In order for a rom-com to make its way to our shelves, it's got to be great. This one was just ok- there were elements that I enjoyed, but the main characters were not my favorites and I had a hard time overlooking their flaws. I usually enjoy the enemies to lovers trope, but I don't like it when there isn't a strong element of kindness below the surface.
Sassy and fun this romantic read has a lot of sizzle. I loved the characters and the banter between them. It was a quick romantic read full of passion and fun. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
Funny and interesting tale of two brothers and a wedding planner. The way the author writes one can clearly see the action. This could so be a Lifetime or Hollywood script. Lina is smart and a stickler for details. Max is attempting to remove himself from his brother's shadow. The two band together to help each other achieve their goals. Can they ignore their growing feelings each other despite the fact that Lina was engaged to Max's brother?
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. This book had everything I love in a pick-me-up romance & I couldn’t be happier with it! I absolutely ADORED this charming story & I highly recommend it to lovers of romance.
Lina is a boss babe wedding planner who was left at the altar. She comes from a loud & fun family, but as a staple to her professional business career she has perfected the art of keeping her emotions in check. Needless to say, that became quite the challenge when, learning who she’ll work with on her chance at an incredible jobs, in steps her ex-fiancé and his frustratingly charming brother. This book is tense & sweet in ALL the right ways. I’ll be posting a full review closer to the release date.

Wedding planner Lina Santos is on the verge of a dream come true when she is approached by a hotelier who offers her the opportunity to apply for a wedding director position at her hotel. But there’s always a catch. In this case, Lina must team up with her ex-fiancé’s brother to put on a presentation—the same brother who convinced his own brother to not marry Lina.
A really great read alike for Fix Her Up and The Right Swipe. We love romances with POC! Love that Lina’s Brazilian culture was featured here and I love that Lina was Brazilian-American too because I felt very connected to her in that way being a Filipino-American.
Overall, this is a very fun read and I’m a little surprised at how low its ratings are when compared to books that are very similar. While both characters have their faults, I find them extremely likeable and their insecurities realistic. Max is very sweet without being cavity-inducing and Lina is spicy enough without making me want to spit her out.
I think Andrew’s arc was just lazily resolved. He was a little too much like a villain throughout until the very end and I would have liked to see a little more development of his character.
2 stars
I can't get over the best man is the groom's brother. And now it is not weird from them to be together? Lina and Max had a weird relationship. She hates him more than she hated her groom. I think it was supposed to be enemies to lovers, but missed the mark.
I loved the cover and the title. The premise sounded good, but I found myself asking, how was he the worst best man? Lina and Max had a lot heat and it was hard to understand why they were mad at each other in the beginning. There were some funny moments and I would try this author again.
I really enjoyed this story. This is my first book from this author. I loved the culture and wonderful characters like Tia Vivienne, Natalia, etc. It was very witty and funny. It was so sexy too. My only complaint was I don’t care for books where the characters speak a different language and there is no translation. The language was Portuguese. The heroine was not Portuguese. I don’t speak the language and it’s a pain to use goggle translate. I highly recommend this book and will look for more works from this author. I received this ARC from Netgalley for a honest review.
This is my first book I have read by Mia Sosa. I was unsure of it at first, but once I really got into the heart of the story, I devoured it. It was a really fun, steamy book so if you are into that I definitely recommend it.
The book starts with the prologue of how Lina was left at the altar and that's where the conflict starts because it's all Max's fault. When she has to work with him and his brother (her ex) to get a job that she really needs, she lies and pretends she doesn't know them. The stakes get raised really high here, but it was fun to see them getting to know each other.
Lina does play a few pranks on him to get her revenge, which I do think felt kind of immature and not necessary to the book at all. Maybe that can get cut. I did really like how they worked together and how passionate Max was about his job.
One thing I didn't get was why Max thought he was in the shadow of his older brother. Andrew kind of seemed really incompetent and it seemed like Max ended up doing most of the work for them and Andrew took credit for it. Andrew was the worst!
Both the hero and heroine have a lot of insecurities that instead of talking to each other about their fears, they keep it all inside. It causes them to pull apart from each other which kind of broke my heart for them. Never fear though, they do get their HEA!

