I really enjoyed getting to know Tess and Cole. They came together pretty fast and resisted the fall as best they could but they fell together naturally in the end, as they were meant to be.

Cole was stubborn and resistant to change. Tess was smart but apprehensive. For some reason, these two worked for me. Though Cole especially was frustrating at times, his development translated well in Ms. Flynn’s storytelling. It was easy to set aside expectations and just experience the events with the characters. The book is not only well written, it had emotional moments, funny moments, and certainly happy moments.

As someone who reads a few hundred books a year, I can tell you that some plots feel recycled. That is not my experience with Ms. Flynn’s books. Each, including this one, brings something unique or fresh to the table. Looking forward to the next book.

This is just the kind of read I needed after a hectic few weeks ! It's fun, easy and the people are so real !
I fell in love with Tess with the first sentence " ....was just all peopled out. " she just got me from the word go !

Cole is a jock but he's also gentle and kind and when the going gets tough he mans up and comes to the party.
I can see how easy it is to loose your heart to this wonder !

Thank you for an epic read that was just what my soul needed !

Awk-Weird is the 2nd book released in the Ice Knights series that started with Parental Guidance.
Tess has to be one of my new favorite heroines with her awk-weird ways and truly adorable moments. She truly is nerdy, but perfectly encapsulated her nerdiness and relished in it.

Cole stole my heart with his neat-freak ways and his love for Tess. He wanted to control everything in his life, however, he couldn't control that Tess had conceived the night they got together. I found him charming and relatable in how he absolutely hated change.

A true rom-com that makes you tear up, laugh out loud and grin from ear to ear. I felt that Flynn did an amazing job developing these characters into true adults that communicate and show their feelings.

I had such high hopes for this book, but lately third person books seem to be a miss for me.

While I appreciated the premise of this book, it just completely missed the mark for me. There were so many things that aggravated me and made me want to DNF this book. I pushed through, since I had enjoyed previous books by this author. I can usually finish a book in a day, but this one took me several. I just wasn’t invested in this hero and didn’t really care if he got hit by a bus.

This one didn’t win me over. Hoping for better things from Avery Flynn next time.

The thing about blogging that I love the most is the fact that I get a chance to find some amazing new authors and their backlists which my never ending TBR might groan at; but yay for never going out of things to read :D

Case in Point – Avery Flynn; an author I had never heard of; but the current book’s blurb had me intrigued and interested right from the start! Being an awkward, weird and quirky girl myself, I am all for heroines who embody the same quirks in them – that pretty much makes it a fun and relatable read!

Tess, our heroine is a veritable queen of social awkward – ness and the queen of facts – her quirks aren’t loved by many, so she has a lifetime of getting used to being lonely. Her growing up years were of the lonely sort, mostly cause her mother used to drop her off at her relatives for weeks at times, so she became used to being invisible, just so she wouldn’t be considered a burden.

Cole, on the other hand, a professional hockey player (or a Thor lookalike, like Tess calls him!) is a little bit obsessed with having everything in order – it has a calming effect on him; the same plays used in every game, the same on - off girlfriend from high school and a set future schedule that he knows he will accomplish. He doesn’t really do well with change.

Tess and Cole are veritable opposites of each other, but a wedding where Cole’s ex is on a date with another, leads to some very fun times, between Tess and Cole – something neither of expect to last beyond that one night.

But life has a way of laughing at set plans; and that’s exactly what happens with Tess and Cole; when a surprise pregnancy and leaky plumbing throws obstacles in their grand plans of just co – parenting this surprise baby.

Living together makes for an interesting plot – it’s hilarious when two opposites come together, but its also heart warming to see them both grow, ‘not just individually, but also together, even with their own insecurities played havoc with their emotions.

Awk –Weird is the book that encompasses WHY communication is important in any relationship – yet somehow the author made this more of an emotional read, and one that I definitely enjoyed.

Avery Flynn is an author whose works I will definitely be picking blurb unseen; cause that’s how much I adored Awk – Weird; not to mention the sneak peak of the next book we got at the end of this eARC!

Just kill me now. This book has already stolen my breath away and I don't know if I am going to survive the after-effects this book has caused me. Send help because I have a serious book hangover, ya'll.

