, that sets off another new load of problems. (my only criticism is I felt the abduction warranted a more prominent role in the story). It doesn't help that things are somewhat strained between her and Boyd. As she can't work out why and he doesn't want to talk about it her mind begins to think the unthinkable.......
Right that's it peeps, if you want anymore buy the book lol I will highly recommend this and the rest of the series to any one who enjoys a fast pace, page turner of a book
Read for an honest review. Thank you Patricia Gibney, Netgalley and Bookouture Publishers
Another great Lottie Parker read .... added to her hectic home life and love life is her latest case involving the suspected murders of two women found dressed as brides , added to that the disapperance of the 2nd murdered womans 8 year old daughter and the news her children and grandson are going away for Christmas and you know that this book is going to be a non put down book !!!!
Another excellent instalment in the Lottie Parker series. Lots going on in the main plots, with twists and turns and too many prospective culprits to shake a stick at! Woman are turning up dead in Wedding dresses, children missing and more besides. The subplot continues to development, thrill and keeps you as much enthralled as the main plots. Lottie’s life is never easy and we are left knowing that there’s much more drama to come for her. Cracking stuff!
I have to say I got very excited when I saw book 7 was out in the Detective Lottie Parker series, its no secret that I love these books…..
Lottie is called to the scene of an apparent suicide of a woman found hanged in her bathroom wearing a wedding dress but when her and Boyd arrive, they feel like something is off, did this woman, Cara do this to herself? Lottie is working on the presumption that they may have a murder on their hands, then a few days later, the body of another woman is reported…..who supposedly threw herself off the local nursing home roof where she worked as a nurse, again in a wedding dress!!!!
Lottie has her hands full with these suicides/murders and then to top it off, the second victim’s 8 year old daughter has disappeared, add to that her relationship with Boyd seems to be going belly up for whatever reason Lottie can’t fathom and Boyd is acting strangely towards her, and as if that is not enough, her kids have informed her that they are going to New York for the Christmas with her grandson Louis and her half brother, whom Lottie just can’t take to is accompanying them…. How much can one woman take….
Another great police procedural twisty mystery to get your teeth into, I cannot fault these books ever, it has it all…. Murder, love drama, family dramas…. How Lottie Parker is still a sane woman is beyond me!!!
I am a huge huge fan of Patricia Gibney. I feel like I’ve known Lottie Parker for years and I’m rooting for her...... I loved this book. The perfect continuation of her story. So many twists and turns ..... no clue where the book is heading until the end.
This is my all time favourite series.... if you haven’t read Patricia yet you’re in for a treat as you have 7 books to read. Highly recommend!!!!!
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Detective Lottie is called to the scene of woman name Cara who is found hanging in her home and she wearing her wedding dress as she and her team are investigating who will want to kill this woman on suppose to be her happiest time in her life they tumble on into a another crime when a women name Fiona who was push from a hospital roof.
As she tries to found a common link to these crimes that seems like suicide she also learns Fiona daughter Lily is missing and she afraid that she be the next victim. Their are twist and turns.
I like that the author let us be involve in Lottie like as she tries to balance family life even though her children are bit whining and the strain she has with Boyd who seems to be having issues.
I am a big fan of this series so was delighted to get an ARC of this book. As always there is a good balance between the personal life of the main characters and the crimes they are investigating. I have to say though that it is time Lottie took her family in hand. Her children range between 15 and 20 and even though there have been several murders and an 8 year old girl is missing they are whining about the fact that their mother has to go into work on a Saturday. Trust me, no self respecting Irish mother would put up with that.
Otherwise I really enjoyed this book and look forward avidly to the next one.
Brilliant as always and totally addictive and I loved it !!
So here we have the next instalment of this wonderful series featuring DI Lottie Parker and her team and this is thrill a minute police procedural that just doesn’t let up, so many twists and lots going on it really is unputdownable but that comes as no surprise as ever book in this series has been a 5 star read in my opinion.
Lots of tension going on the storyline as suspected suicides turn out to murders, a missing child and to add to all that things between Lottie and Boyd are also strained as Boyd just doesn’t seem himself and as always Lottie’s home life is as chaotic as ever trying to balance looking after her family and her work but the strong character of Lottie we have come to know and love battles through determined to get to bottom of just what is going on. Patricia Gibney as always writes a superb story never letting up on the action and once more providing us another 5 star read and highly recommended.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