I enjoyed this novel so much I went out and read everything else Mia Sosa has written. One thing I really enjoy about Sosa's work is that her characters come from diverse backgrounds, and those backgrounds often (but not always) play a part in the characters' development. It doesn't hurt that she also writes steamy love scenes!
Three years ago, Lina was left at the altar by her fiance Andrew. With Andrew gone someone has to break the news to the humilated bride and that terrible duty falls to Max, Andrew's younger brother and best man. The final nail in the coffin is when Andrew leaves a cryptic text message that claims Max is responsible for changing Andrew's mind on marriage. Cue the hate to love!! In the present day Lina must reconnect with this infuriating part of her past as a part of a lucrative business venture she desparately needs if she wants to keep her wedding planning business afloat. With Max as her project partner, sparks fly between this wedding planner and the world's worst best man.
I want to talk about the characters first. Lina was really great, I enjoyed her driven nature, her confidence career wise and all the glimpses into her family life that we got. I really love seeing characters who are really close with their family and I feel like it is not something I see often in books, Lina is an Afro-Brazilian woman and I like how the author never shied away from having full conversations in portugese and Brazilian foods etc. I really like when authors include aspects of cultures but don't feel the need to overly explain every reference to said culture.
Max was also cool, I think the author did a nice job of giving us a really sweet, funny male character. I don't have any strong feelings for him but he was really nice.
Onto the relationship, I think their relationship was quite cute and I really enjoyed the scenes where Lina was getting her petty revenge, it was so childish but I couldn't help but laugh. I do wanna mention however I felt like the dialogue was a bit weird and stilted at times so some jokes didn't land for me. While I thought that their relationship was sweet and I really enjoyed their scenes together I wasn't super convinced on their chemistry though. I didn't see as much sexual/romantic tension throughout the book as I would have liked to. Lina’s grudge towards Max, as funny as it was at times also felt overwhelmingly absurd because she literally didn’t even care about Andrew, the ex fiancé, nor did she mourn that relationship so I didn’t get why she was still so worked up about Max’s supposed involvement rather than being angry with the actual dude who left her at the altar in the first place. I think this aspect made the romance hard for me because she went from all this (imo) unfounded anger to being in like and love with him super quickly without much transition.
Overall I thought it was a pretty fun read but I didn't love it. Also I think the author made Andrew's character a really weird mustache twirling villain stereotype and I felt like it was so weird especially near the ending. Like yea he sucks but his villainous monologue was weird
This book was a super cute and sweet take on the hate to love trope. I loved watching Lina and Max fall in love all while dealing with their own personal conflicts. This book is special in that it made me as a reader actually care about the non-romance specific scenes and actually get invested in their personal lives. Specific things I enjoyed include the dive into Lina's Brazilian heritage through the inclusion of words and conversations in Portuguese, discussion of Brazilian foods, and other things. Max's desire to separate himself from his brother was made very relatable especially to me a person with siblings. I am a very romantic person with a kind of short attention span and so there were some scenes of the book toward the end that had me saying out loud to the book "Just get together already!" which I think can be a good thing. Overall, the development of the relationship was realistic and and it was really sweet to watch them evolve.
There was a lot to like about Mia Sosa's "The Worst Best Man." It had humor, two great MCs who communicate, delicious food mentions, and it was #ownvoices. Their enemies-to-lovers banter and hijinks at the beginning made me chuckle a bit. I really enjoyed the heroine's work competence and her ability to stand up for herself. I appreciated how the hero was respectful and took opportunities to learn. I felt the pacing was a little off--the relationship transitions were rather abrupt, and the middle lagged a little. But otherwise, on paper, it was everything I like in romance novels. But I felt like something was missing, and around the halfway point I realized what it was: passion. The story & the characters did not make me FEEL anything. I was interested in them, but politely so. Nothing about this book swept me away. And maybe it wasn't supposed to, which is fine, but it did take some of the enjoyment out for me.
This is a funny. Enemies-to-lovers, dtory line. Lina, is a total type a personality. The book starts with her being jilted . three years later, The best man is now the one person who can help her get her dream job. I really like Max - much more than Lina. . The sex was hot, and Max and Lina were fun to read about. If that is what you like definitely give The Worst Best Man a shot!
