Thank you so much for this ARC!
I was so looking forward to loving this title after reading great reviews and seeing this book on Instagram. Unfortunately, I was not able to get through this book. The plot turned out to be too far fetched to me.

Revenge might not always be sweet and sometimes it even comes back to bite you! Taylor and Angus have a volatile relationship and when they break up, she decides to get even. But ... when Angus turns over a new leaf, she takes him back. Bad idea!! From that point on things drastically change until Taylor finds herself in a life or death situation. How will it all end? Will Taylor survive? While implausible, this book was well written with characters you love to hate and others to root for. A quick read with a satisfying ending.
Well, that was interesting.
I felt so angry on the first half of the book, mainly because again, it was a story about a woman in an abusive relationship.
But further on, the pace changed and it had me gripping the book tighter than I’m meant to.
It was a very engaging and fast read.
The ending was a let down though, but I enjoyed it.
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
What a book!
Taylor and Angus have a volatile relationship. Angus likes his drugs and other women...Taylor wants the drugs gone and someday marriage.
When the relationship becomes abusive - Taylor has had enough and decides on revenge- - but has she met her match!?
She grabs "The Art of War" and makes her plans.
But it seems as if Angus is always a step ahead of her! How can she win when he seems to know every step she takes?
This is a rip roaring story of an abused girlfriend out for revenge!!!!
“I’d never had a thing for the Pierce Brosnans of the world; I was wary of their smoothness, their lacquered veneer, and the wholeness that I sensed lay inside them. Wholeness meant they didn’t need me. It was always the inwardly broken and unpredictable ones who won my heart, the poetry of their jagged edges catching on my imagination as I tried to walk on by.”*
Taylor’s breakup with her abusive boyfriend Angus hurts a ton more when she discovers that besides cheating on her, he’s uploaded a video to the internet that could destroy her reputation. Getting mad isn’t enough. She wants to get even by destroying his life. In the eighteen months of their relationship, she’s acquired all the information she needs, and she uses THE ART OF WAR as a guide. In doing so, however, she disrupts her own life in ways she never imagined possible.
THE SUNDAY GIRL provides the same kind of thrilling read as GONE GIRL. But unlike Gillian Flynn’s protagonist, Taylor is a likable character. Her close bonds with her boss, mother, and best friend nicely confirm her good character. Her pain is relatable, as is her reaction to Angus’s severe breaches of trust. Even when she unleashes her wrath on Angus, I couldn’t help but cheer. He’s a scoundrel, and she’s a good woman scorned. Not only is she good, she’s smart, but she’s at a disadvantage. Angus has money, status, and psychopathic tendencies. People in a relationship become privy to so much knowledge that can become weaponized when things go awry.
I stayed up late to finish this book because I couldn’t sleep without getting to the conclusion. In the conversation with the author at the end of the novel, she talks about the theme of the book. “We can never know if we make the right decision or not. We get one shot at this thing called life, and all we can do is the best we can do in the moment.”* Taylor does her best in a very bad situation, and I was riveted watching her story play out.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark, an imprint of Sourcebooks, for providing an Advance Reader Copy.

3.5 stars. This was a well written story but there were times when I struggled with it. The domestic abuse and her not realizing it for such a long time. And all the other stuff. There was just so much to wrap my mind around that I often was like what in the...? The revenge she tried to give was so petty at first. And she focused way too much on the cheating. She had way too much trust in this guy even after all the evidence that he was scum kept piling up in her lap. I did like the best friend and David. And I have to admit I got sucked into the story and that makes for a good book. I just kept wanting to scream at Taylor. And really isn't that why we read and watch movies? We can tell them turn around or leave! But what would we do in their position? Would we really be any better? We like to think so but maybe not. Recommend to those that like revenge and a gripping read.
Thank you Sourcebooks Landmark, Pip Drysdale, & Netgalley for physical & electronic copies of The Sunday Girl (U.S. & Canada publication date: May 5, 2020).
"The French have a phrase for what my life had become. I'd noted it in my purple notebook when it was still my French phrase book: a la debandade.
A chaotic mess." (p. 123)
Taylor Bishop has had enough of her boyfriend Agnus Hollingsworth's, betrayal, excuses, & abuse. After he crosses the line for the last time, Taylor decides to take matters into her own hands & intends to destroy him the way he destroyed her. Once one domino falls it doesn't take much for the rest to follow, & before she knows it, Taylor is caught up in a whirlwind of revenge that can't be taken back with an enemy it may seem impossible to escape from.
If you're a fan of psychological thrillers that keep you needing to know what's going to happen next, I recommend this book. While there were a couple predictable moments & I initially was unsure of how I felt about Taylor, I overall enjoyed the writing style, story, and characters.
Solid thriller. Quick read with a protagonist who you want to shake at the beginning and then ends up being tougher than you gave her credit for. Definitely an overdone plot but the writing just grabs you until you’ve finished the book in one sitting.
The Sunday Girl is Pip Drysdales debut novel! I'm giving it ALL the stars! Completely hooked from page 1!
Two words - sex tape. This sets the stage for this truly satisfying story of revenge, deception and lies.
Taylor Bishop has been wronged by her boyfriend Angus. They've broken up, he's played her like a fiddle and she's out for revenge! Consulting The Art Of War, Taylor makes a plan. As the story unravels more lies are revealed, venom is spewed and truths start to come to light.
Huge thank you to Sourcebooks Landmark and Netgalley for my review copy!
Interesting. Reminded me in parts of Gone Girl. Has all the elements of a great thriller, and a commentary on the power of female sexuality.
Decent storyline, very well written. I just wish it had more substance.Taylors revenge on her ex is something he deserves. You will truly want her to succeed!
