When live happens different then you planned
Cindy Woodsmall, New York Times best-selling author of Amish novels and her daughter-in-law Erin Woodsmall take the readers to an Old Order Amish family in their novel "The English Daughter" published by WaterBrook & Multnomah. Jemima lived the live of a typical Amish woman: putting marriage and family first and raining her four children, dealing with her single sister-in-law Abigail who has an attraction to Chris, a fellow who has not yet decided if he wants to be Amish or English, ... Now she has to deal with the mystery of her husband Roy's regular disappearances. How will she react when her live is totally turned upside-down and her dreams of owning a food truck are destroyed because the savings are gone? Will there be a way to get out of the situation?
This was the second book by Cindy and Erin Woodsmall which I read (after "As The Tide Comes In"). Once again they created great believable characters and a realistic story line with the topics of lies, deceit, and guilt,, but a book that touches also the topics of drugs, adultery, the clash between two worlds (Amish and English), and grace. I appreciated also the fact that the book contains a reader's guide which can be also used for a book club. It is an enjoying relaxing read and I highly recommend it for readers to love to read about the Amish, their way of live and their struggles.

This Amish family drama was both interesting and full of emotion. Everything about Jemima’s life seems to have come apart. Her life savings is gone and she can’t carry out plans that meant much to her. It appears her Amish husband has been unfaithful to her and now he is wanting her to raise a baby that it appears he has fathered with an “Englisch” woman. Jemima feels trapped in her Amish life and that she has nowhere to turn for help. Her commitment and love for her own young children is the only anchor in her life. Finding a way to forgive her husband, Roy, seems impossible and she feels trapped in her marriage. But finding love for the tiny Englisch baby, Heidi, seems to be the most difficult thing of all. How can she find the strength to raise and take care of this child?

I felt compassion for Jemima and the authors did a good job of communicating her confusion and anger, which leads her to despair. Roy, her husband, has made things much worse by lying to Jemima for months. Rebuilding their marriage seems impossible. Roy was not my favorite character in this story. Even when he expressed his deep love for Jemima, he still seemed weak. There are two strong supporting characters in this book. Chris and Abigail. who help Roy and Jemima. Their story, although secondary, is a good one, and rounds out this story.

There’s a strong theme of extending forgiveness and relinquishing the fear of being hurt by someone you trusted. There’s also a theme of putting faith in God to guide you when your own strength seems to be gone.

This was at times a hard story to read, but the ending is well worth reading the whole book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

An unusual tale of actions and consequences set in an Amish community. Every one has goals; a dream they plan and save to have "someday". In The Englisch Daughter, someday has come but plans have been derailed through lies and deceit. Cindy and Erin Woodsmall write some of my favorite books. They tell stories that hit you in the heart, In this one, a young mother must face the consequences of her husband's actions and make decisions that will set her family's future on an ever changing path. With overall grace, the Woodsmall's keep readers coming back for more.

I enjoyed reading this book about a young Amish family; who faces the destruction of a couple of families and how they face the trail and tribulations of a marriage breaking down due to infidelity that may or may not have occurred. The book is a page turner that’s hard to put down, the story involves a married couple with problems, a couple who in the making and it young man who needs to decide is he Amish or turning towards Englisch. The book is also set apart from others is discussions questions so a book club could discuss with each other. I like to read about how the Amish live and how I can incorporate their style into my own life.

Riveting! That describes the many emotions and issues the co-authors emphasize in this book – hurt, anger, deceit, lying, stealing, misuse of money, sadness, drugs, fighting, love, grace, acceptance, mistrust, trust and forgiveness, just to name a few. I’m not sure I’ve seen so many different emotions in one Amish book.

I loved this book and read it in one day as I couldn’t put it down – I had to know how these many issues were going to be resolved.

I highly recommend this book as it is definitely a favorite of the multitude of Amish genre books I have read. I received a copy of this book from WaterBrook & Multnomah through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Cindy Woodsmall and her daughter-in-law Erin have joined their mighty pens to create an Amish novel that speaks to many marital problems that are common in most Englisch marriages--secret families, money disappearing without the other spouse's knowledge, and an innocent child.

Jemima and her husband, Roy, have a horse farm that provides their livelihood, but Jemima has always dreamed of having a food truck to serve traditional Amish foods to Amish and tourists alike. When it comes time to buy the food truck, there is no money to buy it, and Roy's secrets come tumbling down around his ears.

