Meg not only is a talented hand-letterer, she has a secret skill for reading people and determining their true compatibility. Unfortunately when she hides a secret message in the wedding invitation of Reid Sutherland and his fiancée, Reid spots the message and has questions..
I like that the romance grew organically from an acquaintance, to friendship, then more. And I appreciated the dynamic between Meg & Reid. It stood out from other romances in the fact that Meg was the more dominant go-getter type where Reid was subdued, reserved and go-with-the-flow. I also enjoyed that Meg's business was at the heart of the story and didn't fade to the background once she met a man. True boss babe!
This was a fun, sweet story I would recommend to fellow romance readers looking for a leading lady to root for and an adorable love interest with an open heart.
*I received an advanced ebook copy from Netgalley and Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This book was utterly charming.
Meg and Reid were beautifully written characters. They first come together over awkward circumstances, when Reid confronts Meg over a secret word she placed in the programs of his doomed to fail wedding. Their slow burn romance then unfolds gently and adorably across New York City, looking for signs — lettering that is.
Clayborn generally writes great heroes (ok, all her characters are great), and Reid is no exception. He’s kind, quiet, nerdy and lonely living in New York, and it gives him a vulnerability that just makes you want to wrap him in a hug.
I loved this book!
(Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review).
*l received an arc from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.* I really wanted to get into this book but just couldn’t. I’m sure it was a great book for others but didn’t get my interest to continue reading it.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book! It was really cute! Would definitely recommend!
This was a highly recommend book from Christina Lauren who are my favourite writing duo so I couldn’t wait to devour this book and boy did it not disappoint!
Super cute and such a quick read! Would highly recommend for all you romance lovers
I enjoyed this, although there were times I felt like I didn’t understand what was going on. The little sense of adventure as they explored the city was nice.
I had a really hard time with this book, I so wanted to love it but there was something missing for me.
I found myself skipping pages and skimming through, unfortunately this one didnt keep my attention. I couldnt connect with Reid or Meg and the storyline just fell flat for me and bored me right from the beginning. I think I will be skipping out on Kate Clayborn's next read as the writing style just wasnt for me.
This book is as wonderful as everyone says it is. I was dubious of the concept but I fell in love from the first sentence.
This was a pretty middle of the road romcom for me.
The plot goes like this: a year ago, Meg accidentally put a hidden message in Reid Sutherland’s wedding program spelling out MISTAKE, and when his relationship crumbled he comes back to her shop demanding to know how she knew they were destined to break up before he did. They get to talking after a while and become friends turned something more.
I was liking this book for the first half, pretty standard and fun little romance. Nothing spectacular but nothing that made me dislike it either, like it was good!
But the ending was just....weird? And rushed? And I don’t wanna spoil anything but it was pretty far fetched and just completely took me out of the moment and made me question everything I’d read previously.
I can definitely see why people love this one. It’s pretty funny and Meg is a very likable main character. I just think it tried to do too much.
I was able to read this book thanks to NetGalley. It was a cute fun read. I enjoyed the story line in addition to the characters. I will be looking for more from this author in the future and will be recommending this one to family and friends.
Even though I was fortunate to also get an advanced copy from Netgalley to review, I didn’t get to it before it was published, so I listened to an audiobook. I have a feeling that part of the reason I didn’t love the book as much as Daniella is because I wasn’t especially fond of the book narrator. For me, the book didn’t come across as well-written as Daniella thought in the beginning. It didn’t draw me in as much as other books have. I didn’t think the author was clear enough in the beginning in setting up what Meg had done in Reid and Avery’s wedding program, and the whole premise seemed a little too unbelievable for me. There was nothing that led up to Meg’s attraction for Reid other than her telling us that. I think the book might have been better if it had started a little earlier when she was working with Avery and Reid, so that the relationship/attraction could have been established better. That being said, by the end of the book I started enjoying it much more. There were some developments that I felt gave the book more depth which I enjoyed.
My Rating: 3.5 Stars
This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
DNFed in both print and audio
The voice really does not work for me, and it's hard to fathom either of the characters or their connection to one another. Friends of mine loved this, and I wish I felt the same.
DNF. Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for this early copy! I decided to not keep reading this one, it was not for me. Thanks!
Meg Mackworth’s hand-lettering skill has made her famous as the Planner of Park Slope, designing custom journals for her New York City clientele. She has another skill too: reading signs that other people miss. Knowing the upcoming marriage of Reid Sutherland and his polished fiancée was doomed to fail is one thing, but weaving a secret word of warning into their wedding program is another. Meg may have thought no one would spot it, but she hadn’t counted on sharp-eyed, pattern-obsessed Reid. A year later, Reid has tracked Meg down to find out how she knew that his meticulously planned future was about to implode. But with a looming deadline and a bad case of creative block, Meg doesn’t have time for Reid’s questions—unless he can help her find her missing inspiration. As they gradually open up to each other, both try to ignore a deepening connection between them. But the signs are there—irresistible, indisputable, urging Meg to heed the messages Reid is sending her, before it’s too late . .
This was simply a sweet read through and through. Both characters were likable and the writing and storyline were good. I recommend.

Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn is a fun, quirky novel. I love the use of New York, almost as if it is a character in the novel as well. With unexpected twists and turns, readers of romance will love this unique approach. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
This absolutely charming story is a love letter to love and New York. I adored both characters, who were both likable and interesting—something becoming rarer in contemporary romance. I fell in love with their story, but also their setting. The setting in this novel is almost a character itself. This sweet, beautifully executed story is a delight to fall into.
I really enjoyed the premise of the book and the characters. Their interactions were a lot of fun and the writing style using fonts and inner thoughts was really creative and much more like the way I think about situations in my head. I felt the motivations and drive behind each character was compelling and the story was one that was easy to dive into. I would recommend it!
This was so cute! I am usually a thriller reader, but this was so adorable and gave me all of the warm fuzzies. The plot was unique with the wedding invitation code, and I was totally rooting for Meg and Reid. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
The approximately two months I took reading this one doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the book, it's because the world is terrifying and my brain is fuzzy and I haven't been able to focus or read or do anything but survive. It actually was about two nice long baths worth of a read, and I really enjoyed it. Great escapism read.
I enjoyed Meg and her personal journey as much as I enjoyed the romance, there has been a focus on friendships and career and a fully rounded life in contemporary romance lately, but it is not always as well done as this. Meg's career and passions and friendships are all very important for her romance with Reid to work. Her work is a major character, not just an interchangeable quirk. We see the almost synesthesia-like letters she does when she experiences the world. How cool would that be in a movie? The fonts and shapes showing up in comic book fashion? (I pictured Dakota Johnson as Lark, btw)
The chemistry was wonderful, overall this was a lovely book I highly recommend, and makes me long for when the world is healthy again and I can go wander and explore New York City again
