This was one of those series that really caught me off guard and I was surprised it did not have a wider audience. Emily King has an abundance of imagination that allows her characters to seamlessly hop from one adventure to the next - each portion unique and vivid - from cursed islands and time-frozen fairy tale realms, to realms of storm tossed seas and mermaids (and not the kind that inspire I Love Mermaids tee-shirts), to a steampunk land of Giants nestled somewhere in the clouds. But would could easily feel episodic or disjointed - doesn't - the many connect, and you end up with an unusual action adventure fantasy with diverse parameters and settings and peopled with complex characters (and even more complicated motivations and loyalties).
It also has an ageless feel, in that both YA and Adult audiences can enjoy it, (those looking for overt adult situations wont find them, but, as an adult reader, I certainly didn't feel the book was lacking because of it). My only real disappointment in this final installment was its length (and I felt this way a bit with the second one): this story line could have easily used another 100 pages to fill it out - everything happens so fast.
*Spoiler Alert for Below!*
Also the ending...I knew where it was most likely going to go as that was one of the only ways to make it all work out, but I am really not a big fan of the "back in time" resolution. It robs the characters of all the trials/tribulations and growth that they have been through - and that's what made it all worth it - all those things that happened. It's almost as bad as the "it was all just a dream" ending, you feel a bit robbed as a reader. However that being said, the only reason why I give it a pass here is because of the "Time" theme and Everley's own special powers/role within that theme...so I get it...but still, wanted more for this ending than that.
Emily R King is one of those authors on my "instant buy" list. This series of books was incredible and Everafter Song was the perfect end to this journey. I love that it is a single POV story and that we get to live in Everley's head for this entire trilogy.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an ARC in exchange for a review!
I liked this trilogy and this last book was exactly the ending of it needed. I really felt like all three books were very nicely written and their story combines really good. There is something cruel and dark and mystic about this that just plays really well.
The final book in the series was another outstanding addition to an already riveting series. The descriptions of the worlds make it easy to visualize the worlds King is building. The characters are thought out and give some depth to the character why they are who they are and how they got there. This book however I did not love as much as I've loved the others in the series. I felt the ending was a bit rushed and left me a little wanting. I also wasn't in love with the lead character by the end of the book. I found her a little lacking and very whiny. It wasn't a character I loved but I did find the slight change from the normal heroine to be a little refreshing.
Overall I gave this book 3 stars but I'd hands down give the whole series 5 stars. I highly suggest reading any of King's books!
This was probably my favorite book out of the trilogy. I felt like the all the worlds and creator stuff was less confusing. Everly finally became more likable when she was in the world of the giants. (During the first two books I just had a hard time getting past her brattiness.) Loved the end.
Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my review.
Everafter Song picks up where Into the Hour Glass ends. Everley is wanted for murder of her uncle and accused of sorcery because of her clock heart by the queen. To top it off, Markham is still on the run. Although Everley is with Jamieson and her friends, she wants to go out and find Markham and bring him to justice. When Markham grows a stalk that can bring him to the Silver-Clouded Plain where the giants live, Everley must reley on some old rivals to get her through the giants world in order to stop him. Markham is looking for a special item and Everley tries to beat him to it, if not, he might just end the seven worlds.
I loved this book so much! Although Everley can sometimes get under my skin with her constant whining, she does try to be as tough as possible and only wants to save her friends. This story was packed with lots of adventure and action. I love that Emily King doesn't completely focus on just Everley and Markham and that she shows us different sides of all the characters and makes them all have a grand story line. I am sorry to see this world go, and the ending just about killed me!

The finale to the ‘Evermore Chronicles’ by Emily R.King is here . Since I have not read the previous versions of the series, my understanding of the whole concept might be flawed but I would like to share the general impression of “The Everafter Song” as a stand alone.
Based on the opening and gathering from the ensuing conversation between Jamie & Everley, I am assuming that Everley is the reluctant heroine tasked with the task of saving the world and one who falls afoul of the authorities ergo subsidiary villains who mark her as a wanted criminal. Result – Everley is on the run, escaping from the clutches of the authorities in nick of time while at the same time gunning for the main villain, who goes by the name of Markham in this tale. While fleeing from the powers that be, Everley also gathers few odd, assorted but loyal friends who remain true to her and her cause. Not only does she gather friends but she also acquires powerful weapons and remarkable powers of her own and of which she is clueless about (as does happen), she is learning but time is running out for her as enemies close in on her..It’s time to make the final assault, the one that will determine the future and settle the destiny of the universe once for all.
