The Highland Outlaw is the fourth book in Campbell’s series. It was well written and grabbed the reader’s attention from the beginning. The characters were wonderful, and the plot had many layers which kept me guessing. The book was entertaining and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Shaw Sinclair and Alana Campbell are perfectly suited for each other - sparks fly from the moment they meet and only intensify as the story progresses.

Shaw Sinclair, chief of the outcast clan of Sinclairs of Caithness in northern Scotland, has made a deal with the devil. Despite his strength and lethal skills, he needs help—specifically from a woman—to accomplish his mission to bring a bairn to safety to the coast. When he meets the brave and beautiful Alana Campbell at a Samhain Festival, he decides she's the one. Alana Campbell is ready to show the world she's just as skillful with a sgian dubh as any man. Attracting the attention of the brawny chief who coerces her to join him on his journey to the coast of Scotland gives her that very opportunity. Sparks flash between them as they're forced to act as husband and wife to accomplish the deadly mission. However, when secrets threaten to tear them apart, they have to decide if their differences outweigh the reality of their feelings.
This was a really great story with plenty of action that kept the story moving. I really enjoyed Shaw and Alana’s story and look forward to the next one. I highly recommend.

Wow, that Shaw and Alana could find a HEA when they are from warring clans and he abducts her is woven together to make an intriguing story! They spend much of their time trying to stay ahead of the ones trying to kill baby, Rose, and work together even when they realize that their eventual parting is coming.

There were lots of twists and turns and secrets revealed throughout the story already full of drama and intrigue so it was hard to put the book down.

I have not read any of the previous books but it was pretty easy to read as a stand alone.

All the issues are resolved in the end and there is a great HEA but sure did not see the path that it took to get there!!

Laird Shaw Sinclair is the seventh Earl of Caithness in Northern Scotland. He would do anything to get his castle and lands back from his wicked Uncle. The wicked man who sold his land to The Campbell’s. Now Shaw has to make a deal with his enemy, the English. So his people would no longer starve and not have suffer another horrible winter. Many had lost kin to cold winters. Now he has an opportunity to get all that was stolen from him and his clan, but only a chance with his enemies sister can help him achieve his goal.

Alana Campbell sister of The laird Grey Campbell. Also a member of the Highland Rose school. She is a woman no man wants to mess with, as she can defend herself with accuracy and percussion. As she has been taught by the very best and always has many weapons hidden or her person. No matter if it is a hair pick, a dagger in her boots, or under her garter! Her aim is always true, one of perfection and can be deadly! Yet she always had a good heart why she was abducted by The Sinclair’s during the Samhain festival. A clan she was taught to believe were evil manipulators and tricksters!

Plus the fact Alana just found out her mother is still alive. A woman she believed was dead but she is a prisoner. Now Alana wants to save help her escape and save her mother, yet no one wants to help her until her brothers are back. Than she saw the Sinclairs with this filthy newborn baby feeling Shaw was the babes father, but saw they had no idea how to feed this infant. So she taught them and trusting them because of the infant, but they abduct her. As they knew this royal babe would die and he would lose everything. As the baby would only get nourishment and fed with Alana’s instruction. So they abduct her but besides that their are people looking to murder this royal child just because of these religious zealots.

Yet also during this time Alana and Shaw fall in love. He also knows her clan will want to kill him. So the stakes are high. Will he lose everything he ever wanted for the love of his enemies sister? Will they even survive with having such a large target on their backs?

Again Heather MacCollum pens another phenomenal story, t hat will keep readers on their toes. Her heroes and heroines always draw me in and another book I simply could not put down! Again it is filled with all the elements historical readers love. It is full of inspiring scenes filled with both emotion and non stop action with love and tenderness too. The heroine is no weeping wallflower she is strong and can take care of herself. Yet Shaw is the type of man who is her other half, but she knows it will be difficult for her clan to accept a Sinclair, as the man of her dreams.

I highly recommend Highland Outlaw as it is a book readers do not want to miss.

The Highland Outlaw
Heather McCollum

The Highland Outlaw is book four in The Campbells series by award-winning historical romance writer, Heather McCollum. Though part of a series, this novel is a standalone. All the books in The Campbells series are standalone, though there is some character overlap.

Shaw Sinclair, hardened warrior and Laird of Clan Sinclair, has been tasked with an important mission that could literally have life or death consequences. He enlists the help of Alana Campbell, sister of the Chief of Clan Campbell, a beautiful woman and skilled fighter. The mission requires them to be in close contact, which is both a blessing and a curse for these two members of rival clans.

