This was a lovely quick read on a dreary raining afternoon! I've really been enjoying reading Christmas stories and this one was a delightful one.
Kira and Shay are finally a couple but not without issues. Shay is a divorce lawyer and because he's seen so much heartbreak, he refuses to let himself love and settle down. Kira, even though she's gone through a divorce, is ready to love again but knows how Shay feels about that so she's careful not to push him too hard. I loved how open they were with each other and how they were able to work out their problems and my heart smiled when Shay finally realized that Kira was THE one:)
I was given an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Pretty Poignant Scottish Romance💚❤
I enjoyed this lighter, fast read very much. It had a wealth of understanding between Shay and Kira, as they navigated their feelings quite openly and honestly, considering they jumped in with both feet, rather rapidly, to the chemistry that was tired of being denied. I think soul mate was represented very well here, the heart just knows, often times what the mind is slow to catch on to.
I didn't feel the depth I would've liked, though I truly enjoyed the story, it did seem the HEA was here before I was ready to leave this journey.
ARC by Netgalley. Review is strictly my own.
Donna Kauffman always delivers a good romance. This novella in her Hot Scot series features Rafe and Kira. Rafe, a divorce attorney who doesn’t believe in forever and Kira, a divorcee who still believes in happily ever after. The Scottish island setting, hot Scottish man, relatable heroine and a happy ever after all adds up to a cozy Christmas romance.
Santa in a Kilt (Kindle Edition) by Donna Kauffman Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. This is a cute romance between Kira (divorced and starting over) and Shay (a divorce lawyer who doesn't believe in HEA) The is some angst, laughs, tears, visits with friends from other stories and lots of steam all leading to a HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Page-turner Romantic Great world building Witty Steamy Entertaining Happily Ever After Wonderful characters Funny Easy-to-read
Santa in a Kilt, by author Donna Kauffman, is set on the windswept isle of Kinloch, off the Scottish coastline. Roan McCauley, Graham MacLeod, and Shay Callaghan had grown up on the island. Now grown, they are all in attendance at Roan’s wedding. Graham is already married and Shay is never planning to take that road. But the best plans often go awry. And often plans turn into dreams come true.
This is a delightful story with fun characters and a lovely message. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it.
Donna Kauffman is one of my favorite authors and Santa in a Kilt is a wonderful holiday novella!
Second chance trope is my all time favorite!!!! Kira and Shay shine in this novella. Both Kira and Shay both have their baggage. The love story moves quickly but its not predictable.
The story is well written with complex, flawed characters.
I love this author's writing style. I really enjoyed the basket weaving aspect as well.
I highly recommend this wonderful story.
Aww. What a wonderfully cute and sweet short story. I love the modern day Scottish setting right before the holiday season when all you want to do is cuddle up with your loved one. And this is what happens in Santa in a Kilt. Shay has been pining for Kira since she moved back into town but he couldn't break the bro code and go after her because his best friend liked her too. But now that said friend just tied the knot, he's ready to pursue her but he's not sure he's the right man for her. All the while Kira has been crushing on him too, but she won't let his fear stop her from grabbing hold of what could be the best love for both of them. Sweet, sexy story that will warm you up for sure. Loved every moment.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corp. for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This fun, quick read starts with a wedding on Kinloch and ends with a promise of a bright and wonderful future. Shay Callaghan doesn't believe in happy endings or even happy beginnings. As a divorce attorney in Edinburgh he tends to see people at their worst. As his two best friends have married and found happiness in a few short months, he plans to stay as far away from that as possible. Except that Kira MacLeod has other ideas for the handsome Scotsman. She might just teach him a thing or two about taking a chance at love and not letting it pass you by on the chance that it might not work.
Previously published as part of an anthology in 2011. Kira and Shay meet again at a friend's wedding in Kinloch. Both are attracted to each other, but Shay is fighting attraction. I love that Kira is a traditional Weaver. Would love to read more about these characters.