And now we come to the final book. Everley comes back to the place where it all began for her. From a girl who had a loving family, a shop full of clocks sought after by the citizens and a normal heart, she is now an orphan, a fugitive who has lost her beloved shop and has a ticking clock for a heart.
Everley revisits her uncle Holden’s clock shop and unexpectedly meets Jamie, her erstwhile husband. Both share few moments of togetherness when there is a rude interruption in the form of police officers. The police officers identify her as the wanted fugitive and give a chase. One of the officer is shot down by her friend Cat, thus forcing them to flee to the hinterland, to the castle of Jamie Callahan.
Markham, the main villain enters the scene and forces more chaos and trouble for Everley and her friends. The momentum keeps spiralling out of control until the time , Everley decides to make her final stand. A final decides the fate of the world and fate of Everley, does she succeed? Does she get her happily ever after or ?
Opinion:
As I read through, I found that I was not overly sympathetic to the heroine or her cause. The scene or the emotions seemed to be built up desultorily thus leaving you untouched. Though action seemed to be continuous, it failed to give the impression of urgency, there was no “O My God, what’s going to happen next?” moment in the book. It moves at a languid phase with discerning readers already able to predict the outcome of how each twist is going to end up. However, there is one plot point which does surprise the reader along with Markham, that is his sister’s reason for murdering their parents!!
Markham, admittedly the main villain of the piece and certainly the best written character in this book. There are moment when you ‘feel’ for him more than for the heroine. His reasons for his actions seem weak, I mean as a chief villain, you employ hirelings or manipulate people to achieve your agenda instead of personally doing it yourself. He is determined and a master manipulator who wants to subjugate the humans, beat the time and become a God. He nearly succeeds too until Time delivers a sucker punch sending him into the darkness of eternity.
Everley comes across as a disgruntled savior who is dragged by the bit to do her task, left to herself, she would be happy to lol around in the castle, trying to find a cure for her clock heart and making a home with her husband Jamie. In other words, she is more of a selfish woman than a heroine material. Thus, when the climax comes, you do not feel for her ‘sacrifice’, for one, because, she did not choose it of her free will and had to choose it when her options dwindled. Two, readers get to know the “Happily Ever After” bit in the conversation between Father Time and Everley.
The one part I did enjoy was the part where the giants make an entrance. The brief interlude was refreshing and made that segment alive.
The Ever After Song is slow paced, the lack of witty liners or humor makes it a dull book.
This was a great little quick series. I read the second and third books over Christmas and they were just they right amount of keeping you on the edge of your seat without being too heavy for when you're in the mood for lighter reading. Definitely a good series to read when you aren't looking for a huge time commitment but when you want more than a stand alone novel in terms of character development and plot.
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Before I start with this review.. I want to just take a moment to discuss this BEAUTIFUL COVER ART. It is absolutely stunning! The colors and the instrument just are eye catching and ultimately made me more excited to read this than any other book this month. Just mesmerizing!
I didn’t know about this series until I got this arc, so I immediately had to go read the other books. Boy…. I did not expect how these books turned out at all! The story is great, the characters are great, everything about this book is great!
This is one of those books I truly feel you find the moment you need to find it. Evie is one of the best heroines that I have ever embarked on a journey with. Emily R. King did such a fantastic job of creating her characters as well as story arc.
This was a great ending to the Evermore Chronicles, I only wish I would have found these books sooner! Thank you so much to Emily R. King, Skyscape Publishing, and NetGalley for allowing me to review this ARC.
When I started this journey I honestly didn't know what to expect. All that I really knew about the series was a girl had a clock heart but she was full of sassiness and revenge. After finishing the first book, I would have never expected the story to take the turn it actually did. But it was amazing. As I was finishing up this book I was astounded by the way Emily took this story. It was so rich in the world and its lore. I loved learning more about this world and the creatures that inhabited it. There was adventure, love, friendship, and loss. This had everything I love in fantasy novels. Reading this series reminds me of why I choose these types of books and cling to them so tightly. I will admit I was surprised about the ending and the way it went but I couldn't stop smiling. It was the ending that was well deserved and I wish there was a fourth book about their lives after these events.