The Highland Outlaw is an excellent read. Ms. McCollum has once again successfully written a novel that is masterfully executed. The plot is exciting and held my attention from start to finish. I found the characters to be interesting and believable. The highland scenery is used smartly. McCollum wisely mixes in humor to counter the serious plot. The ending is well-executed, and the accurate historical atmosphere ties all the elements together, adding another interesting aspect to the story.

This is another 5 out of 5 from this author, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romance. There is some violence and sexual content that may be offensive to sensitive readers.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review this is the next book in the Campbells series. Alana is Grey’s sister who we hadn’t heard much from since book 1 so it was nice to see her story. I just wasn’t in love with Shaw. He was at times a jerk and hard to like. The story was pretty well done but just wasn’t jumping up and down.

And this is why I love historical romance books.

I haven’t read the other books from the series yet I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything expect that I wanted to read more about these characters.

If written well, historical romances can sweep you off your feet from the very first chapter. The Highland outlaw was truly an awesome historical romance. It was packed full of action and adventure. It had the most stunningly brawny, brave and honourable hero. And a sassy, fierce, brave and beautiful heroine. These two together makes the story a page flipper.

I love historical romances set in the highland (Thank you very much Julie Garwood) and I am always on the look out to be carried away by story. And The Highland Outlaw did just that… I was transported to a whole different realm. I was consumed with the action, I was captivated with the chemistry between Shaw and Alana, I felt like I could hear my heart beating so loudly during some of their near death events. This book had it all.

I can’t wait to read more!

4 1/2 STARS
There's nothing like the British on your tail to keep you alert and on the move. With a wee bairn protected by Sinclair warriors, it can be formidable for the British. Shaw Sinclair and his warriors are on a mission. If they can get the babe to the coast of Scotland and on the ship that will take her safely to France, they can get back what was sold and taken from the clan. Shaw and his men know little about bairns and when Alana Campbell offers to help them, they take her help and her with them on the run to the coast. With the the British soldiers close behind, Shaw and Alana are drawn together, but Shaw is keeping secrets. Lots of twists and turns moving at a fairly fast pace.

I loved, loved loved this Scottish Highlander novel about Alana Campbell and Shaw Sinclair, The chief of the outcast Sinclair clan from the north of Scotland.

The Campbell clan and the Sinclair clan are not on good terms and not a lot has to happen to start a war. Shaw has taken on the assignment to get a baby from Scotland to a ship who sails to France. If this succeeds he will get his land back and his people will not be followed or chased of the land or killed.
When they take over the assignment the wet nurse to the baby has died and non of the five big strong warriors knows what to do with a baby so they have to kidnap someone who does and Shaw chooses Alana Campbell. Alana has just found out that someone she knows survived an attack on their clan so she wants to get to Edinburgh to rescue this person so she makes a deal with Shaw that if she helps them they will help her in exchange. Shaw agrees and they are of on an adventure where they are followed by English soldiers who wants to kill them especially the baby, figuring out secrets that can separate them all and a lot of romance and steamy chemistry.

It is a wonderful story where you see five strong warriors fall in love with a little baby and figuring out how to keep her safe and protected against all the dangers around them. And a woman who gets to prove that women aren’t weak and can through a Sgian dubh as well as a man. Also the plots and betrayals that happen keeps the book thrilling and suspenseful all through and it was really hard to put down.

I can definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a great Highland romance, with a lot of suspense, drama, a beautiful lovestory between two people from fighting clans, their love for a baby that is not theirs and all the secrets that can separate them if they come out.

I got this book from Entangled Publishing and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Highland Outlaw is another amazing Highland Roses story in The Campbells series. Alana and Shaw’s clans are enemies. Shaw is charged with getting a baby to safety but needs help. Alana happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is taken to help keep the baby alive. Alana is a product of the Highland School and able to defend herself using her skill against Shaw immediately. Although a stand-alone, the previous books would add to your enjoyment in reading this fourth in the series.

The first Alana sees of baby Rose is Shaw trying to comfort her and unable to feed her. The description of him ‘rocking’ Rose is undoubtedly funny! Alana is a strong female with a heart of gold, a giving and caring person. Shaw just does not take time to ask Alana to help, he insists. He is a strong highland clan leader but without a home. He is definitely honorable and does everything possible to protect Alana as they run/hide from the British officer trying to find and kill the baby. He wants his lands back for his clan.

Outlaw brings our hero and heroine together as each has a mission. Alana’s is to get to Edinburgh to find her mother. Having believed for some time that her mother had died at the same time as her father, Alana wants to find her and bring her home. Shaw puts a bit of a kink in Alana’s journey by kidnapping her. Of course, they become close falling in love with each other and with baby Rose as they head to the ‘delivery’ location. As they work together to protect her, they begin to see there is more to the issue of Shaw’s family lands than is known. Shaw is holding details back from Alana worried it will turn her against him.

