I have read many of Jane Gre'en's books. I am a fan but this book didn't do it for me. It felt flat. Vacation didn't hold my interest like I had hoped. I am still a fan.. just not of this book.

This was my first Green novel and as quick and easy as it was, I was left feeling flat. As though I couldn't really get into why I needed to care about this story. I was a bit disappointed.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Jane Green is up there with one of my favorite authors. The first book I ever read of hers was Jemima J and I loved her ever since.

This was a quick easy read for me, but it was not one of my favorites from her. The book seemed choppy and almost rushed at some points. Its told from an outsiders POV which makes sense, because there are three sides to every story and it helped for readers to stay partial. The story could be so so good as its about the real part of marriage. The part that no one talks about, the real part. I was looking so forward to it, but it fell flat to me.

A vacation from your spouse when things get stale sounds like a good idea. But would it make you desire your spouse more or reinforce the idea that the marriage is over?

Sarah and Eddie have been together for nine years. With two children and his intense job, keeping the marriage fresh is just too much work. When Eddie moves out, Sarah begins to experience the single mom life. With support from her book club, she dips her toe into the pool of the life not taken. Eddie is determined to repair their problems.

As with other Jane Green novels, you will laugh and cry. You will walk away with the feeling that you know this couple intimately and have taken each step of this tenuous situation with them.

I received an ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and have no obligation to do so

This is the short story of a marriage in trouble - Sarah and Eddie. Their marriage doesn't seem like an equal partnership to Sarah and Eddie seems oblivious to any issues. This leaves Sarah the only alternative to her - to separate when Eddie is offered a relocation to Chicago. The majority of the story describes their reactions to the separation and how each really feel. It was a pleasant read, but very different from the author's full length novels that deal with very complex issues.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.

This was definitely more of a short story than a novel, but it was a cute, quick read. The focus was primarily from the wife’s point of view but it was nice that you saw some of it from the husband’s point of view too. Keeping in mind this really was a novella, it doesn’t go very deep and probably wouldn’t pass the Bechdel test. That being said, it was enjoyable and you couldn’t help rooting for them.

Notes:
- interested to see when this was actually written because the references to answering machines confused me. In addition, mommies would definitely be wearing yoga pants, not sweat pants!

Oh my gosh, I love love loved this story!!! This is one of those books that you even dream about, then you know its a great book!! I wait with baited breath every year for Jane Green to release her new book, I was definitely not disappointed this year. She is such a diverse writer one never knows what they are going to get. I am recommending this to my book club and to people who want to read something new.

Not great. Jane Green usually delivers a fully-rounded, well-crafted storyline that sings because she has put so much care into the details. If Jemima J is a 10, then this novella (short and somewhat hollow) is a 5. And it only gets its 5 because Green has a mastery with descriptions and dialogue. Here, it seems she wanted to have a go at unhappy marriages and wound up on clichés and character study. Not my favorite, but not the worst book in this genre ever written. Surely, a quick read with some of the uplifting elements you get from Green. Just not one that I would bring to book club and sing its praises. Next book will surely has more to offer.

Jane Green's holiday contribution, Vacation, though not aptly named, hits all the buttons for young mothers with professionals for husbands. I try to avoid the motherhood high horse most of the time (hell, I read for vacation myself, not to wallow around), but it sure was refreshing to see a TRUE depiction of what it means to be a mother to young children--especially a stay-at-home one--with a husband who doesn't recognize that motherhood is in and of itself, a 24-hour-a-day job. The length of the novella doesn't give enough justice to the struggle to rise to above instead of bowing to the inevitable--it's pretty much written off as a Christmas miracle with the husband taking all of the blame (which isn't fair either), but all in all, Vacation brings to light normal family struggles with humor and acceptance.

A touching look at the holidays and marriage. Really enjoyed this story.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

I enjoy Jane Green’s storytelling, but I’ve always had one issue with her writing. She’s British, but she writes stories about people who live in Manhattan and other places in America. These aren’t British people, yet they use British phrases and talk like people who are not from America. It’s annoying. If she’s writing about people who live in England, fine. That style of writing makes sense. But if you’re writing about American people, they should have American voices and speak like Americans.

That being said, I was intrigued by this story and it let me down. It was very cliche. And it ended so abruptly, I thought I missed something. It was quick read though and didn’t take long to finish.

I thought it was a good novella about a troubled marriage. It wasn't anything too exciting, but I enjoy Green's writing. I do think this had a number of British phrases that were questionable since it was supposed to be in New York.

I received Vacation by Jane Green as an ARC from Netgalley. I'm a big fan of Jane Green and I've always enjoyed her books. This one was no exception. Sarah & Eddie have been married for 8 years and have 2 beautiful children - Maggie & Walker. Their life seems to be perfect but Sarah feels stuck in her life. She's happier when her husband is not around so when the opportunity arises for her husband to take a long term assignment in Chicago it seems like the perfect solution to take a break from her marriage. I have been stuck in a marriage so I could relate to how Sarah feels. Sometimes a vacation is exactly what you need to regain perspective on your life and make changes for the better. I enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the chick lit genre.

Interesting story, a little different from what I was expecting. Both main characters were well developed, both had growing and changes to make and their coming together seemed a little rushed.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have loved everything this author has written and absolutely loved this story, the characters and the whole book really.

There is not one Jane Green book that I do not absolutely love! This book is so much real life. The characters are so relatable, and the book is written extremely well!

Normally I like Jane Green's books, but this one was terrible. I didn't like how the wife was willing to give up on her marriage without trying to work things out. Talk to your spouse about how you are feeling before you jump to divorce. And the ending didn't give any explaination to what happens to them. This one is a fail. It's not even that Christmasy.

This was a really enjoyable read - I laughed and I cried. It's a story I'm sure many can relate to - growing apart from your partner.

I enjoyed that this was a short story but it fell a little short for me,, I wanted more from this story. Usually I lobe Jane’s Greens work but I also did not realize this was a reprint version. I look forward to her next story.