Imagine Bridget Jones, but coming out of an abusive, twisted relationship and hellbent on revenge after her ex uploads a sex tape of her on the internet. Sounds compelling? That’s exactly what this book is, and I promise you, you won’t put it down. You’ll find yourself rooting for Taylor Bishop, hoping she ratchets things up to destroy her ex Angus. Buckle up for an entertaining ride!
Wowee!!!
Taylor is out for revenge when her boyfriend of over a year (Angus) dumps her. And this for a former lover, Kim.
Of course, Taylor plans revenge for Angus - on his birthday. She continues to still be thinking of Angus until...
David Turner, a rich client she meets at work., beguiles her. Taylor throws caution to the wind and...
A great read! Fast and wonderful!!!
Many Thanks to SOURCEBOOKS - Landmark and NetGalley for a fun read!
This story follows a woman named Taylor and her plan to destroy her ex boyfriend, Angus’ life after he decides to plaster their sex tape online, all the meanwhile vacationing with another woman on their planned couples’ vacation instead.
The pros:
-I do enjoy revenge type stories. Especially when it’s the female retaliating on abusive cheating ex boyfriends.
-For the most part, I loved Taylor. I love the strong female type and I found her to be relatable for the most part. Character connection is a huge component necessary for me to enjoy a story. The author did an excellent job with this.
-Pip Drysdale is an excellent writer. I was even more impressed once I realized that this was her debut novel.
-The story flowed easily and quickly, I didn’t find any boring parts throughout it. I like how she incorporated different quotes at the start of each chapter from Master Sun, it helped to prepare the reader for exactly what they were about to be in for. I found it quite entertaining.
The cons:
-If you’re reading this for the twists, sadly you won’t get that. I still enjoyed this nonetheless.
I’m so excited to read more from this author in the future. I recommend this one to fans of domestic type thrillers, and to ones looking for a fairly quick read.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, am I right? The Sunday Girl by Pip Drysdale is just that.
Taylor Bishop has a decent life. She has a stable job, a loyal friend, but her boyfriend Angus just broke up with her, right before their ski trip. To make matters worse, he takes his ex, and puts Taylor’s sex tape on the internet for the world to see. He wants to ruin her, but she picks up Art of War and learns how to plot her revenge before he can destroy her.
Literally every time she planned something for revenge, I kept singing, “He had it coming, he only himself to blame”! (Thanks Chicago) But seriously, this is how you make an unlikeable character. He is a master manipulator and clearly is just a trash human.
This was such a fast read for me. I kept turning page after page trying to figure out how long this game of cat and mouse would go on. It was so fast paced that the ending just kind of left me hanging as it just kind of died down. But overall, a nice fast paced read!
TW/CW: sexual abuse, drug use, toxic relationships, psychological abuse, revenge porn
The Sunday Girl comes out May 19th! Make sure you write that down. You won’t want to miss it. Thank you Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Sunday girl by Pip Drysdale.
Taylor Bishop is hurt, angry, and wants to destroy Angus Hollingsworth in the way he destroyed her: ‘Insidiously. Irreparably. Like a puzzle he’d slowly dissembled, stolen a couple of pieces from, and then discarded, knowing that nobody would ever be able to put it back together ever again.’
This was a good read with some good characters. I liked the story. 4*.
Taylor is frustrated and seething from being dumped by her boyfriend and then having their naughty threesome posted online. Her solution to moving on is simple- Don't move on....Get Revenge on public enemy #1 Angus. As Taylor plots her revenge, guided by the Art of War, we realize a blurring in the lines between right and wrong. Pip has really pushed the envelope in terms of "how far is too far" and brought to light some dark issues of drug use and physical and emotional abuse. This is "Fifty Shades of Grey" gone wrong with a dash of "A Simple Favor".
This domestic thriller takes us through the tumultuous relationship between Taylor and Angus, a lying, cheat and druggie. On their most recent breakup, Taylor discovered that Angus posted intimate, personal videos of her online, and is cheating with his ex. Last straw? Nope, Taylor took him back, and the plot thickens with their devious schemes to destroy each other.
This book was so good and intense, an unputdownable page-turner. A game of cat and mouse to see who could outsmart and stay one step ahead.
I like the realness of Taylor’s character. Of course it’s easy to tell someone to walk away from a bad and toxic relationship, but it’s not always so easy especially when you feel he’s the one and you’re addicted to him.
Definitely recommend!
⭐️: 4/5
The Sunday Girl by Pip Drysdale was an attention-grabbing, thrilling, page-turner from the start. I was captivated all the way to the end of the book.
The plot featuring a betrayal of an ex and a scheme to achieve revenge was an intense cat and mouse game of who can outsmart who and cause the most damage in the end.
The main character, Taylor was clever, but also a little naive. She was interesting to get to know as she navigated her toxic relationship with Angus. At many points in the book, I felt her fear and was afraid for her safety (even though this is obviously fictional). It's hard to imagine being in her situation, but it was enlightening as to what toxic relationships and domestic violence can look like.
Overall, this book was a suspenseful and engaging read that I really enjoyed. Would definitely recommend to those who love suspense and thrillers.
Well, alright, so The Sunday Girl starts out one way, and then......I'll just leave it at that. I was drawn in immediately and couldn't wait to find out what was about to happen. Only then did things get even more interesting. Of course, there were plenty of things that I didn't expect - good. And some things I hated - bad, but also good? I think I could very easily have downed an entire bottle of wine while reading this and yet been sober the whole time. It's THAT good.
I will warn you, there is definite triggering going on through a lot of the book. And while most of it centers around sexual deviancy, there is a bit of gas lighting that goes on as well. It was deeply triggering for me, but I was able to make it through. The book to me is worth the read. Not everyone may feel this way.
Despite that, me and my bottle of wine loved it!
The Sunday Girl publishes 5.5.2020.