Shaw Sinclair is willing to do anything to get back his clan's ancestral home. So when he is tasked with escorting a baby to safety in exchange for his home being given back to him, he will do what has to be done to achieve his end goal. He doesn't know how to take care of a baby, so when Alana steps up and tries to help him during the festival, he decides that she needs to go with them for the rest of the journey. If she doesn't, the baby might not make it there alive.

Alana can't believe that she has been kidnapped by the chief the Sinclairs. His clan has a horrible reputation and they are feuding with her own clan. She fights Shaw at the start of the journey, but soon realizes that she will do anything for the baby in her care, even if it means that she must act like she is married to Shaw.

Sparks fly whenever Shaw and Alana are near one another. Can their masquerading as spouses turn into a truth that will give them their HEA?

I loved Alana and Shaw's story!! Shaw was desperate to get him home back, so when he saw the opportunity to help that come about, he jumped on it. I don't think that he thought about what all that could happen. I loved watching Alana fall in love with the little one they were transporting. It's not often that you have a child be a central part of the story and it was a nice touch. I was laughing out loud at the bantering between Shaw and Alana, but under all the back and forth, you could see that they were falling for each other. This was a great addition to the Campbells series!

Received in exchange for a honest review.

For me Shaw made this book. When he cradled that little girl I melted. Him whipping his shirt off so the little one can be closer to him I went to goo. This man sleighed me. He was amazeballs. He was sexy, sweet, brusque, strong, gentle, loyal and just all around swoony.. When he begins this journey for this little girl it was for his clan and as he got to know the wee one and Alana, his heart still wanted to help his clan but also this baby and Alana. You see him fall in love with both the baby and Alana and it’s beautiful to see. The whole group of men fall in love with the baby and are loyal to each other they even protect Alana. Shaw’s forgiveness of wrongs to him and others is wonderful and with Alana’s help he is able to move on from his guilt and let go.

Alana is a strong girl out to prove herself and find her way. she is caring, kind and loyal but also fierce and smart. When she meets Shaw you feel that instant attraction but she holds back due to who he is. Only she is surprised by him because he stands up for her. I think that helps to show her that he isn’t as he seems. But than he does something she doesn’t like and he is down on the bad list again. His reasoning is understood only he should have gone about it differently. Along the way their two goals come together and the dynamic between Alana and Shaw change. As they get to know one another they learn to trust each other. They learn about each other and their pasts. Alana learns about his clan and that not all is as it seems with her family and his. She sees the suffering his people are going through and what her clan is doing to them as well. She sees a man who is loyal and doing what he can for his people trying to give them a chance not only for survival but to thrive once more. He is protective of the clan but also her and the little one in his charge. The danger that they face together and how they work together in face of the danger is great. The romance is a slow burn that just has you melt from the steaminess behind the looks, actions and gestures from these two. The faceoff was heartbreaking for Alana and eyeopening for Shaw. These two lean on one another and Shaw when he dives in that water had me on the edge of my seat hoping..The story is just wonderful and full of family, love, loyalty, discovery of self and danger. You are kept on the edge of your seat hoping Shaw and his clan and Alana make it through. Rooting for Shaw and Alana to get together and find their happy ever after for Shaw respects and supports Alana. And she believes in him and sees he is compassionate and kind. He sees she is that as well. They belong together and support one another but also respect each other. a great adventurous and wonderful tale filled with danger, love, friendship and family from beginning to end.

The Highland Outlaw was my second Heather McCollum novel to read. I enjoy her writing style as she ties in many story lines to create one. In the beginning, this story moved a little slow for me. While I found it interesting, it just did not draw my attention. It began to pick up about a third of the way through the book, and I was finding it difficult to put down! I liked both main characters, but Shaw was definitely my favorite. H was very strong, tough, and loyal to his family. The only part of the novel that I did not like the scene with her mother. I really wish the author would have chosen to write that part differently. It felt too "staged". Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Highland romances.

The Highland Outlaw is the fourth volume in The Campbells series of which I didn’t read the previous books. However that doesn’t pose a problem for the comprehension of the story apart from what concerns the young girls school where the heroine is from. We meet Alana and Shaw during a Samhain Festival where the second, looking for a wet nurse to care for a baby in his charge, decides to kidnap the first one for this role.

Alana is a strong young woman, determined, with a big heart, but a bit stubborn: she’s ready to go alone to deliver her mother when she learns she’s not dead as everyone thought but a prisoner in Edinburg. When she’s kidnapped she can’t neglect the baby even if she decides to sulk and ignore the hero and his friends. She’s quickly saddened by what the clan Sinclair endures and she does her most all through the novel to help Shaw to accomplish his mission, but she keeps her feet on the ground by asking him to help her in return liberating her mother. I didn’t appreciate that she jumps to conclusion about the hero without listening to his version. Fortunately that doesn’t last too long seeing the circumstances.

