I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of the story.
I had ot read M. Mitchells work before - holy smokes!
This book wasn’t at all what I expected. It was even better!
This is a diferent take on kidnapping than we usually read. The charscters are vivid and draw tou in immediately.
Some violence but mostly, this is a psychological thriller that makes you want to sneak a peak at the ending to reassure you that despite everupne involved, there will be a happy ending. Do not give in to this impulse!
This is my first book by Caroline Mitchell but I am sure this will not be my last. What a thriller page turner. The Perfect Mother, If you like thriller's you will love this one. Roz is a young girl in Ireland that finds herself pregnant after a one night stand. Realizing that she is not capable of taking care of a child at this point in her life, and wanting her child to have a better life she decides to give her baby up for adoption. She goes to New York in hopes of the couple, a famous couple, will be the family her baby needs. However, upon arriving she begins to regret her decision. This book was great. I stayed up too late reading it.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
Review will be posted on blog (Reading Recluses) soon.
The Perfect Mother was a pretty interesting mystery book. It’s not a genre I read a whole ton of but The Perfect Mother was so good so I clearly should read more of it.
When I was reading this book I thought it was really predictable and a little cliched. I didn’t care because it was still super entertaining. But once I got a little past halfway, I realized I was so wrong. There were so many good twists. Sometimes plot twists can seem like they’re there just for the shock value but the twists in this book were both logical and surprising. It made the book so much more enjoyable and memorable. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for other works by Caroline Mitchell.
The writing in this book is what made it so effective. It kept me really invested in the fate of Roz. It had a perfect pacing to keep the suspense without compromising character development. The alternating perspectives between Roz, Sheridon (the future adoptive mother) and Dympna (Roz’s best friend).
The characters were all interesting although not super likeable. Roz annoyed me with her naivety, but honestly I know people who are just as naive as her so it was still believable. All the characters were really complex and there were a lot of morally grey characters. The complexity made it a far more interesting book as you don’t really know who to root for.
The setting of The Perfect Mother was also amazing. The difference of the atmosphere in Ireland and the freedom there versus the basement Roz stayed in in New York was vast and perfectly exhibited the difference in danger Roz was in.
Final Thoughts: 5 stars. The Perfect Mother is a gripping, engrossing mystery that will keep you invested until the very last page.
Absolutely loved this book! When it first started I did not see the plot coming, having had it on my kindle for ages I didn't read the blurb to check what it was about and what an amazing surprise!
The characters are really relate-able and you can connect to the story throughout.
"The Perfect Mother" by Caroline Mitchell is the perfect choice (no pun intended) for the fans of suspense thriller genre. If your mother recommended the book to you, she is the perfect mother recommending a perfect book which acknowledges her perfectness while actually talking about the perfection of a fictional character at the same time. If she didn't, you can be the perfect kid by recommending it to her, but only if she is into suspense thrillers.
It was a breezy read. The simple narration coupled with the exciting plot kept me hooked for the complete journey. The multiple point-of-views sure made it an interesting and wholesome read. I am definitely going to pick up more books from the author.
The protagonist, our so-called perfect mother, is not so perfect after all. She is way too gullible. That is the only unbelievable part of the plot. If you like your females leads strong, you might want to skip this one.

Thanks to the author and the publisher for the ARC.
Verdict: Recommended.
This was my first book by Caroline Mitchell, but it will not be my last. When I received it, I knew that it was a standalone novel, and I think that in parts it really shined. The beginning really sucked me in, and took me for a wild, crazy, at times unsettling, ride. The premise alone makes it one that feels like a must read. I would say that this is a slow burn for me. After such a beginning that grips you, that feels strange to say, but it was. I felt that after a while it began to pick up, the last part of the book was not as amazing as the beginning promised it would be. I will still say that I loved this book, and I cannot wait to read more from this author. I actually look forward to listening to this on audio as well. Already on a waiting list! Thank you to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This one had me hooked from the very beginning. Great amount of characters and suspense and I didn’t see the twist at the end coming. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was a page turner for sure. It sounded like the perfect idea for a young, pregnant girl who wanted her baby to have a privileged life! I felt like the main character Roz was very relatable. She maintained her innocence throughout the story. I was so sad that he was going to have to give away her baby. The ending was a little confusing but I was happy how things turned out. The story was intriguing for sure.
Roz is looking for a way out of her problem. She is pregnant. Not only that she can't let her beat friend know who the father is. That would destroy their friendship. Roz lives in Ireland. She lives hearing about the United States celebrities. She Hope's to have her child grow up not having to worry about finances.
Hearing of a website that has parents who want to adopt, she signs herself up.
She cannot even imagine what is in store for her. All she knows is that she wants the best mom for her baby.
A psychological thriller. Dark, and horrifying. You can't put it down till the very end. Then you want to pick it up and read it again!!
