I devoured Stories We Never Told. I couldn’t put the book down and was curious to see where the story would head next. The mystery of what was happening to Jackie, who was messing with her, who could she trust kept me turning pages, trying to figure out the who-dun-it aspect of the story, and hoping that I was heading in the wrong direction.
I can’t say enough for the ending, it was phenomenal. I didn’t see it all coming, I had some ideas and wasn’t entirely wrong, but the last part of the book was the absolute best.
Love the cover, it's intriguing. I just wish I'd love the story more. I wanted to feel pulled in but, right off the bat, I hadn't liked the MC. I found the first awkward dinner with ex-boyfriend, husband, and ex's new "friend" horrible. I thought Jackie treated both hubby, ex, and colleague distastefully and I never warmed to Jackie after it. I thought the story had interesting turns but also over-the-top reasoning. Meh, I wish I'd liked it more.
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
I really enjoyed this book! The story follows a psychology professor named Jackie who thinks she is over her ex-lover Harlan. She’s married now, but seeing Harlan with another woman sparks a curiosity that quickly turns into an obsession. However as we come to find out, Jackie may not be the only one obsessed.
I like the theme of obsession in this book. What starts out as mild curiosity quickly becomes something more and it makes you think about how far is too far. I also loved how many secrets there were throughout the book. The title itself refers to those bits and pieces of ourselves that we hide from even the people we are closest to. We all have those stories that we don’t share with others for whatever the reason may be. While the timing of the story itself is pretty linear, there are certain chapters that share the untold stories of the main characters. I loved those the most because they give you a much deeper understanding of why the characters act as they do.
This book was definitely emotional at times and it was certainly full of secrets! If you enjoy reading about love, drama, and obsession then I would recommend trying this read!
This story was tantalizing, juicy, and fun! I found myself really enjoying this tale of thrilling twists and turns. A very addictive page-turner that I can highly recommend!
Full review to come on Goodreads and Amazon. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a review copy.
This is the second book I have read from this author. I adored The Family Ship, but this one not so much. I felt that there was definitely a story to this book, however it just never made it's way out. I did not care for the disjointedness of the back stories of the main characters and how they were placed in the book. I felt it would have been more effective starting out the book and delving into current events with all of the past history known after the first meeting. I really would have liked to have seen an actual relationship with the current husband because I did not get how their marriage dynamic worked and why she chose him after her intense relationship with Harlan. I really wanted this story to reach the breakneck point, however it just never did although it did flirt with some reasonable culminations. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.
Really enjoyed this tale of obsession and jealously and the added psychological aspect was also a win for me
Sonja Yoerg is on fire with this new book! A thriller that takes you to psycho town! Ex wife becomes obsessed with the new love interest only for things to go not so good. This will leave you doing double takes on who’s really after who!
A story about obsession, a novel that has you wondering: How far is too far?
Jackie, a psychology professor, married and settled - finds out that her ex-lover and colleague Harlan has a new girlfriend who is nobody else but Nasira, the new member at Jackie's research team. With time, Jackie notices that with his new girlfriend, Harlan is breaking all the rules he had set up, back in the times when he was dating her - and her curiosity is constantly growing.
Things are not what they seem to be in this novel that deals with the topics of love, loss, obsession, jealousy ... and murder. I enjoyed the core idea and also, the different perspectives provided, a twist that I certainly did not see coming & would like to rate this book with 3 stars. I am curious about Sonya Yoerg's upcoming works.
Twisty, turn-y, and dark! Stories We Never Told is about Jackie, a recently(ish) married Psychology professor who has a run-in with her ex and becomes obsessed with looking for answers about how things ended up for her and about the people in her life. I'm not sure how to classify this book, if it's a thriller/suspense or just a domestic-focused novel, and I think the book does suffer from a bit of an identity crisis. Overall, a good page-turner!
I read this book very quickly thanks to such an engaging talented author! Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Great characters, setting and storyline. Would highly recommend.
A dark tale that was a pleasure to read. I loved reading the downward spiral and the ending!! Love this author!
When I was in college and hung up on an ex-boyfriend, I would occasionally eat lunch at his usual spot, or take the long way home so I’d walk past his dorm. My friends would sometimes casually stalk their crushes or exes as well. With the advent of Facebook, it became that much easier to follow along at a distance. Everyone does it. What’s the harm?

this was my first book by Sonja Yoerg and I loved it!!!!!! The deceit and manipulation of Harlan was just unbelievable!!!!! I hung on every word and was hooked until the last page. He was truly a character you love to hate. I highly recommend this book.
Twists and turns! Couldn't turn the pages quick enough. Loved this book!! I can't wait to read more of Sonja
I really enjoyed this book! The story follows a psychology professor named Jackie who thinks she is over her ex-lover Harlan. An intricate and gripping novel about relationships! It’s a look at women and the intricacy and intimacy of their relationships with their partners. And their relationships with other women and their family. It’s full of love, regrets, and secrets. Jackie has been married for years to her husband, so why does it bother her that the man she used to date is seeing her colleague? Soon, she will feel entangled and confused by everyone around her as she sorts through her feelings.
An interesting look at how when things are spinning out of control, you can look to the facts and use science and reasoning to figure it out; all within the confines of a psychological thriller..
As a reader you know something is off with Harlan even before you read his story. He left me creeped out.
Jackie fell to the feelings of jealousy because of what might have been with Harlan not because she wasn’t happy with Miles.
I liked the slow build to the ending.
This is really a story of obsession. The plot was well crafted and it was an enjoyable read. Complex and multilayered.
Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I received this book "Stories We Never Told" from NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own. It was okay. It was a bit of a struggle to read and the story didn't really keep me wanting more. Just not for me.