Everley is seriously amazing. I love her spark and confidence. Following her through this story was perfect. She was an amazing protagonist but also continued to develop. Everley from book one to book three is so different, but in such a good way. I will admit that sometimes I get worried that some main "fierce" characters come off too strong that it becomes almost unenjoyable, but Everley was never like that. Even in her final chapters, I could feel her pain that started her revenge but also her growth and the people she had started to call her family. While I loved learning about everybody else in this story, it was truly Everley's story and this girl with a clock heart had stolen mine.

This is a great ending to the Evermore chronicles. I love where the book takes place, and this is absolutely amazing world-building. I love the aspect of time in the story, and this wraps up the loose ends from the series nicely.
I love action-packed and fast-paced books, and this was exactly what I was looking for. Emily R. King did amazing character arcs and made me care for all the characters deeply. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves YA fantasy and be sure to check out the whole series of the Evermore Chronicles!
Emily R. King takes us on yet another exhilarating journey with our heroine, Evie; and I was once again unable to tear my eyes away from this book for even a second. We get to see more world, meet more characters, understand the depth of Killian and finally why he's done all of this. In a way, however, the reveal for his villainy was almost disappointing. I personally didn't think it warranted how evil he ended up becoming, but I suppose this is true of most villains in the real world.
This final journey and final battle that Evie and co. went on was so enjoyable, this whole book I loved the build up to everything. But when it came to the climax, and resolution of the story, I just expected so much more. Everything felt so rushed in those final chapters and it felt all the build up for these three books, the friendships and relationships these characters had ... it was washed away in a single second. The epilogue was short, and displeasing, and left me wondering what happened to all of the other characters that the author introduced us to. I want to know THEIR fates, not just Jamison and Evie's.
I loved everything up until the ending, but was ultimately dissatisfied with how everything wrapped up. Nevertheless, this was a magical, wonderful tale of sacrifice, love, and friendships that I think many fantasy readers will love.

Book Description;
In the heart-stopping conclusion to Emily R. King’s The Evermore Chronicles, the fate of the seven worlds lies in the courage of a girl on the run—and running out of time.
There’s a price on Everley Donovan’s head. Fleeing from the queen’s false accusation of murder and sorcery, the girl with the clock heart knows there’s only one way to prove her innocence. Everley must catch Killian Markham, the fugitive prince guilty of the crimes for which she’s been condemned. To do that, Everley must follow him into the towering realm of the Silver-Clouded Plain. It’s where flesh-eating Behemoths thrive, long-lost gods hide, and an artifact of destructive force awaits the death grip of the immortal prince.
Haunted by visions of burning Everwoods and bloody battlefields, Everley’s fears are rising. Because the elusive relic threatens more than the very power that drives her clock heart. In Killian’s hands, it can lead to the dismantling of the seven worlds. With everything—and everyone—Everley loves at stake, she must depend on Killian’s one weakness to outwit him: in his mad ambitions, Killian has underestimated her once again. For Everley is the Time Bearer. This is her destiny. The time of reckoning is at hand.

While I was in Maine this summer, I read the first two books in this series and really enjoyed them. The second book ended on a cliffhanger, so I was quite eager to read the conclusion to this series! It's action-packed, with all of the familiar faces from the first two books. Plus, I was happy that this involved more of the lands than I expected - especially since the Land Under The Waves is my personal favorite.
It's an exciting read that focuses more on concluding the plot than continuing the character growth. In fact, a few times, I had to check my progress in the book, because it really didn't seem like there were enough pages left for the end to really be included! It seemed that a fourth book might be on the horizon... but, King manages to cram a lot of action into the very end of the book. And I was glad to not have to wait, but a little disappointed that it felt so rushed. The conclusion itself fits the book well, but it wasn't really as satisfying as I would have hoped. Overall, I really enjoyed this series, but I just wish that there had been a bit more to the ending!

