Not having read other books by Avery Flynn before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading Awk - Weird. Needless to say, I was really impressed with the story and how well Flynn managed to develop the characters from beginning to end. The story was sweet and entertaining, a definite must read for sure.
At the beginning of the story we get to meet Tess Gardner, a flower shop owner who happens to love facts. She is attending one of her friend’s wedding rehearsal party when she overhears a group of hockey players playing a trivia game and answers the questions when she thinks that they are not looking. But she is noticed by one of the players and he invites her to play. Everyone has a good time and Tess immediately feels chemistry between her and Cole. They dance and soon things get carried away. It wouldn’t be until a month later that things would change their lives forever.
Tess has always felt that she doesn’t belong. After growing up being shuffled from relative to relative like an unwanted obligation, she started to see things as temporary and made her feel invisible. She has a quirky personality to which people weren’t as accepting of and her love for facts began. Her priority changes when she finds out that she is pregnant and feels the need to give the baby what she didn’t have growing up. But it’s her connection with Cole that make things harder for her and the more time they spend together the more she begins to fall for him. She is afraid of getting hurt and doesn’t know if Cole has any feeling for her at all.
Cole Phillips is good at what he does, hockey. He is the overachiever who happens to like structure and a routine. So when Tess shows up to tell him that she is pregnant things don’t go as he plans. His life is about to change forever and he doesn’t know how to react at first. He had a one-night-stand with Tess, yet his ex is all he can think about. What she is going to say once they get back together or so he thinks. Cole is hopeful that everything in his back goes back to normal, but the minute Tess moves in with her cat all hell breaks loose and he’ll have to decide if is worth giving their relationship a try or not.
I absolutely loved this book! It was quirky and funny. Tess has been through so much growing up so it’s understandable for her to have her guard up. I loved her personality and how caring she is. On the other hand, Cole might love his routine but he has the biggest heart. They have a lot in common and facts is one of them. They have definitely found their match and they are able to help each other overcome their pasts in order to move on. They challenge each other and it just proves how they are meant to be together. I loved the interactions that she has with her friends, they are her family and they made the book that much funnier. All in all, the story was great and the characters developed as well. The ending is so sweet and it’s definitely one not to be missed. I would highly recommend checking out this book and I cannot wait to read more from the author in the future. :)

I really thought this was a pretty good read--fairly fast paced with dialogue that ranged from quirky to funny to sweet. Sometimes idiocy popped up lol, but real and serious emotional issues were also addressed.
Cole and Tess were love challenged for sure. So what if the cart came before the horse, they needed the help, in whatever form it came, to figure out nothing is guaranteed, change is inevitable, and just maybe love makes life so much better. Chemistry and intense heat included.
The Ice Knights also got to play hockey, share some insight to the game, how long the season lasts, what players do pre/post games and more, described so well, it was very easy to stay involved.
I received an advance reader's copy thru Netgalley and am freely giving my honest thoughts and opinions

This was such an amazing book by Avery Flynn that I can't wait for her next book that she writes!! Every book she writes just gets better and better and this is no exception! Hands down this is the book you need to pick up for a pick me up. If you want hilarity and what ensues- then this is your book. Tess, to me is every woman. She's a little bit insecure and a little bit hell breathing dragon at times. Just read the book!!

This was my first book by Avery Flynn and she didn't disappoint me. She gave me an entertaining tale mixed with amusing characters that had me highly amused throughout.
I loved Tess and Cole together, they were the perfect match, even if they didn't want to admit it. The chemistry that sizzled between them was electric and beautiful to watch develop.
I loved Tess and her random facts, I learned quite a bit reading this. I so wanted to hug her with her fears of everything being temporary. Cole was perfect for her with his need for order and routine. With Tess and her kitten invading his space his world is going to be turned upside down for the better.
I am certainly looking forward to seeing what else Avery Flynn brings us in the future

This book is SO 👏 MUCH 👏 FUN!! 🙌 I enjoyed the story of Tess and Cole so immensely that I burned through the book. I loved both characters...Tess was very relatable and Cole is a fantastic book boyfriend (hello, hunky hockey player anyone?). When Tess is forced to move in with Cole temporarily while her apartment ceiling is repaired, the forced proximity is the perfect catalyst for their relationship. This story had me laughing, swooning, and my heart clenching as these two figure out if they can put aside their comfort zones and fears and make their relationship work.

