The Second Home is a mesmerizing, heartfelt and long-standing family drama about three siblings whose lives are changed forever one summer... and again as adults. As I read this book, and couldn’t help thinking it would make a fantastic movie or TV series. The character development is incredibly detailed, so much so that you find yourself rooting for each sibling — even when they’re in conflict with each other. For a debut novel, Christina Clancy knocked it out of the park!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for providing me with an advanced copy.

The Second Home is filled with family drama. I enjoyed how the author told the story from the siblings different perspectives. I will definitely be reading more books written by Christina Clancy.

The authors type of writing is so detailed and engrossing that I could not put this book down! I loved the family saga aspect and the fact that it followed the story line over many years so I could feel more complete with closure. I really enjoyed this book.

Loved this story from start to finish. The description of the cape is so detail and paints a lovely picture. The main characters were well developed, the story moved at good pace and the little bit of mystery added a great element.

I remember seeing this book float around Instagram a few months back and I knew I had to request it on netgalley. A story about a beach house and sibling relationships? Sounds perfect! I read this over the weekend and it was just so good. I enjoyed the different points of view and timelines. I enjoyed reading about the sibling dynamic and how that changed over the years. The overall message that family is all you have in the end resonates strongly with me. I am so happy I requested this and got it! I can’t wait to pick up a copy in

I liked this book quite a bit. Having no real knowledge of the Cape, it was described very well. This was an emotional family story with some dark secrets. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

The Second Home by Christina Clancy is going to be a 2020 Summer hit.

The Gordon family enjoys their summers up at the Cape every year but this summer will change the course of the siblings lives forever. This is Clancy’s debut novel and she has written a dark yet wonderful family drama.

I would highly recommend this book but a trigger warning should be placed for sexual assault.

The Second Home centers around the summer home of the Gordon Family Ed, Connie, Ann, Poppy and Michael. Michael was adopted when he was 16 and everything was fine until one summer where all their lives were changed By Anthony Shaw. The plot and family dynamic was awesome and made this book unputdownable. Each page is a page turner needing to know what is happening next.

I liked the beginning. It drew me in and made me want to learn more about the conflict between the siblings/main characters. But...

I couldn’t get through it. I made it a goal to at least get to 25%... but I stopped at 20%. Wasn’t a fan of the sexual attraction between siblings in high school (even if one of them is adopted... still weird) and all the unnecessary nipple descriptions. SO much nipple talk (never thought I’d say that about a book). On top of that I didn’t feel like there was a ton of character development in the first quarter of the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Second Home by Christina Clancy follows Polly, Ann, and their teen-adopted brother Michael from teens to adults. Their parents, Connie and Ed, are the most perfect couple from Wisconsin with an inherited second home on Cape Cod. They share the summer at the Cape before the teens are all drawn in different directions which begin to shape their experiences. After a horrible accident, the second home becomes a way for them to reconnect, albeit with lots of drama!

The novel is told from alternating perspectives of the children as they grow up. I loved the insight of sibling relationships examined in this novel. Look for this gem on 6.2.2020.

I cannot believe this was a debut novel. I read it solely on the description that it was for readers who enjoy Elin Hilderbrand and J. Courtney Sullivan. I wholeheartedly agree with that and I would even be so bold as to throw in some JCO for how the family dynamics were written. I was drawn to this Wisconsin family and their second home on Cape Cod from page 1. Clancy's imagery is so vivid that I truly felt like I was vacationing in Cape Cod. The story is narrated by the three siblings, one of whom is adopted and eventually strays away from the family due to unforeseen circumstances, misunderstandings, and lack of communication, eventually resulting in a strained relationship that constitutes the main theme of the story. The characters are not all lovable, but I prefer that as it adds realism. We also see just how messy death can be and how easy it is to hurt people. I love that the events in this book are realistic and relatable. This family is ripped apart by the events of one summer and now has to try to come back together. You know it's going to be messy. I requested this expecting a lighter beach read type book. I'm so glad this was more than that.