4.5 STARS
Great conclusion to a great series! By far my favorite of the 3 books. I loved every aspect. From the world building, to the magic, to the romance and of course the action. I could not put this one down! I was hesitant going into it, because the 2nd book was a little slower for me, but I’m so glad I finished out the trilogy!
In my review for Into the Hourglass (the second book) my biggest complaint was all the repeat information and that it was slow. I expressed that I wished we could have jumped into the action quicker.
Emily King delivered this tenfold in Everafter Song. We jump right back into the action, and there definitely wasn’t as much repeat information in this book. She sucked me in from the first page to the last.
I still truly love the characters in this book. Everley is such a relatable character, and I loved going on this adventure of time with her. Jameson is still the most stand-out character in my opinion. He is ever loyal & protective, but stands by Everley and her decisions and doesn’t try to control her. I also really love one of our side characters- Father Time. He was such an interesting character to read.
Again, King’s writing style is strong. The book had great pacing, and the plot was fantastic.
Highly recommend this series! Very original YA fantasy.
Special Thanks to NetGalley, Skyscape and Emily R. King for generously providing an eARC in exchange only for my honest thoughts and review.
Emily R. King's Everafter Song is the third and final installment in the authors The Evermore Chronicles. It has been a month since the end of Into the Hourglass. Protagonist Everley Donovan is a wanted woman. She has been charged by Queen Aislinn of being a sorceress with a clock heart. She's also been accused of murdering her own Uncle Holden. Everley's cat and mouse game with Prince Killian Markham has been set back by Killian's efforts to stay at least two steps ahead of her at every turn.
Killian Markham, the prince of elves, has a devious plan and is always steps ahead of Everley Donovan and her friends Jamison, Osric, Laverick, Claret. Everley goes absolutely nowhere without her trusty immortal blade of Avelyn, but in order to stop Killian, she might have to make the hardest choice of all. Everley has been Killian's pawn for too long. Killian has allies and plans to wake the giants from their slumber to finish what was started hundreds of years ago, making the humans servants to the elves.
Everley is doing all she can to maintain the structure of the worlds and not allow Markham to rip them all apart. Everley's dreams are a look into possibilities of what can happen if Killian wins. But, what happens if she wins? Everley must travel more than ever (including to the Silver-Clouded Plain home of the Trolls). As Time Bearer and Knight, Evie can explore the Evermore timeline. She believes this ability can be used to gain an advantage on Markham. Several endings have been foretold, and Everafter Song brings even new magical creatures - elves, giants, trolls, sea hags, etc into the fold.
This has been a wonderful series in regards to the world building. Everley and her allies have visited numerous alternative worlds while chasing Markham. From the Silver Clouded Plain where Giants have been locked in their world for the past 900 years. There punishment from trying to force humans into becoming slaves. We also visit the home of Killian and the Elves in the Land of Promise. As Everley travels from world to world, she picks up some pretty important allies as well as making the Queen squirm in her seat knowing that Everley is doing more to save the world than Aislinn ever thought of.
Everley has come to actually love Jamison but there is a caveat. Everly realizes that given the chance to turn back time to before she lost her entire family, it would mean losing all of those she has come to adore as friends and family. Including Jamison who she has been slowly falling for since they were married in the first installment. No spoilers but the author pretty much hinted in the second book that Everley was going to have to pull a huge back of tricks out her hat to defeat Killian and save everyone. It's just a matter of what it will cost her when all is said and done.
An adventurous and well planned ending to this series. I particularly enjoyed the added legends and fairy-tales to this story. The ending was well done too.
A fitting ending for a great series! I really enjoyed reading them, and this last book certainly kept you engaged and immersed all the way till the end! Especially with the characters! The only reason it didn’t get a higher rating was because I felt like at times, things tended to drag on instead of getting to the point. But still a good read :)
I received a copy of this in exchange for my honest review.
I really really enjoyed it. The only bad part of this book is I never actually read the first two books. >.< Even so, it's a really amazing story and I would love the dive into the full series whenever I get to it. :)
I received a copy of this in exchange for my honest review. I enjoyed this book, but found myself skimming over several parts because I felt there was a lot of detail. I loved Jameson and Everley. He was so steadfast even when she was hard to love. The ending gave me hope