This is a story that spoke to my heart in so many ways. One of the things that I love about Flynn's books is that she has very realistic characters. You can easily find bits and pieces of yourself in each of her characters like I did with Tess and Cole in this book. With this book, Tess is a nerd and since I am a proper nerd I fell into pieces over her. I really connected with her in so many ways. Cole, while he had loving parents, had an unpredictable childhood since he had to move around a lot because of his father's job. Because of that, he is in constant need of order in his life. Right down to pre-prepared meals and bedtimes. Both Tess and Cole experience such incredible personal growth in this book. It was such a beautiful thing to witness. Tess throws Cole's predictable life into chaos and Cole makes Tess see that not everything is always temporary in life. Their journey to happiness together touched my heart.

I love this entire cast of characters. I have read many of the other books that contain these characters and I have fallen in love with each of them along the way. I love the way that they pop up in other books within this amazing fictional world. I am seriously anxious for the next book from this world! When the author runs out of characters to write about I might just die. (Avery, please don't run out of characters. Pretty please? :happy face emoji:)

Overall, this is by far my favorite Flynn book to date. These characters just got me and I got them. Their love story was beautiful and the growth that they experienced within themselves individually was inspiring. Flynn's books are always feel-good stories that have the right amount of emotions, heat, and humor. In other words, they are perfect and you will fall head over heels for them. Just saying. I can't recommend this one enough. It is definitely my new favorite. Thanks so much, Avery Flynn! You have done it again!

There's simply no stories from the originally talented Avery Flynn which doesn't keep me laughing, and Awk-Weird is no exception. Seriously though, the heroines tend to be adorkable to keep me laughing, and Tess fits that mold perfectly. She has a very analytical mind which takes over her big heart, while the hero, Cole, has the moves which not only helps him with women, but also out on the ice since he's a hockey player too. They have serious chemistry which has her "climbing that tree like a cat" (her hilarious words not mine) at her bestie's wedding rehearsal. She knew that it was a one off, especially since she's the kind of girl so many men overlook, so what could go wrong?! Famous last words as the stick turned positive, and now the story really gets hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing throughout, and by the end of this delightful read, my stomach muscles were so mad at me as they were sore. I'm not willing to say anymore, because honestly, it's just best if you experience the genius that is Avery Flynn blindly, so one click this perfect rom-com ASAP! You won't be disappointed, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Once again Avery Flynn captures your attention with a quirky heroine who will take charge of any situation no matter how “awk-weird” it is. I loved every moment of this book.

I read Awk-weird by Avery Flynn standalone and was hooked from the opening pages!

A one night stand that become so much more... I read this book standalone and it was my first book by the author and it was delightful

Professional hockey player Cole and shy and nerdy flower shop owner Tess have a connecting you can feel from the moment the meet making the one-night stand the book is based on feel real.

Cole wanting Tess to believe he is vested was perfect and made me fall in love with him.

The author is now one on my radar and it is so great to have another voice to enjoy reading.

The how Cole and Tess take an "oops" and find a forever happy is so well done.

I look forward to reading more in the Ice Knight's series.

5 Stars

The newest book in the Ice Knights series is sweet, hot and hilarious! Tess and Cole both have distinctive personalities formed from unconventional childhoods. When they cross paths at the wedding of their friend Lucy, what follows is a sexy, funny adventure between two people who went from not knowing each other to future co-parents. Of course the path to happily ever after is never smooth but with this cast if characters you will not want to stop until you reach the end!

3.5 stars. I thought this was until the end - waaaiting for these two to figure out their relationship!

Although I picked up the book because I am a sucker for an accidental pregnancy trope story, I liked both of these characters a lot. I could identify with many of Tess' quirks and feelings and this definitely drew me into the story. I felt for her, being the only single person in her group, always feeling slightly outside and awkward in social situations. Cole is a good looking pro hockey player that seems to have it all - however he has many quirks of his own and despite the outside appearance of things is also a bit awkward and weird! He is a creature of habit and DOES NOT like change. So much so that he has been off-again/on-again with the same girl for years. He and Tess meet and hook up when they are off - and it seems to be for good this time although Cole has a tough time being okay with it.

Despite the fact that the story is about them being forced together by the pregnancy, there actually isn't that much fanfare about the pregnancy itself. The story mainly focuses on these two basically strangers having to get to know each other and decide if they are going to just be co-parents to this baby or if there is something more between them and if they can both get beyond their personal demons and hangups to actually take a chance on the feelings that are growing between them...

Probably my biggest beef with the overall story was that Cole still seemed so hung up on his ex, despite that they had broken up over 6 months before meeting Tess. I felt like it was more that the ex was part of his routine more than any leftover feelings on his part for her but it took him FOREVER to see the light about this! I might've enjoyed this story more if this hadn't been a recurring refrain for Cole and taken almost until the end of the story for him to fully recognize this and share it with Tess. It seemed to hang over her head all the way through and get in her way of giving the relationship with Cole a chance. The ex herself only appears like twice in the book and really doesn't feature at all outside of the specter of her in Cole and Tess' minds!

