I appreciated that this book is grounded in CBT techniques. It provides practical tips and tools to help readers tolerate uncertainty and reduce the need for constant reassurance. I learned a lot from the strategies outlined and am eager to try some of the CBT methods discussed.
However, it's important to note that the book may feel a bit inaccessible for those without a prior understanding of CBT techniques. While it offers valuable insights, readers who are new to these concepts might struggle to fully grasp the material without some foundational knowledge or prior experience with a therapist.
I think this book could serve as a useful resource for therapists or anyone supporting someone with these issues, but it may fall short as a standalone self-help guide for those seeking immediate self-improvement. Overall, Needing to Know for Sure has some great insights, particularly for readers already familiar with CBT, but it might not be the best starting point for everyone.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this book. Needing to Know for Sure is a psychology self help book. It talks about cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), that helps people overcome their fears of uncertainty and to stop needing reassurance so much. I definitely learned a lot while reading this, and want to try CBT.
Thank you #NetGalley for the review copy of #NeedingToKnowForSure
Even the cover starts strong - I love that this is subtitled with a symptom/behavior and not narrowed to an individual diagnosis, because these issues can occur across so many different labels or even with people who don’t have a diagnosis at all.
The content is all evidence-based, up-to-date, and explained in a way that’s simultaneously comprehensive, comprehensible, and realistic.
This is a great book for therapists to read and use in their practice, and also great for anyone wanting a bit of guidance or perspective on how they can improve their quality of life.
Excellent self-help guide to uncertainty-based anxiety and compulsive checking for reassurance. The authors do a good job of revealing how many types of anxiety are underpinned by a fear of uncertainty and provide clear steps for how to develop tolerance of uncertainty. As a therapist this is definitely a book I believe would be useful to many people and that I'll be recommending.
As someone who suffers from very minor OCD and the need for reassurance, I found this book very helpful. I am a big fan of anything that gives sufferers practical evidence-based steps, and the fact that the book focuses on CBT only adds to its appeal. Great book which hits the mark.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley..
good, solid read. informative..e asy to follow.
Needing to Know for Sure is a good book with interesting advice and information. One still needs therapy with this book.
For me, self-help books that are based around mental health must be evidence based. I was happy to see that's the case with Needing to Know for Sure, especially because that need has driven me for most of my life.
It's important to note that unless the reader already has a working knowledge of CBT techniques and skills that they've developed with the help of a therapist, this book may be a bit inaccessible. Those of us who do have enough CBT training under our belt to take on the info in this book should be able to derive lots of useful tips from it, though.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC.