What a funny, romantic and emotional story Avery Flynn created with Awk-Weird!
The story line was great and the characters were sensational! I couldn’t get enough of the quirkiness they both brought to the read. The word vomit facts were not only amusing but also quite educational! I laughed hard AND learned some stuff. Win/win!
I truly adored both Cole and Tess. They were nothing alike personality wise, but they fit together like peanut butter and jelly. You could gather just from their meet cute that they were destined for one another. Accidental pregnancy or not.
The whole “temporary” mentality that Tess was obsessed with absolutely broke my heart. She deserved so much more than she would allow! The blinding denial of her feelings and what she wanted made me wanna smack her upside the head mama style on more than one occasion during this book. It was clear as day how the MCs felt for one another but both had to screw it all up just to realize what they wanted/needed.
I was so happy with the way the book wrapped up. I cannot wait to get glimpses of these characters in the next Ice Knights book!

It's quite an interesting and fun read. I enjoyed this awkward and weird story a lot. Both the main characters are amazing and it's very well-written. As far as romcoms go this is the best one and a must-read for all romance lovers.
Tess is a little nerdy and a lot adorable. She thinks she has her life all figured out but soon she will realize how wrong that is. Because life has a way of surprising us. But she is always up for a challenge and it might be the best thing that has ever happened to her.
This book is the best feel-good kind of book that I've read in a while. It's hot and it's sweet. I enjoyed every moment of it and I think that anyone who loves to read will like it. In short, I highly recommend this.

This was my first Avery Flynn book, but it definitely won't be my last!! Awk-weird is such a sweet and heartwarming story. Once I started reading I couldn't stop and I have to say even though I loved Tess and Cole, Khan the cat has earned a special place in my heart, haha.
A story where two people meet, sleep together and the woman ends up pregnant could turn out really cheesy, but this one was a lot of fun. Tess grew up with her mother who ended up leaving her with relatives when something else came along. That wasn't always a pleasant experience either and she doesn't really feel like she belongs or is loved. Tess things even her closest friends are only temporary and treats them that way so she won't get hurt.
Cole is a hockey player who follows a routine, even down to what he eats every morning. He's stuck in his ways and has a hard time when things go differently. Even the woman he's with is on again off again and while it bothers him, he's pretty confident it will all go according to plan. Moving a lot as a child, he came to depend on routing to keep normal and it kind of stuck.
Awk-weird brings two totally different people together who end up being more similar than they think. When Tess ends up pregnant, both of their lives change and it's fun seeing them slowly get close. I loved that it felt like both of them really needed each other. Tess got Cole out of his routine at times without him feeling bad and Cole slowly starts breaking down Tess' emotional walls. There are many cute, sweet, heartwarming and even steamy moments between the two of them. More often than not, I had a smile on my face while reading Awk-weird.
I think near the end it took a bit too long before things started wrapping up. To me it felt like the will they, won't they moments dragged on just a bit too long. Of course, things don't always go easy, but this felt forced. Don't get me wrong, I loved the ending, I just think it should've gotten there just a little bit sooner.
Also, Tess starts giving random facts when she's nervous or uncomfortable and I loved the little bits of random information I learned while reading this book. It was Tess' way of coping, but it was really entertaining! It must've been fun looking up all of the facts.
If you're looking for a heartwarming romance that will make you laugh out loud, that also has a steamy side, definitely pick up Awk-weird. Khan the cat will be very happy if you do!

Yes! I've wanted Tess's story since I read Muffin Top and then Tomboy, and I'm so glad it's finally here.
Between factoid-spouting Tess and routine-driven Cole, these two quirky characters were quite the pair, and I loved them. Then you add Kahn to the mix, and it's even better.
I loved the way Tess and Cole met, and I enjoyed the way their relationship developed as well.
All in all, Awk-Weird was a fun, sweet read.
I can't wait for the next Ice Knights book.

This book was the perfect romcom that kept me smiling while enjoying this book. Avery Flynn delivered a book that well written with characters you fall in love with.
Tess didn’t have the greatest upbringing and has issues she is working through. She is dealing with abandonment issues and doesn’t trust easy. Cole moved around a lot as a child because of his father’s job. He likes stability. These two are so sweet and Cole has to work to get Tess to trust him and realize he isn’t going anywhere.
I really enjoyed Awe-Weird and all the characters. If your looking for a fast paced sweet romcom this is the book for you.

Avery Flynn nailed it with Awk-weird! I love stories in which the characters are a little different than the norm and Cole and Tess both brought something special to the story. I enjoyed watching both characters grow throughout the story and get the happiness they deserve. I connected with each character in a different way and truly enjoyed their journey to HEA! Awk-weird had just the right amount of sexy, laughter and emotions that will make you fall in love with this book!