Still I did enjoy the story and it definitely kept me turning the pages to see if they were going to work things out or not! The ending was a wee bit rushed too but still was a good outcome.

I sat on this review for over a month, not sure what to do with my feelings about Awk-Weird.

On one hand, I read this book very quickly (in less than 24 hours), and I enjoyed the writing style. Avery Flynn writes book that I like to read, and I found that I didn't want to put it down.

But the couple... I wanted to pull my hair out.

So much could have been solved with some very simple discussions between the two MCs. Yes, I know, that was part of their baggage and issues, but it made me want to bang my head against the wall numerous times.

Also, if you've read a few Avery Flynn books, you'll start to notice a bit of a pattern...

We get insta-lust, miscommunications, friends/sip-and-paint, and big love declarations at the end. I felt a bit like I've read this story before because, even though the plot was different, the formula was too familiar. I also struggled with the fact that the GUY messed up, but the girl ended up apologizing. No thanks. I need grovel-porn in my books, especially when the guy screws up in a big way.

Three stars for readability, but I still wanted more from this couple.

If there's one thing I can count on from Avery Flynn it's her sense of humour that's always pervasive throughout her books. She writes charming, funny, and awkward so well that every book I've read of hers has been entertaining and always brings a smile to my face. Naturally I was all over it when it came to Awk-Weird, and come on, that's one brilliant title!

Tess and Cole meet the night before a wedding, neither of them are in a particularly great mood. She unwittingly gets pulled into a strange trivia game between Cole and his Ice Knights teammates. Cole and Tess are a super duo of crazy information and data. They're basically the phone-a-friend lifeline you want to keep in your back pocket.

Tess and Cole grew up with a lack of stability and adapted to their circumstances in different ways. Tess who bounced around family members as a kid felt the strain of trying to fit in and eventually developed a penchant for blurting out factoids as a way to cope. Cole's family moved around a lot and he found one thing gave him the stability he craved: hockey. These are the things that give them comfort, like a security blanket and explains plenty about their personalities and view about life. I like that Cole's not what one would expect of a popular athlete being a bit of a domestic guy who keeps a neat home, bakes to de-stress, would rather stay in and party it up, and most impressively, is a one-woman guy. Yeah, he's kind of a unicorn which makes me have massive heart eyes emojis for him. Tess' tendency to babble random facts when she's feeling awkward or under pressure is just a part of who she is, and her friends and Cole never make her feel bad about it. That Cole can keep up with her fast-working brain and match her intensity is freaking sexy. When she ends up pregnant thanks to their one-night stand and has to move in with him thanks to peculiar circumstances, his structured life and her spunky attitude clash often. It also upends his fantasy about his ex for whom he's still pining after hoping that their on again, off again relationship will be back on. Tess recognizes the temporary nature of their arrangement - she's used to temporary since that's been her entire experience growing up - so she's not exactly holding out hope that Cole will magically forget his ex and see her as a possible fixture in his life, even if she is pregnant with his baby.

Awk-Weird is such a sweet, entertaining and sexy read. I mean, we've got a a guy who looks like he could be Thor's brother and a woman who's gorgeous and both of them unbelievably smart. I also think it's wonderful that Avery Flynn has created a sensitive hero much like she did in Parental Guidance. These guys have insecurities that they're not proud of but they don't act out negatively because of them. I'm so grateful for that. And let's be honest that there's a little bit of Tess in all of us with our quirks and silliness seeking to belong. Together they make a positively charming couple. Throw in Kahn, Tess' cat from hell as Cole likes to put it, and you're treated to some funny scenarios.

I absolutely loved Awk-Weird by Avery Flynn. Tess is awkward, quirky and entirely lovable. Cole is handsome, sexy, yet entirely down to earth. The two made a perfect romantic pair for me., I let this book sit for months for 2 reasons: 1) I didn’t think I would love it because it’s a romance book and 2) it’s part of a series. I found that I loved the romance-not the sex so much I. It’s graphic ness, which I’m over but would have loved 20 years ago- and the story was a stand also be and I didn’t feel like I missed anything by not reading the first book. I may go back for Fallon’s story, and may pursue the next story, but I feel satisfied with Tess and Coles story. I enjoyed being a part of it.