Jemima has seen her marriage growing colder without understanding why, and she wants to bring it back. Cindy and Erin work through the plot to show how healing takes place, with a touch of grace and a whole lot of forgiveness. They have also included a second plot that melds excellently with the primary plot. Their combined talents have created the best Amish novel that I have read in a while. There were times of laughter, times of tears, times of anger, times of sadness all included in this book. Five stars, two thumbs up, and an Amish food truck up the road.

Waterbrook/Multnomah and NetGalley provided the book I read for this review. I was only asked to share my honest opinion.

THE ENGLISCH DAUGHTER by CINDY WOODSMALL is a most enjoyable read. The story takes place in an Amish community, but it is not like any other Amish novel I have read. It is an honest book and one I can really recommend for the lovely story and good Christian message.
Roy and Jemima Graber's marriage is not the same after Roy and their daughter Laura are injured in a buggy accident. Roy realises he has become addicted to pain medication after an incident that changes their lives and threatens to completely destroy their marriage. He tries to make things right by giving up the medication, keeping his activities a secret and trying to make things right in his own strength.
Roy relies quite a lot on his sister Abigail who has taken some time off to help him on his horse farm. When Chris Fisher comes to work for Roy, the very independant Abigail is attracted to him, although she admits to not having much faith in men.
Tiffany, an ex girlfriend of Roy's, is a narcissistic addict who is willing to sell her child to the highest bidder.
The author deals with all kinds of relationship issues. It is a sensitively written book and the characters' pains and struggles are well described. Such issues as unfaithfulness, addiction, worldliness, forgiveness, repentance and the importance of walking in truth with one another are dealt with.
The Englisch Daughter is well worth reading.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Waterbrook & Multnomah. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

Thanks goes to the publisher, via Net-Galley, for the chance to read and review The Englisch Daughter by Cindy Woodsmall in advance of publication. This is an Amish Fiction novel. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.

The Englisch Daughter is a riveting novel that held me in its thrall from the first page to the last. At times, it had my heart stopping as I waited for what would happen next. The writing is emotional, and the plot is spellbinding. This story will stay with me a long time and will go in my keeper file.

There are several central characters in this book. Jemima has gone through almost losing her husband and daughter in a horrific buggy accident, both of them have challenges. Her husband has been through hell from dealing with Opiate addiction, to being manipulated by a very troubled young woman, to anxiety that if his wife learns what he’s done, the emotional pain will be more than she can handle.

Abigail is Roy’s sister, and she’s been impacted by the manipulation from the woman as well. She planned to partner with Jemima in running the food cart, she’d planed on purchasing, but Roy has spent all the money. She also has relationship issues and has never dated anyone more than a few weeks. Chris is another main character, and he also has his own set of issues as well. When an attraction develops between him and Abigail, their issues threaten to keep them apart.

I could feel the heartache and pain from all these wonderful characters. This made The Englisch Daughter a fascinating reading experience. The love stories involved are emotionally charged, the character development is amazing.

If you enjoy Amish fiction with compelling characters and a soul wrenching plot, then you will love The Englisch Daughter as much as I did. I highly recommend this book. I always know I’m in for a fantastic reading experience when reading one of Ms. Woodsmall’s outstanding novels. Happy reading!

Wow, this is one intense book to read filled with complex characters and plots. This story is about Roy and his infidelity within an Amish community that is filled with deceit and lies until the truth is revealed. Jemima and Roy marriage is strained due to his behaviors. Jemima and Abigail, Roy’s sister, are devastated when they are told there are no funds left in the savings account to fulfill their dream of a food truck. Bring in another Amish man Chris to help Roy on his horse farm, only to discover he is assisting his addict brother with his gambling debts by fighting for money. The characters have several unique circumstances and issues to overcome. This story is filled with true to life issues to overcome; however, there is a faith message of forgiveness, God’s love, romance and mercy even after suffering intense pain and sorrow of rejection.

This is a well penned story by Cindy and Erin Woodsmall confronting some modern issues. I’m never disappointed in reading their books as they are relatable stories about real life issues.

Thank you to NetGalley and Waterbrook publisher for an opportunity to read this advance book. I was not required to write a positive review but have shared my own thoughts as this book is definitely a 5++ star read.