I fell in love Avery Flynn after reading Parental Guidance which is the first book in the Ice Knights series. She writes such a good story, plus she can make me laugh hysterically. This book was no different. Tess is such an endearing character, and that opening scene is absolutely amazing. I just was so excited to see what would happen throughout this whole story. Also, we get introduced to Cole in the previous book and his shit show of a relationship history, which made me so curious to how that was going to play into things. Let's just say that both of these characters are flawed and wonderfully human. I am so excited to see where the rest of this series goes!
Thank you so much to Entangled, Wildfire Marketing Solutions, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Tess and Cole were the ultimate couple. Tess has her own shop but her past has left her with abandonment issues. Cole is a hockey player and is so patient with Tess my heart just melts. The two end up hooking up after a wedding. Things get awkward after Tess comes up pregnant. This is a sexy, funny, and heartwarming story that I recommend.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

She's a total geek, he's a total stud. Awk-weird was full of awkwardness and hilarity and a perfect romcom.
Tess and Cole were a perfect pair. Complete opposites, but they mesh together so well. It's hard with a surprise baby trope to find that I really enjoy the couple on their own and would like them together without the pregnancy -- and I did exactly that with Tess and Cole. This is definitely a story I will be coming back to!

3.5 stars. Awk-weird was a cute read! This is Tess and Cole's story. Tess is a quirky, awkward, trivia-buff who owns a flower shop and who meets Cole at her good friend's wedding. Cole is a pro hockey player and has recently broken up with his on again-off again girlfriend (again). The two meet and have a sexy one night stand, but neither think anything will come of it. Fate has other plans when Tessa finds out she is pregnant. When her apartment floods soon after, she moves in with Cole while it is being repaired and so they can get to know each other and become friends before their baby comes. Along the way, they find they have great chemistry and are really good together, so they begin to fall for each other. They both have some issues to overcome before they can make things work between them, but it all works out in the end and Tess and Cole get their HEA.
I liked Cole and Tess's characters. Tess, especially, was endearing, quirky and relatable. They were very unique and fun together. I did feel like there was a little too much back and forth between them. Both were frustrating at times and stubborn. I wanted them to see the truth about their feelings for each other sooner. There was a bit too much focus on their personal flaws, like Tess feeling like everything was temporary, due to her unstable childhood, and Cole's need for routine and structure. I felt those flaws were harped on throughout the book, instead of being resolved quicker. Cole is a creature of habit, possibly having some OCD tendencies. He fixates on his routine in a big way. He has an on again off again girlfriend that he had been with since childhood. He has always imagined he would eventually marry her. When he meets Tess, he is "off" with his ex, but he has no doubt they will get back together. Even when he and Tess have their hookup, he still thinks he will get back together with his ex, and through much of the events of the book, he still feels the same way. Eventually, he does realize that he is clinging to that routine and he didn't really love his ex anymore. His ex also does not pursue him or act interested in getting back together with him. So I wasn't extremely bothered by that ex drama, but I was bothered by the fact that he never really explained all of that to Tess. I wanted him to tell her that he no longer loved or wanted his ex, because he let her think otherwise and the ex is brought up very often. It bothered me that this plot point wasn't fully resolved. I felt it added a little too much angst. I felt very sorry for Tess. Also, the big conflict and the way it wrapped up was not my favorite. I didn't feel like Cole apologized for his part and I felt like Tess apologized too much, when not everything was her fault. I felt like she was made out to be the bad guy, when she was not, in my eyes. I did like the first 75% of the book better than the ending. The resolution was too short and the couple was not officially together until the very end. This all had me knocking the rating down from a 4 to a 3.5.
Still, most of the book was very enjoyable. I liked the slow burn, funny, sweet and easy feel of the book. The story was cute and I love a surprise pregnancy. I especially liked Tess's knowledge of fun facts and trivia. I was happy that Tess and Cole were able to work out their relationship, fall in love, get over their issues and pasts, and make a family with their baby.
Overall, Awk-weird was a good read. I found Tess and Cole's story sweet and fun, despite a few issues I had. This was my first read by Avery Flynn and I will try her again in the future.

Filled with steamy laugh out loud moments! AWK-WEIRD is book two in Avery Flynn's Ice Knights series and it's utterly delightful! Think a sexy pro hockey player and a nerdy florist who can't stop touting off trivia at the most awkward moments and add in an adorable kitten and you'll know why you have to grab this book.
Tess is such an adorable character. She has that spouting trivia thing going for her, but overall she's extremely smart and has a style all her own. She's easy to like, she's well developed and she's just really fun to get to know.
Cole is a fun character. He brings a smile to a reader's face easily, but he also had to be redeemed in our eyes because he kept one eye on the past he thought he was going to relive for a little too long for my liking.
Overall, it was lighthearted, funny and super sweet. I recommend it to anyone wanting a fast read filled with laughs and lots of heart. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series already!