Santa in a Kilt is a nice fluffy Christmas tale. The action takes place in about two weeks and seems quite rushed. More time is spent on the characters professing their newfound love for one another rather than developing a plot. So although it is nice and fluffy I still would not purchase or recommend this book to patrons.
I loved the relationship between Kira and Shay. Shay doesn't think he's good enough for Kira and as a divorce attorney, he has his serious doubts about the existence of “The One.” Kira is a divorcée who hasn't given up on the possibility of love and knows a relationship can be worth the risk of getting hurt again. The relationship between Kira and Shay begins quickly but it doesn’t feel rushed. Together they work through their fears and concerns to their happily ever after.
SANTA IN A KILT was originally released as part of the UNWRAPPED Christmas anthology. It is the third story in the HOT SCOT series, but it can be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed the story of Kira and Shay especially how he felt about things and sort of struggle with how he wanted to be especially because of being a divorce attorney. It was how he came to realize who he was and how he wanted things to be that made it enjoyable.
A fun and challenging romance. My favorite part was about the basket weaving. Not a fan of details behind the bedroom door. Also found the Scottish dialect words to be a slight issue. Slows down this speed reader. Ha! Entertaining short story.
Kira is trying to get back to living after recovering from her divorce. She has set her sights on Shay for her future and at their friend's wedding finds it the perfect time to approach him and hopefully begin her new life. She did not know that she would totally be tongue tied when trying to talk to him.
Shay is a divorce attorney, as his dad was as well, and has seen so many failed marriages that he does not believe in Happily Ever After, at least not for him. Deep in his heart, he wants that, but his mind continually tells him that it does not exist.
The electric connection cannot be denied and Shay gives in to it and Kira is overjoyed. No promises are made, and they take the relationship as it is, taking the happiness as it comes and decides to see where it goes.
This is a spicy story that was very easy to read and I totally enjoyed it. There were two books previously in the “Hot Scot” Trilogy that I have not read. I was able to read this book independently, although I am sure reading the other two first would have given me insight into the other character's history.
I want to thank NetGalley.com and Kensington Books for allowing me to read the Advance Reader's Copy of this book. My review is my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
This was a bit long winded. Lovely setting, lovely characters and a very happy ending. The Christmas season is a great backdrop.

A quirky funny novella by Donna Kauffman from her Hot Scot series, Santa in a Kilt was originally published in a three author book called Unwrapped. A holiday read that made my long, rainy day much more fun. Shay Callaghan’s day began with the wedding of his best mate, Roan to his girlfriend, Tessie. He was to stand up with Roan with the third mate, Graham, political Laird of Kinloch, a small Scottish isle. Graham’s wife Katie was best friends with Kira, the woman who Shay could not keep his eyes off of. Shay was a solicitor on the island as well as in Edinburgh.
This charming Cinderella story is fun to read. It will pick up a long day. As all Kauffman’s Hot Scot books, the dialect is Gaelic and makes this winter romance tale more fascinating to read. Santa in a Kilt by Donna Kauffman will be published on October 29, 2019 by Kensington Books. I appreciate Kensington providing me with the pre-release copy. I encourage Kauffman fans to pick this one up, it is a great read.
Donna Kauffman has such a beautiful way with words in her novella 'Santa in a Kilt.' The story of Kira and Shay is one of overcoming vulnerability to get the greater prize of love. I enjoyed the journey. I do skip over the graphic sex which for me detracts rather than enhances the lovely story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I loved this story. The description of their beautiful city makes me want to visit Scotland. Plus the fact that it was a shorter novel, I was able to finish it in one day.
A cute short story to pass time by. The Scottish aspect of the story made it more interesting although I slightly wish it was a full novel and not just a compilation of short stories.
Santa in a Kilt is a wonderful story about falling in love. A Christmas to remember and building memories on. The characters are intriguing. You'll find the past influences and wall building come down with the right woman to love and build a future with.