I really enjoy the relationship between Lina and Max. While the story was a little predictable, their spark was definitely cute and the book flew by.
Lina was left at the alter, but maintains her career as a wedding planner, but is trying to take the next step in her career. And, as a result, she ends up being paired with Max, her ex-fiancee's brother, as they begin working on a project for a hotel. The issue is Lina is taking her frustration out on Max and he likes her. and throughout the book you watch their relationship develop. The book was a cute read.
THIS BOOK IS MY EVERYTHING. I buddy read this with by BFF Ari and it was basically the best choice I made all year. We both laughed out loud several times and at one point I laughed so hard I cried.
I love Max. He's got insecurities and some emotional scars from a past relationship, but he doesn't let it turn him into an alphahole. He's the biggest cinnamon roll hero ever, and his relationship with his BFF Dean is so amazingly wholesome and absent of toxic masculinity that I can't even. The way he pokes and prods Lina is hilarious and reminds me a lot of my own spouse, so mayyyyybe that's part of why I love him so much. The world needs more romance heroes like Max.
And then there's Lina. Ohhhh, Lina. I really appreciate how Mia Sosa addresses the issues women of color face with expectations of and judgement about their behavior. I'm familiar with the phenomenon where women being upset about something are seen as over-reacting and emotional, where men being upset is just fine, but it was really eye opening to read about the additional complexities women of color face even on top of that. I want to hug Lina so hard, and to be a safe space for her to cry or rage or emote in whatever way she needs.
One of my key signs of a great book is if I'd want to be friends with the main character(s), and I want to go be BFFs with Lina, Max, Dean, Jaslene, and Rebecca. I was SO SAD when I finished this book because I was so reluctant to leave them and their world behind. It's also a pretty good indicator that you've got a really great book in your hands if you immediately go looking for the next book when you finish it! I don't see any information indicating this is part of a series, but I loved Jaslene and Dean so much that I need their stories. (I would not mind if they ended up together, either...) So I really hope this is just the beginning!
The Worst Best Man is a funny enemies to lovers romance.
When Lina is interviewing for a wedding planning job that could make or break her career she’s shocked to discover that her ex-fiancé and his brother, Max, are going to be a part of the interview process. Now Lina is paired with Max as she prepares a presentation in hopes of landing the job and it takes everything in hertz get along with the infuriating man.
I enjoyed Lina’s character. She was typically buttoned up and tried to keep her emotions in check but would find herself being led by her emotions when Max got involved. Max was also really lovable. I read this book quickly and enjoyed it however there were some parts of the story that felt a little slow to me. Overall, it was a fun read.
What a great premise -- a wedding planner breaks up at her own wedding, then later has to work with her ex-fiancee and the brother who caused the breakup. Definitely a "frenemies" situation, and lots of fun. The supporting characters are unusually funny and add a lot to the story.
This book had absolutely everything I wanted in a romance novel. I loved out badass, in charge MC and it was amazing to see her extended family. I loved that she wasn't white too and that the fact she wasn't white was talked about, especially when it made her career or life more difficult. Our LI was swoon-worthy and a huge dork.
I wasn't sure about the falling for your ex's brother but it was done so beautifully that it felt like they had always been meant to be.
There's snark and sass, exploration of other cultures, discussions of toxic masculinity, and a swoon-worthy romance. You want this on your bookshelf or Kindle ASAP.

I am admittedly a bit torn with this book. On one hand, it made me laugh several times, had some strong women characters, included Brazilian culture in an interesting way.... But, on the other hand, most of the conversations were a bit dry, Lina's character mostly drove me crazy with her overreactions, and the Portuguese language mixed in the way it was annoyed me, as did the trying-too-hard with diversity (within about 30 pages, we get a groom in a wheelchair, a male couple at their wedding rehearsal, and then "hippie Birkenstock" lesbians on a couples retreat run by People of Color).
Í didn't understand why everyone hated Max so much for what Andrew did. I kept expecting something big was going to be revealed, but the "big reveal" wasn't a big deal.
I really wanted more of Max's family and his side of things (other than needing to kiss Lina's ass and being turned on by her). Where we're all the interactions between brothers or mother and son?
