An interesting enjoyable read. I did find the plot-line well written, but a little predictable in places. The characters were likeable and the family had so many secrets to reveal. Recommended.

A couple discovered murdered, the husband hung from a tree. Found by the daughter of a man murdered and hung two decades ago. This sets the scene for this book.

I found it well written with twists and turns a plenty which expose the rotten secrets of some folk in a small Oregon town.

It keeps you guessing as to the identity and motive of the killer right up to the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.

Review for 'The Last Sister' by Kendra Elliot

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for MontLake Romance publishers

This is the second book I have read by this author and it was another success. It is the first book in the Colombia River series and I'm looking forward to reading more. An explosive start for a new series.

The plot is compelling and filled with mystery, lies, crime, suspense, tension, love and murder. It asks the question how far would you go for love and family?

The book is very well written and the descriptions are brilliant. I felt I was in the plot with the characters. The characters were strong, interesting and believable. I loved the family and the agents and am looking forward to reading more about them. Very fast moving with a gripping plot.

I highly recommend this to fans of crime, murder, mystery, suspense, psychological thrillers and anyone interested in a good read.

Rated 5/5 on Goodreads and Amazon and reviewed on over 30 Facebook groups.

Another great book in a great series by a great author!!! I can't say this loud enough...I LOVE Kendra Elliot books!!!

This is the first book in the Columbia River series, but we get to see old friends (characters) and meet some new ones, which I hope to see in future books of this series.

If you love edge of your seat, page turning, action packed with murder, unpredictable twists & turns, believable story lines, amazing characters, along with a little racism, blackmail, and who did what moments than this is the book for you.

My first book by this author and it certainly won't be the last. I'm already looking for more as I write.
I honestly loved everything about this. The characters were all interesting in their own way, with their own little back stories which made them more so. The plot; secrets, racism, murder and twists in all the right places. What more could you want?
Thank you #NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this.

Ugh, I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn't even finish it. I got about halfway through it before I finally called it quits. Overall, I liked the plot synopsis (which is why I picked it in the first place) but I just could not finish. I feel like this book has way too many flashbacks and not enough action. Anyways, thank you for allowing me to review it, but I won't be recommending it to my readers. =/

Guess 2020 is my year for stumbling across talented authors. Kendra Elliot blew me away with this solid action-packed thriller. The story begins with FBI agents Zander Wells and his partner Ava McClane who venture to a small town in Oregon—on the trail of a hot case. A horrific murder had taken place and they’re not sure if it’s a double murder, or a murder suicide. Emily Mills, a friend of the deceased couple is forced to rehash her father’s murder, which ironically is parallel to the couple. The FBI agents are stumped as to who’s the killer but can’t help feeling watched at every turn.

This book has it all…
*Suspense
*Mystery
*Great characters
*A bit of romance.

I’d like send a big thank you to NetGalley for providing me this amazing ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a compelling story , I was hooked!I enjoyed the setting, it felt real.It was a little bit slow for my taste but still it was great.I liked the characters and I find the story intrigued. The Last Sister is the first in the new Columbia River series by Kendra Elliot. FBI Agents Zander and Ava are called to investigate a murder that could tie into one 20 years earlier.I liked the suspense a lot!

One of my favorite female mystery writers is Kendra Elliot and lately, I have been on medical leave and mixing up my romance and mysteries to stop myself from getting into a reading slump. The Last Sister starts with a prologue of an incident and then jumps to Emily Mills finding the bodies of Sean and Lindsey who have been murdered. The local sheriff put it down to a murder-suicide but Emily thinks differently as the scene resembles her father's murder, so she calls the FBI Portland Office. Agents Ava McCallum whom we have seen in previous books and Zander Wells. After speaking to Emily, they believe that this is more than meets the eye and soon it seems that it may be a Hate crime and the similarities to her own father's murder starts to be more than a coincidence. Is this new murder connected to her father's? How can that be as Chet confessed or was he set up? Just after her father's murder, her oldest sister Tara disappeared and has been gone for over twenty years without a peep. What happened to Emily's sister? As Zander and Emily search to find the truth, it looks like they might be getting a bit too close when someone shoots at Emily. Will Madison - Emily's youngest sister be "The Last Sister" alive? Or will Zander, Ava, and Emily manage to solve not only her father's real killer and what happened to get him killed as well as the current murders in town and the discovery of a set of skeletons? Also with the blossoming chemistry between Zander and Emily, I assume if the series continues we may get glimpses of Emily in future novels.

Found this book hard to get into. It did not hold my attention. The storyline is full of suspense, telling the tale of a dysfunctional family with lots of twists and a little romance. A read to pass the time.
My thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Not as good as her previous novels, but still a worthy read.

It just didn't grip me as much and was a bit slow to start.

Thank you to Netgalley, publisher and author for a copy of this book

I found The Last Sister a very slow book to get into. It just didn’t grab me and keep hold of me but it is worth a read.

In a small, quiet town, where everyone knows everyone else’s business, a double murder takes place. It is of a coloured man and his white wife. When FBI Special Agent Zander Wells and his partner Ava McLane are called in to investigate the case they suspect a racial motive is behind it. Emily Mills, who runs a local diner with her younger sister, finds the bodies and she is the one who contacts Wells as she doesn’t think the local sheriff is investigating the case properly. It seems too much of a coincidence as Emily witnessed the murder of her American African father twenty years previously which points the finger to a racialist hate crime. Her father’s killer was caught and brought to justice. Wells has to prove that there is a connection between the separate murders. We soon realise that there are a lot of hidden secrets. Why did Emily’s older sister Tara disappear after their father’s death? Theplot twists and turns and the secrets of the sisters are gradually revealed. Emily’s father’s background is investigated when his pocket watch that has been missing all these years turns up with reference to a racialistI hate group. This is a very addictive read and will have you guessing until the end. A highly recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

A tight and well constructed start to this murder mystery. A friend fails to turn up for work and during a subsequent search a bloody murder scene reveals a body hanging from a tree and a catastrophic blood bath in the house. Is there random coincidence in this murder or is this linked to a similar murder two decades ago. FBI are called to work closely with local police force revealing a close knit community intrinsically linked to racism and the KKK. Initially it is. slow meticulous detective work revealing family secrets and resentments in an effort to discover and reveal the perpetrators. Along the way the story line becomes muted and diluted by a love story between protagonists which was both improbable and distracting. As a murder mystery it seemed to lack a conclusion of nail biting intensity drifting into a family saga with members striving to overcome childhood trauma and tragedy in an effort to lay their demons to rest finally. Easy reading, good premise and plot line but frustration that the finished story could have been so much more than its parts.

Disappointing. This book did not hold my attention for long and for this reason I didn't finish it. It was predictable and very similar to books I've read before, therefore easy to guess the plot.