"This has to be one of my favorite stories of the year. Not only did I laugh until I cried, but there was such an emotional tug with Tess. But little did I know that Cole was going to make it all better.
You have got to read this book, even if it is to cheer on that awkward girl for her to get her HEA. "

Awk-weird is a very cute, sexy romance novel. Avery Flynn is one of my favorite contemporary authors in the romance genre. Awk-weird follow the love story between Tess and Cole. Tess is the awkward florist whom love trivia. Cole is the Thor-like Hockey player whom recently broke off with his on and off again girlfriend. These two have a stream one night stand at the rehearsal dinner of their friend’s wedding. A few weeks later, Tess find out she is pregnant. Now these two a much figure out how the make this awk-weird situation work and on the way they fall in love.

Awk-weird by Avery Flynn is a sexy yet emotional read. This is a romance novel, I can keep re-reading over and over again. The cast of characters is diverse. I loved the humor that spilled on the pages. The bros were all for siding with the leading lady, which I found sweet.

Meet Tess, an awk-weird lady who stumbles facts as fast as one can blink. Her facts are random and embarrassingly funny. Like the ones that have to do with pregnancy. Tess kept building an intense cloud until the Thor-like-God, Cole, broke her uneasiness. He seems to realize she gets really nervous and blurts our facts. Overtime, her facts are entertaining and expected. Tess's friends are all in love with their own guys. This left Tess awkwardly alone and playing bar trivia with the hockey dudes. This then led Tess to her ultimate journey...

Now, meet Cole. He is the Thor-like-God that makes most women melt on spot. The one woman he wanted left him. Six-months and he's still feeling the sting. His ex is nothing like the bright, smart, and sexy girl next-door type. Tess is all that and more. He finds her interesting. Something is burning between them and that led Cole to his life changing goals. He never thought his life would end up like it would. Never thought he would need Tess like the air he breathed.
Overall, this book was hot, hilarious, and engaging. I loved the characters. Their quirks made it more than just a story.

So, you gotta love the way Avery Flynn writes a RomCom. She knows how to make you laugh and have a good time while you root for the underdog and hope for true love. Tess and Cole were absolutely wonderful together. Weirdness times two just made this story special.
Tess was a riot right from the beginning. Her attitude and quick wit just made her so enjoyable to read. She had a hell of a life and learned to take everything in stride. But, this time, there’s not much she could do with a hockey puck coming right at her. She’s either going to put the stick down and pass it or she’s going to score. Unfortunately, as she is trying to pass it, the roof comes down around her. Now, she has no choice but to suck it up and move on or, in this case, move in with someone she never thought she would see again. Cole was down in the dumps. His on-again, off-again relationship has been off for a long time. He has his whole life planned out and now it seems like Marti is throwing a wrench into all of it. He’s organized, predictable and knows just how he likes things. But, there was something about Tess that actually got him interested in something other than brooding. Now, his organized, predictable life is being thrown into a tailspin. First the new plays, then he finds out he’s going to be a daddy and now, Khan.
Having Tess around is no hardship but, he didn’t sign up for Khan. Now, together they need to figure out a way to get over their insecurities. They need to learn to rely on each other. They need to learn that the old ways aren’t always the best ways. Tess loves the word temporary. Cole loves the word organization. She doesn’t believe he will stay. He just wants her in his life … and Khan too.
Avery Flynn just knows how to tell a story. She knows when to throw in the drama and when to just let the characters go and be themselves. Maybe that’s what I love most about reading her stories. She makes her characters true-to-life. They are people that you could relate to and would love to be friends with. Everyday people with everyday problems. And, her supporting cast of characters are just as much fun as her main characters. All of them truly show what the word friendship means.
I loved Ack-Weird. I loved the premise of the story and how they both came to rely on the other. I loved that Tess was able to get Cole to loosen up. I loved that Cole took the word “temporary” out of Tess’s vocabulary. Fun, sassy, sexy and weird … you can’t ask for much more from a story and Avery Flynn knows how to deliver it all.

Avery Flynn has been a go to author of mine for years. Awk-Weird proved to be the perfect example of why. Tess and Cole are adorkably, unique. She's has an analytical mind that tends to overshadow her soft heart. He has all the right move to steal a girl's heart, breath and everything in between. Tess is the girl that guys tend to overlook until surprise, the one guy she never expected shakes up her world in ways that have lasting results. Flynn brings her sassy wit and feel good formula to a tempting duo of misfits. Heart mixed with humor. I was a goner at hello.
