This is an excellent guide to the writing process. George gives us insight into the research and planning that she does to create rich, fully formed characters and settings. Even if a reader doesn't plan to write, this behind the scenes account of writing one novel shows what a hardworking genius George is as a writer.
I have an obsession with craft books and this one was no exception. It has inspired me to consider my writing from a different perspective. I'm excited to take the author's tips and apply it to my present stage of writing. I think this will be a consistent reference book to return to when I need a bit of inspiration.
Thank you to the publisher, NetGalley, and the author for the opportunity to read this writing reference book in exchange for an honest review.
One facet I particularly enjoyed about this book were the photos woven into the narrative to support descriptive style and how to enhance setting in the writing process. I found the book well-organized with categories for improving writer's craft, but the tone did not personally speak to me as a writer. I do feel many writers will find this book beneficial.
This is a helpful guide to expanding your thinking and viewing your project from different angles. The author provides many substantial examples to illustrate her concepts. Would make a nice gift for an aspiring writer!
This has given me lots to think about with my writing. I always tend to cut, cut, cut to the core, but I need help to branch out into sub-plots and multiple threads....