Get ready for a rollercoaster ride!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 STARS
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC. I really enjoyed it! The book kept me reading and I really was surprised at the end. Let's just say it is not what you think. Roz who lives in Ireland finds herself pregnant and is keeping the father a secret from her best friend. She decides to engage in a website, Miracle Moms, for couples looking for pregnant women to come live with them and be cared for and then give them their baby. Roz goes to NY and when she finds out who the couple is she is immediately enchanted. Unfortunately it goes downhill from there. Enjoyed the varying viewpoints from Roz, Sheridan (the potential mother) and her best friend Dympna. . WIthout giving away spoilers let's just say give it a chance and take the ride.
This book is told from the perspective of 3 women - Roz, Sheridan and Dympna. The story is well paced and definitely held my attention throughout. Quite a disturbing thriller, if slightly far fetched at times. It is a good illustration of how money often equates to power over the vulnerable.
My life had been turned on its head. I had to try, for the sake of the baby. It deserved the perfect mother - which certainly wasn't me.
Roz a young Irish Lass has found herself pregnant. She is hiding the baby's father identity has she knows it will destroy the relationship of her best friend. The prose starts somewhat slow has it gives background to Roz and her own upbringing. Her father abandoned her and her mother had her own issues. She wants something better for her own child. She wants the Perfect mother. Her best friend Dympna helps Roz with a solution. They find an on-line adoption agency that helps expectant mothers match up to families looking for a baby. A match is made and it is to good to be true. Or so you think.
Meet power couple Sheridan and Daniel Sinclair. Sheridan knows a baby will save her marriage and her husband's career. She can't risk another cluster ** but the rewards are to great and the conditions are right. She sees Roz and her baby has a means to an end. Or is just the end.
Roz and the Sinclair's meet up in secrecy in New York. Roz is far from everyone she knows but Dympna the ultimate meaning of friend is not so sure about the secrecy and leaves Roz a way to contact her if any trouble arises. Upon meeting each other, Roz is excited for her baby and the life she will have. The second thoughts starts when she is shown her room where she will remain for the birth of her baby. Now isolated and under the watchful eye of the Sheridan, Roz is looking for an alley. The anxiety goes up as Roz begins to loose all hope. Will she save her baby and herself.
Sheridan reveals herself to be psychotic and has surrounded herself with those under her control. Roz in finding the truth about the rich and famous. Anxiety, anxiety--I could not stop reading. People who you love to hate against those with a drive to survive! Not to mention surprise twists and turns.
A Special Thank you to Amazon Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review
When Roz discovers she pregnant, she knows giving up the baby is the best choice for the child. However once she gets there, she realizes things are not as they seem...another woman who was pregnant moved in with them and has not been seen since. As her due date approaches, she realizes the mistake she's made and has to figure out how to save herself and her baby! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review !
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book because it kept me interested but it did not blow me away. At the beginning of the book we had the perspective of Roz, who is pregnant and looking for a couple to adopt her baby and Sheridan, a wealthy and famous woman looking for a child. At first I could feel sympathy for both women but as time went by I lost that connection with Sheridan as she became almost unbelievably villianous. I never really felt a sense of urgency or worry while reading this. There was somehow just a sense that it would all work out. That was somewhat disappointing. The ending was predictable.
I was hooked from the start.
The dual perspective made from Roz, Sheridan, and Dympna made it easier to connect what was going on when the main character was confined to one spot. The story would have been very slow if we only knew what Roz knew.
This is a good quick read, something you can easily pick up and enjoy from start to finish.
The reveal at the end was good, did not expect the father's identity. Everything tied up nicely at the end.
I really enjoyed most of this book, but was a little disappointed with the ending. The book starts in Ireland with a girl who gets pregnant after a one night stand. She decides that she cannot care for this child and registers on a site for rich and famous people looking to adopt. She ends up going to New York to meet the potential adopting parents and disappears. Her friend back in Ireland, together with her father try to find her. A fast-paced read with a few twists and a happy ending.
Awesome book! Finally a thriller with a unique and unpredictable storyline. This one will stick with me for a long time. I know we aren’t very fair into the year but absolutely my favorite read this year.
I love a good thriller based in Ireland. It brings out my not so wonderful Irish accent (my family is so lucky!).
Roz is a young adult just starting out when she finds herself with an unplanned pregnancy. In attempt to escape her own rough upbringing, she decides to place the baby for adoption through a wealthy organization in the United States. It doesn't take long for Sheridan and Daniel to notice and happily move the expectant mother to their guest suite. However it turns out, she's not the first guest.
The book starts out super strong, but the ending lacks the same pace, and I'm still not quite sure if I'm pronouncing Dympna, the wonderful best friend's name correctly. As long as you suspend some belief in the process, this is a satisfying thriller.
I look forward to reading more of Caroline Mitchell's novels.