Shaw is a decent hero, strong but nice deep-down, and most of all respectful toward Alana even if he kidnapped her, trying to protect her even from himself. He had a difficult childhood and he’s ready to do anything to gain back the clan’s land his uncle sold to pay his gambling debts. He’s also very ignorant of how to care of a baby, and if he chooses the heroine at first it’s because she has a big bosom (he doesn’t hesitate to tell her that in her face). He has a tendency to close up when the heroine asks questions and he’ll need some times to open up a little about his past and the life in his clan.

Their couple is cute, the attraction between them is fast, which brings a lot of sensuality between them, but Shaw really tries to resist on one part because he feels responsible about the young woman’s presence in the group, and on the other part because he hides a secret concerning the day the heroine’s parents died. It’s Alana who yields first to their desire and arouses the hero in order for him to yield too, on the pretext that nobody really notices her and so her chastity isn’t really important (she’s just the chef’s sister so I don’t really believe she’s so useless and invisible).

During their whole journey they are chased by English soldiers wanting to retrieve and kill the baby before they get to their destination, for a reason that’s explained quite fast. So we have some battle scenes quite descriptive without being too bloody. I thought the plot with the baby and the couple’s story were quite balanced, and the ending of both seemed satisfying to me, even if I rushed to Wikipedia to compare the novel to the historic reality.

All in all I thought this reading wad pleasant but I wasn’t really hooked.

The Campbells #4, This can be read as a stand alone. I did take a bit before I really got into the book but overall I did like it. Alana Campbell is one fierce lady when Shaw Sinclair kidnapped her to take care of the baby she didn't go easily and Shaw didn't walk away unscathed. What annoyed Alana so much was that she had just received news that the mother she thought dead was alive and held prisoner. Alana was trying to convince her people to rush to rescue her when Shaw distracted her. But once she realizes they are going in the same direction she makes a deal she helps them they help her.
Along the way the sexual tension between Shaw and Alana grows stronger. Shaw tries to remember he's doing this for his clan but his feelings for Alana and the baby grow deeper.

Overall, I did enjoy it, it was a nice read. As I said it took me a while to get into it, it was nothing in particular it just didn't grab me until almost halfway through. I did like the characters I really liked Shaw. It had a nice strong finish and very nice HEA.

Chief of the Sinclair clan, Shaw Sinclair’s is a hard and rough Highlander. His wicked uncle took over after his father died and abused him, his sisters and his mother until finally one day Shaw killed him and became the rightful Chief of the Sinclair. He’s traveling with a newborn baby and need a women to take care of her when he meets Alana Campbell at a Samhain Festival, he decides she's the one to help him. He has a mission to accomplish to bring a bairn to safely to the coast. What a fast pasted action filled story as these two travel across country soon the sparks fly and their passions smolder. They each have secrets and they will need to decide what’s more important their differences or their feeling for each other. A captivating story with wonderful characters I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.

I don't know what drew me to the Highland Outlaw, but I think it has to do with my soft spot for Scottish historical romances. I mean kilts am I right?

Alana Campbell just wants to prove to the world that women can do everything men can. Better even. When at the festival with her fellow Rose warrior/scholars, she comes face-to-face with Shaw Sinclair. He's a mountain of a man who needs serious help to take care of a baby.

When Alana offers to assist Shaw to feed the poor baby in his care he seizes his chance and kidnaps her. Now on the road Alana and Shaw strike a deal, she'll help him care for the baby and he'll help her free her mother from captivity.

Now, of course, people are on their trail to kill the child and whoever gets in their way so we get some amazing action scenes, blood, and a very loveable dog who loves Alana enough to attack anyone who tries to harm her.

Toss in a romance between Shaw, who will do anything to get his land back for his family, and Alana who just wants to be loved, and you have a very fun romance. I enjoyed Alana and Shaw's characters very much. Shaw was the kind of man any woman would swoon over, I think. He was respectful and never tried to force Alana into anything when she was in his care. Alana was so brave and never spent her time wallowing over things she couldn't change. I just loved them both so very much!

If I had any complaints it would be that the book dragged a bit for me at times. I'm not sure why, but some parts just felt more drawn out than they needed to be. Other than that aspect I did enjoy the pacing overall. I read this book in about two sittings and struggled to put it down each time I had to.

The Highland Outlaw was a fabulous read about two warring clans who come together to take care of a child and each other.

Rating: 4.5