They must be New Order Amish.

Ooh, I would eat at that food truck.

Who keeps texting him?

Oh boy, she roofied him.

One fit, and Abigail is in the category of "raging female"?

Anybody do a DNA test?

Jemima has depression.

Aw, his parents are nice.

This book is a great reflection on marriage.

Jemima has balls of steel.

The Englisch Daughter is not your typical Amish story. I found this book to be very emotional. I am not sure how I feel about this book. Cindy Woodsmall has written my favorite Amish book of all time, When The Heart Cries, but this book fell a bit flat for me and I didnt love it. Still a fan of her work though.

Jemima has always followed the rules. She stays humble, raises her children according to the rules, and is a good Amish wife. However, when her world comes crashing down due to secrets kept by her husband Roy, will she be able to forgive and move on? Will the little baby be a stark reminder of betrayal?
Cindy Woodsmall has a way with her Amish stories. She creates her characters to be realistic. The reader wants to continue turning the pages in order to find out how each situation will turn out. I love how we see just how each character feels and grows. The idea of forgiveness and love ring throughout this story. I look forward to more. I received a copy through Netgalley. A favorable review was not required.

A delightful about an Amish family and the problems that they are having in their marriage due to the husbands secrets. However, it touches on other issues such as infidelity, addiction, family, loyalty, culture , love and religion. It is a book that you do not want to put down.

Have you ever had an author that no matter what you read by them, you are always left feeling contentment and joy. That is Cindy Woodsmall for me. And her daughter Erin has joined her on some books recently, and those books are just as wonderful to me. I am not even sure where to start with all the good things I want to say about The Englisch Daughter, co-authored by the two of them. In the story, Roy and Jemima have been married for about ten years, but the last year has been rough on them. Roy and their daughter had been in an accident the previous year and badly hurt. Jemima was on bed rest during their recovery time due to a high risk pregnancy. When Jemima finds out that Roy has used all of her savings without her knowledge, she is heartbroken and confused. When he brings home a baby by another woman, her anger and pain are devastating. One of the things I love about Woodsmall's books is that you truly feel every emotion. I wanted to cry and yell and rage right along with her. But, I also felt Roy's pain. He was hurting too and he was so disappointed in himself. In the story we also meet Roy's little sister Abigail. She is a school teacher who has remained single because she finds men have too much baggage. When she meets Chris, though, it seems she is forced to look deeper and see what God has planned for her. Each of these four characters are deeply true to life. They feel and love and hurt and smile and grow in God's grace and abundant care throughout the book. I would highly recommend this book! I will be eagerly awaiting the Woodsmall ladies' next release. I received a free copy of this story from Net Galley for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I think that maybe Amish fiction isn't my favorite genre. While this was an okay story, I didn't love it. I enjoyed watching the different relationships, I was interested in the teachings of the Amish and how it had a hand in this story, but it was just okay for me. Infidelity, hiding a child out of wedlock, choosing to be in or out of the faith, choosing to open a heart to love and forgiveness. All these are topics in this story. It was strange to see cell phones and Ubers in this one. I apparently don't understand current Amish life at all! It was interesting to get a little peek into what it actually does look like.

This was a quick read, which was nice. If you're looking for a new look at Amish life, this one is for you. The love and forgiveness is sweet and it did make me consider what kinds of choices I would make had I been in a similar situation. That tells me the writer at least did a good job there to get me thinking!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC for my honest opinion.

The Englisch Daughter was well written and the plot fleshed out. And while the characters were explained individually, they have so many problems and secrets its hard to identify with them. I should have known this book was a risk when Amish people were using cell phones.

I received this book complimentary from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.
I really started this book so hesitantly. I didn’t like it for the first few chapters. It took me to maybe 25% before I had solid interest. Once I got there, it flew. I am really pleased to have read this book. Jemima, Roy, Abi and Chris were great protagonists and I really enjoyed each of their perspectives. I am glad that I read this and learned about it. I feel like I learned a bit about Amish culture which is cool. I am really pleased with this book and l will keep an eye out for future books by this author.

What a great story! This book will make one think of others and the trials they go through in their life, just like we all have. This story does the heart and mind good. The story will hook in the first couple of pages and you will be kept in until the very end.
