This is a wonderful go-to for anyone who needs to make a beautiful baby gift. I love the way the book is organized, starting with basics and yarn selection and then moving on the the well written patterns. The photography is beautiful throughout. The problem is deciding on a pattern to start! I love the variety from blankets, sweaters and animals. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The patterns are designed with a beginner in mind, but will be a delight for an experienced knitter as well.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to knit for babies, as it is chock full of great ideas!

Debbie Bliss knitting books are always a good bet, this one included! I appreciate that there are simple patterns, but also some that would be more engaging for a more advanced knitter. The patterns are all very sweet and are things you would actually want to make for a baby. The instructions are well-written and easy to follow. The photos are beautiful.
I love all the work of Debbie Bliss, and Baby's First Knits is just as wonderful as her previous works. The designs, some of which are ideal for beginning knitters and others which will be interesting to more advanced knitters, are beautiful and very clearly presented. In addition to patterns for baby clothing, there are also ideas for adorable accessories and toys. The photos are stunning and inspiring. I can't wait to pull out my needles and one of the baby-friendly yarns the author recommends.
A Debbie Bliss knitting book is always a sure bet, whether you're a beginner or a long-time knitter. This book includes basic steps to get started knitting, and each project introduces new stitches or techniques, building on the previous sections. Plenty of photos of the finished projects, as well as step-by-step illustrations of stitches and patterns. A great choice for public library collections.
This fantastically simple book is full of wonderful knitting projects for babies. I can't wait to try out some of these patterns, especially the beautifully simplistic blankets. My only complaint would be that specific yarns were mentioned without giving the reader the yarn weight, making those wanting to explore other yarn brands have to guess at or look up the yarn weights needed to complete the projects.
Baby knits are the best! These patterns range from super simple garter stitch to more involved projects requiring colorwork and/or shaping. Instructions are clear and new techniques are explained well. Baby knits are a great way to practice new techniques since they're smaller and quicker than adult sized projects.
Thanks to Dover Publications and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I can't give this book a proper rating as I'm unable to read the acsm format that this book is in. I wish it was in a format that I could enjoy it in. I do like Debbie Bliss books and yarns.
A well presented, beautifully photographed book, this would be a great book for someone who wanted to learn to knit and the associated skills. The projects work up in complexity, with full instruction for everything from how to do the knit stitch, mattress stitch, colourwork, lace, cables intarsia, the full set of skills. It's a how to of applied learning, with cute pattern as well.
Thanks to NetGalley and Debbie Bliss for the free review copy. I'm looking forward to getting that pink wrap cardigan from the front on my needles.

Debbie Bliss certainly is one of the best pattern writers I have seen.

As a knitter, whenever I hear the name Debbie Bliss I expect to love the book and this one does not disappoint! The cover of "Baby's First Knits" shows a baby in a gorgeous sweater that draws one in to exploring the book further. The introduction is helpful, especially for a beginner knitter. It gives instruction on how to knit w/ basic stitches. The patterns are well-thought out and so perfect for babies. Every one of them would make a great gift for a new baby.
Baby's First Knits is a great basic knitting book. If you're expecting a child or grandchild - or want to knit for babies for whatever reason - this is the book for you. All the basic techniques are included. Author Debbie Bliss starts with instructions for a slip knot and the basic knit stitch, taking you through the process of making a basic baby blanket. From there, you can increase your skills with a hat, a rompers, pants, a poncho, and more complicated sweaters. If you followed the progression of patterns in this book, you'd become quite an accomplished knitter by the end of the process.
The patterns include all instructions for all the techniques, including increases, seams, weaving in the ends, plus more advanced fair isle and intarsia color work and set-in pockets. The book is geared for absolute beginners and as a refresher for more advanced knitters. The designs are basic and recommended for use with Debbie Bliss yarns. Although clearly a product tie-in, the yarns are readily available and relatively inexpensive. If you have a pattern to go with a specific yarn, your projects is more likely to be successful.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn to knit and wants to start small.
