When I saw this title I knew I had to read it. It wasn’t exactly what I expected but still a worthy read. Principles of American law are explained with examples from the Harry Potter books. If you love Harry Potter and have more than a passing interest in the law I would recommend this book.
I did not read this book.
It was not what I was expecting and now I do not have any interest in the topic.
This was... interesting. It was basically exactly what I was expecting. Harry Potter meets American Legal process. It was interesting, and a beginners guide to law with a mix of magic.
i enjoyed going over the harry potter adventures through a law perspective. You could tell that the author took the time to research and care about the topic.
I found this to be a really interesting book. It is a basic level law book, using characters and such from the Harry Potter world. It makes it easier for people, like high school students, to learn things about the law. in both the "Muggle" world and in the Wizarding world. The author used different events that happened in the Harry Potter books and explained how it would relate to the law of each world. I found the book to be written well, and the ideas presented well. I really liked it. If you are a Harry Potter fan, I think you will like this!
Harry Potter fans will enjoy this book. This is a humorous way to look at some laws through Harry Potter. Well written.
This book made me want to reread all of the Harry Potter books. A fun way to learn law, which tends to be quite dry.
Not a must read but definitely a good way to spend a few hours.
This book is a high school level overview of a range of American legal principles, using Harry Potter examples for illustration. It is clearly written and accessible, and a easy introduction to some basic concepts.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great introduction to law through the lens of Harry Potter! Obviously one cannot fit three years of law school into one book, or go into the nuances of how law differs state-by-state, but the general principles are well-explained using examples from Harry Potter! As a lawyer and Harry Potter fan, I highly recommend this book!
ARC: Law Made Fun Through Harry Potter Adventures was a very fun and interesting book to read! I learned quite a bit I didn't know before. I recommend this book for law students and for those who love Harry Potter. I did enjoy this book and will be buying a copy for my Harry Potter living friends!
What a fun way to look at laws. If you are a Harry Potter fan you will enjoy this.
I'm thankful to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read it.
This book, Law Made Fun Through Harry Potter's Adventures, is very clever. I think that it will be enjoyed by fans of the series as it gives something new to think about and provides an opportunity to re-visit many episodes in the books.
The authors point out that the world of Harry Potter is governed by rules and laws. There are controls in the society as with the Ministry of Magic and the rules of Hogwarts. The authors encourage readers to think about the construct of this world and J. K. Rowling's cleverness.
The book then goes on to examine different aspects of law. I will just include the first from the book. This chapter examines the law as it applies to adoption, foster care and the treatment of children. This is looked at through what happens to Harry at the Durstleys and to Tom Riddle at an orphanage. The points of law are accurate from what I can see.
This book gives a fun way to learn about law and to enjoy those in Harry's world.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun and entertaining look at Law through the lens of Harry Potter. HP makes everything more fun!
3.5 stars
I can read anything Harry Potter. When given a chance to understand law through Harry Potter excerpts, I was all over it.
This book gives a glimpse into US law. It was still enlightening. I knew some of the stuff but some of it was new. Because of the short entries and Harry Potter, I was able to move through a somewhat boring subject for me. I like the way this book tries to teach us in a fun new way.
I received a free copy from NetGalley.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with this book in exchange for open and honest opinions.
This is a fun way to tackle learning law while expressing your undying love of Harry Potter. The main premise is using Harry Potter character's and plot points, this book gives you a thorough examination of the law and how it would pertain to said plot points and what the consequences are. I think at times this might be a little dry for the everyday reader but would be a killer gift to someone who is both an ardent fan and studying law. Even as a study aid for passing tests in law school, this might be a useful book.
Fun, informative read in a great context - lives up to its title
I enjoyed this book. I liked the way the author related parts of the Harry Potter stories to both wizardry and muggle law. I didn't recall the details of the Potter stories but the author summarizes the relevant part of the story well. The legal aspects were explained very clearly and it was a fun and informative read. The book lives up to its title.
This book is good for those whose curious with how many Harry Potter character do something illegal.
It offer us a new perspective from the Harry Potter series and open our eye about the illegal things in magical world.
It best to read this one case by one case so you wont be overwhelmed or bored.
Thank you netgalley for providing me the arc
It sometimes seems as if people are divided between those who grew up before Harry Potter and those who have grown up with Harry Potter. It is such a phenomenon that characters, situations and terms from the series are in our common parlance. Many times I have been watching a tv show or reading a book only to notice a reference to muggles or Voldemort for example bringing a smile to my face.
Law Made Fun Through Harry Potter's Adventures by Karen Morris and Bradley S. Carroll is a delightful way to study legal terms and concepts. It is a great study aid, by using familiar examples, the reader can more easily understand and retain the legal terms and concepts used.
I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it not only to students but also to those of us interested in the law. It can be useful for those us who enjoy mysteries but are sometimes curious about the differences between charges. You do not need to be from the "Harry Potter generation" to benefit from this book but I imagine at least a passing familiarity with the series will be necessary.
I have been a fan of Harry Potter since the first book was published. I found the title of this book interesting when I was offered a copy of the book to review from Netgalley and the Publisher.
This book is split into chapters, each describing an incident or fact from Harry Potter. For example, when Harry was left on the Dursley's doorstep as a baby. There is then a discussion as to how this incident compares to both Wizard/magic laws and also Muggle/human laws.
As a British reader, I found that this book uses American laws, which were described well, but were not always relevant to British laws. It was still easy to understand and engaging.
Some of the laws which are discussed are of an adult nature, so it is not a suitable book for younger children,in my opinion. It would appeal to a wide range of people who are fans of Harry Potter. It is a good book for having a browse, or dipping into.
Interesting enough book that highlights aspects of US law in an entertaining way. Not something you would read in one sitting, but a book that is nice to have on the shelf, if you are a Harry Potter fan. However, if you are not familiar with the world of Harry Potter and are just curious, this book is just going to confuse you.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.