What can I say? Ms. Flynn had me at one of my favorite tropes...accidental pregnancy. Why do I love it? Because with Ms. Flynn's pen in hand, I knew that it was going to be hilarious. She didn't disappoint with Tess and Cole. What's not to love about a night of wild sex with a Thor lookalike and then find out you are pregnant with his baby? I know, I know. It's a trope that is used too much by some authors, but Tess and Cole make it believable.
Tess is a nerd. Yes, a trivia spouting, flower shop owner, book-loving nerd. When she is nervous, the trivia spouting is her defense mechanism. She reminded me of Cliff from Cheers but not near as annoying. LOL! Cole, on the other hand, stress bakes before a game and loves his routine. Like obsessed with his routine. Its almost like he can't function without it. I found that completely endearing. Hockey players are extremely routine-oriented and lord love a duck, they are superstitious. So watching him with all of his weirdness (to some) was completely natural for me. I used to work for the Dallas Stars Hockey Club for years so I get it. Plus, when these two get into moving the Big Foot painting around, I was rolling with laughter. Not to mention, Tess explaining that there is a sub-genre of books written with Big Foot. Oh my...
What sets this book apart from the others that I have read in regards to the Hartigans and Ice Knights are Cole and Tess. Frankie and Lucy are my favorite couple from these two series but Cole and Tess apart from even Frankie and Lucy are the completely normal OCD, awkwardness not just towards their lives but towards each other. Neither one has ever had a stable, healthy relationship with anyone. Tess with her mother leaving her with relatives and the on/off romantic relationship that Cole has had with the coach's daughter. Man, was I glad that wrapped up. I grew very tired of reading about it and to be honest, I don't like that girl at all. Something about her grated on me. So I glad when Cole finally figured out his feelings for her and his growing feelings for Tess.
This book is hilarious but also surprisingly emotional. Tess and Cole have a lot to go through to get to a HEA. Both come from families that either didn't support them or were extremely distant in their love. Tess was still having to deal with a slumlord of an uncle in regards to her apartment and flower shop. Cole and his constant moving as a child don't help either. Hence, the routines for him. His teammates give me grief for him but they also love him, too. Watching Fallon and Zach kick ass is always a joy for me. Plus, there is a kitten named Kahn that is a hoot.
I can always count on Ms. Flynn to bring the heat but she also digs deep into her characters that bring the authentic that would seem far fetched in another author's head. You care about them, laugh with them, swoon and cry for them in the end. They are like a part of your family and you miss them when you close the book. Tess and Cole found a piece of my heart that I can never get back and I don't want to. Bravo, Ms. Flynn.

3,5 stars
I enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed the first, great series! It was fun , lighthearted with a great slow burn romance. Both characters were great!
They meet at a wedding rehearsal dinner, and she ends up pregnant that night. It felt super fast , but while I was reading the rest of the story I find myself loving it!
The ending was sweet and make me swoon!

4.5 Outrageous Hilarious Stars
After reading Avery’s Hartigan’s series and absolutely falling in love with the characters in that series, I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this new series. Now I haven’t read the first book in this series yet (I will be rectifying this real soon) but when I read the blurb to Awk-Weird I just knew I had to read this!
This book was without a doubt pure rom-com gold at its finest, and the title is absolutely perfect for this book! It’s full of hilarious awkward, weird moments that honestly have you laughing so much you’ll have tears streaming down your face.
The fact that this is Tess’s book, well this just made me fall in love with it that much more. I have been waiting for Tess’s book since meeting her in the first Hartigan book Butterface, so you can just imagine my excitement to finally see the quiet, awkward Tess get her HEA. She really is my favourite kind of heroine.
Cole, oh my goodness, now who doesn’t love a Thor - lookalike hockey hunk huh? Lol. Cole is a man of consistency and structure. Everything has to be just so, a certain order to everything in his life. Well that certainly gets thrown out of whack when Tess enters the picture!
They both have a lot of obstacles to face with a baby on the way and getting to see these two completely opposite people come together, it was just pure perfection!
I for one cannot wait to see what else Avery has in store for us with the rest of the Ice Knights series.

Over serval books we have met a group of friends (Gina, Lucy, Fallon, and Tess) and watched them support each other as three of them have embarked on romantic relationships that have a less than conventional starts.
Tess, just like her friends, is very much an everyday woman and her past/family have left her with more than a little baggage. I enjoyed seeing how she navigated her way in the aftermath of being “weddinged” with hockey star Cole.
He has his own issues, but struck me as an overall good guy.
It was fun to watch the secondary cast of Tess’s girls and Cole’s hockey buddies help nudge them along. This is a well written story full of humor, friendship, pushing boundaries, and figuring out how to have the happy ending that’s right for you.
While this story very much connects with previous books, it is also a stand alone. A reader doesn’t need to read the books for the other girls to appreciate Tess’s story (but, they are all awesome so I totally recommend it.) I am also curious to see if any of Cole’s hockey buddies find there way into a book.
