I love all of Art Baltazar's stuff, fell in love with Gorilla Gorilla way back in my childhood. I was tickled to receive this new variation in Art's work, published to read! Gilbert is just as fun and enjoyable as I remember Gorilla Gorilla being.

'Gillbert the Little Merman #1' with story and art by Art Baltazar is a graphic novel for young readers about a group of fun creatures living under the sea.

One day, Gillbert was swimming along under the sea when he finds a note in a bottle. before he can look at the note, he is drawn in to another part of the ocean by a mermaid. Meanwhile, there is a possible invasion from outer space as sentient meteorites start heating the ocean. What will Gillbert do?

There is a lot of plot laid out here, and fortunately, it's an ongoing series. The art is classic Baltazar, meaning it's lots of fun. The story will hopefully tighten up over time.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Papercutz and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I had a great time reading Gillbert the Little Merman. It starts with an introduction to this world, and some of the characters inside it. Gillbert meets someone new and they take him on an impressive journey. He gets to see all kinds of breath taking things and explore many new places. Along the way a threat comes to Nauticus, but his new friends find a way to help them all out. I can see many readers really having a blast reading this story.

I love Art Baltazar's work. I instantly fell for Itty Bitty Hellboy and I have tried to follow his work as much as possible. Finding Gillbert the Little Merman is a bright and fun gift.
Meet Gillbert a little merman who finds a message in a bottle but unable to read the human language he seeks the hep of his parent the king and queen o the ocean. But before they can translate it, Gillbert sees a mergirl and follows her to explore portions of the sea he has never seen.
This is a bright and colorful discovery of the world under the sea as well as a look at the world above the planet. I love the cuteness, the happiness captured in each page. This is fun for kids and a moment to relax for adults. This would be a great book for children and adults to read together.
Baltazar still has it!

Gillbert #1 The Little Merman is about a creature named Gillbert who also happens to be the prince of the underwater city of Atlanticus. Gillbert finds a mysterious message in a bottle, which is the beginning of an otherworldly adventure involving other sea creatures as well as alien beings. The story is very fast-moving and will keep children interested with the non-stop action and adventure. The graphic novel/comic format will appeal to a variety of readers. The illustrations are vivid, colorful, and effectively add to the story, although at times they may be a bit too busy. There is a lot going on for a book that is so short, so young readers must pay attention or they will easily become lost.

I recommend this title for school and public libraries that aim to expand their selection of graphic novels for elementary students. In addition, this would be a great addition to home libraries of striving readers.

I received a free copy of this title from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

When I started reading Gilbert, I thought I was going to read a story about a little merman. However, I get came to realize that I was in a midst of a whirlwind of characters. Instead of just following a royal merman, I was now in the midst of aliens and unknown creatures for the depths of the ocean.

How do aliens and mysterious creatures all intertwine, you ask?

My answer... I am not really sure. I got pretty confused.

As I struggled to try to understand the connection between all these mythical creatures, I found myself just kind of sitting back and enjoying the story for what it was.

Gilbert is a children's graphic novel, and students will enjoy it. I don't believe the illogical connections will bother then they way in bothered me, and that is okay.

Students love graphic novels, and they love all things aliens mermaids, and the mythological unknown. Without a doubt then, they will enjoy reading Gilbert.

The greatest strength of this story are the cute and vibrant illustrations. The creatures are fun and engaging. Students will love seeing this wild aliens and under-the-sea creatures that are featured in this text.

Gilbert is a merman, because he lives under the sea and has gills. Early on, Gilbert befriends a mermaid, who has a humanoid head and torso with a fish tail. Her name is Anne Phibian.

Gillbert is the son of Nauticus and Niadora, the oval-shaped king and queen of the undersea kingdom of Alanticus. One day Gillbert finds a message in a bottle, but he’s unable to read it because it is written in surface-world.

Anne takes them to a lower level of the bottom of the sea, where they party in an abandoned submarine and Gillbert makes lots of new friends.

She takes them to a lower level still, where they find a space ship housing aliens who have been there a long time.

Meanwhile, Gillbert’s parents find a mysterious meteorite that isn’t really a meteorite, but still it is heating up the ocean. Could we have discovered the source of global warming?

There is also a swarm of what look like one-eyed, three-legged pieces of burning charcoal that are making their way towards earth with seemingly malevolent intent.

This all sounds a bit confusing but when you read, you’ll find all of these things are connected.

I feel with the introduction of so many characters, we are being lined up for a series of sequels. And that’s ok because...The book is cute, funny, and kid-friendly. And...... rather silly.