The Gordon family from Wisconsin consist of two parents and three kids, one of whom was adopted as a young teen. The Second Home by Christina Clancy is a book about the deep rooted love of the Gordon's family second home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The second home is where they spent their summers, in a saltbox in the community of Wellfleet. There's Ed and Connie, the old hippie parents who are teachers with their summers free to spend time in Cape Cod. The oldest daughter Ann is the appealing charmer with academic ambitions. Poppy, the younger daughter is the one with an independent spirit who surfs the world's beaches. Then Michael, the lovable teen who was adopted after losing his broken natural family.

The Gordon kids were good kids, but one particular summer, trouble managed to find them in a manner that would stay with them forever. The main theme of this book is about that very summer and how it followed them for years to come.

The book is full of drama well suited for a soap opera without the commercials or characters that come back from the dead. It's an intriguing story that has you falling in love with each of its family members and wanting to keep turning the pages to find out what happens next. This is a perfect book for a good bout of binge reading and, of course, a great book to take along to the beach. With the exception of one very evil player, all of the characters are endearing and have their proper place in the story. A great option for a book club choice considering that it covers a lot of different themes guaranteed to inspire some lively discussion.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of the eBook for a fair and honest review.

A simmering story of a family who has spent many years vacationing in Cape Cod in an old house won by the patriarch in a gambling match. Reflections on the past, trials and tribulations leading up to the present. The story begins when Ann, the oldest daughter is showing her crumbling family vacation home to a realtor. Something is amiss and as the story travels back in forth in time, it all becomes clear. Will Ann and her estranged siblings be able to mend the past and grow a future ? Some great elements in Clancy's debut family drama. I enjoyed the author’s writing style and it was a good beach read.

This book was better than I thought but it was far from a family mystery drama of other books I have read. Somehow I struggled through to complete it (a small miracle) when the premise made it sound so good. So two sisters are to clean up and sell a Cape Cod beach house that has been part of their family for many generations. Their adopted brother Michael is discussed throughout the book. Poppy the older and married sister and living in another state is very hands off in the selling of the house while Ann is doing everything and starting to notice and discover things that she had not before. What does it all mean?

Sadly, this took many sittings to complete and review because I have been reading some very rich nonfiction and other at your seat/OMG fiction. this was kind of pushed aside. I guessed the ending which is never good, so that is a negative. Still a few engaging characters and a decent plot until it was predictable. Maybe I will feel differently after I r-read this at a later date, but I don't think so.

The Second Home was so much more than I had hoped for! I wanted a character driven novel and The Second Home definitely delivered but I also got mystery and great life lessons. Ann, Poppy and Michael were such believable, lovable but sometimes you hate them characters. I felt like I had grown up with them myself. Their parents were the cool understanding parents everyone wants. Of course everything cannot always be perfect. Figuring out life and how to get along with siblings made an intriguing story.

Sometimes it felt like I wished I could rush things along. Sometimes things happened too quickly, too conveniently working out a problem. And then some plot twist or character quirk would rearrange the narrative and off the story would go.
All in all, a fine debut. Loved the setting. The second home was so important to the tale that it became a character. As a former educator, the characters of Ed and Connie (the parents) were offbeat and endearing, not unlike some few former colleagues.

Years ago, a summer spent at their family home in Cape Cod causes a rift between siblings Ana, Poppy, and their adopted brother Michael. With the death of their parents, the siblings must decide what to do with the house and finally come to terms with the secrets of long ago. Although the writing was excellent, I ended up DNF'ing this book a quarter of the way through. I just had no interest in spending four more hours reading about how sexual tension, a creepy employer, and poor choices screwed them up for life.

I made the mistake of starting this book late at night and then could not put it down! This is an ideal beach read filled with lots of complicated family and romantic relationships. I thought it was well-written and loved the character development and scenery description. I would definitely recommend this book to family and friends.
